Have you ever been denied vidya as a child, /v/?
>>
eh once cashier asked id when buying hl2. but i went to another cashier who didn't ask
>>
>>
>>736294825
Not much. But I do once remember a incident where I was a supermarket and they were selling a copy of Sonic Adventure DX for the PC. I wanted to buy it, but my mom thought it looked very childish and declined. I'm pretty sure I was like 6 at the time.

Honestly, PROBABLY for the best.
>>
>>736294825
My mom let me buy GTA 5 on release day when I was 13 :D
>>
>>736294825
One time me and my dad were at toys r us and buying manhunt or gta vice city (can’t remember which) and he tried to tell my dad “umm this game has lots of violence and crime and stuff like that I don’t think it’s appropriate for kids” and my dad just said “yeah whatever we know” and we went home. I was maybe five years old.
>>

>>
why are moralfags so upset by boys seeing boobs or blood
>>
>>736294825
I never had that issue, but I remember getting my first Marilyn Manson album in like 95, and the clerk was like "THEY BE SATANIC OH LAWDY LAWD THEY'S NAMED AFTAH DA SERIAL KILLAZ MY STARS!"
My mom still bought it for me, though.
>>
>>736294825
my mom never cared. games in a brick and mortar store are hardly ever sexual and we're american, so violence good, sex bad. i was already an adult when gta5 came out though, where does the time go.
>>
When I was 16 I wanted to get Persona Q because I was a fledgling SMT fan who started with P3P and just finished Golden. The Gamestop guy wouldn't sell it to me though because I was too young.
It ended up working out though, because I managed to find somebody selling the special edition on eBay for $40.
>>
>>736294825
Mom was convinced by the cash register drone that Mass Effect 2 was a sex simulator so I had to buy it off an older sibling's friend instead.
>>
i had the opposite experience
>be me at 6
>playing with a little girl across the street
>go in her basement see her dad playing PS1
>hallway before Psycho Mantis
>stare in fucking awe at the scenes and fight and start of the wolf section, forgetting the girl even exists
>go home, drop to my knees MOM I NEED YOU TO BUY ME THIS GAME RIGHT NOW PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
>go to Toys R Us
>moms looking at some endcap a couple aisles over while I'm in the game section
>employee comes up "can i help you with something little man?"
>point at the MGS1 i can't reach
>woah there i'm not sure that ones a good idea for you
>yeah? well my mom is going to buy it for me so you might as well just get it down
i was such a smug piece of shit to that employee cuck when my mom came over and bought the game for me
>>
Lol No. I was allowed to play pretty much any game I wanted. GTAIII and a PS2 for Christmas was legit.
>>
>>736294825
I don't believe so. My parents kind of didn't care. My dad was distant and worked a lot, my mom was very permissive (though we were generally decent kids). If we could AFFORD it, then we could get any game we wanted. I was playing M rated games as a 10-12 year old, but I myself was actually not a huge fan of gore. I didn't like Mortal Kombat 4 because of the fatalities, so my parents didn't have to prevent me from playing it. Also, my brother is 5 years older than me, so he was already getting to the age where he was able to play those games.

your mother cucked you and stunted your development if she wouldn't buy you cool games or let you watch certain movies or porn
>>

>>
>>736294825
All the time. My mother hated the idea of me having any kind of fun, after school was farm chores she didn't want to do despite choosing to buy a farm and a bunch of animals for it, weekends were literal 9-5s where I'd be kicked out of the house to go clear fields "stick picking" she called it. The only reason I got to game at all were the very rare moments of weakness she had, other family members buying me games and the cd burning ring we had at school. Gaining the independence to use my leisure time and actually having leisure time however the fuck I wanted was a pretty heady experience.

Similar thing happened to me. I remember I was at Toys R Us with my dad and we were going to get Dead Rising 2 on the 360 for my birthday. The old lady unlocking the glass case turned to my dad and said something like "You know this is an Adult game, right?". My dad said "Yeah, it's for me". So weird

I have a Doom 3 related post myself in that my dad rented it for me when I was like 7, like he just brought it home and told me about Doom being a cool older game. I needed the cheat codes to even stand a chance at playing it but I ended up getting heavily into classic Doom wads on PC by the time I was barely 10 because of it. Dads are cool.

Playing it that night after getting home from the mall was a kino gaming experience. I remember catching up with my mom at the mall after buying it and she was just like that's nice anon.
I remember when I'd play it I'd always close the door to the playroom. I thought the gore and demonic shit would have made my parents flip out

I never tried to buy anything before I was old enough. Any games or movies that I was too young for, my parents would either watch over my shoulder or play it themselves for a bit first. I was reading shit like Flowers in the Attic when I was 9 though, so they never said no to anything anyway.
Dad did tell me off once when I was killing marines for no reason in Halo:CE though.

At Gamestop once, many years ago when they still sold PS2 games, I saw a kid with his mom go up to the register to buy Black. His mom asked the cashier if you killed people in it, and he said yes, then the mom turned to the kid and went "You told me it was aliens!" and she dragged him out without buying it. Good try, kid.

My dad was fanatical about blocking me from any media where a woman had any role beyond being silently in the background as a prop. I was relatively on the smaller side so I couldn’t really get M rated games from GameStop without getting stopped, so I had to use him as a proxy to get a few games. Halo 2, Legacy of Kane, no problem. I remember trying to get Dead or Alive 4 and he started shit talking me in public, much to the obvious discomfort of the partially obese GameStop worker.

A 12 year old should not play GTA. He was happy to maintain the status quo. A dick but the action was justified.

Nah. I still remember my dad looking at the back cover of Fallout 2, shrugging, and buying it for me anyway despite the mention of pimping out your wife. I think I just grew up alongside games as they became more realistic and adult oriented, like I was 14 when GTA III released, so I never had to deal with the Jack Thompson scare (there are /v/irgins posting rn who don't even know who or what this is, fuuuckkk)

Furfaggots were unfortunately around before that

Went to Walmart to get the GTA xbox collection and Manhunt, Walmart worker started telling my dad (unprompted)!all about Manhunt and why nobody should be buying it for their kid. Dad made me put it back, but the worker didn’t say a single thing about GTA so I got that at least. I wanted to argue how stupid the logic was but that would involve detailing what was in GTA and the result would be me getting no games so I stayed quiet. idr how old I was but in my teens at this point so I was more pissed with my dad not respecting me than I was with the walmart employee.

Couple years later, same Walmart, I was 16 so I could drive myself there but not old enough to buy Dead Rising so I asked a random guy in electronics if he’d get it for me if I gave him the cash and then meet me outside and he did; cool guy.

I remember when Game Crazy was shutting down, the fat dude working the register let me have a Diamond and Pearl pokedex guide book for free after it wouldn't ring up correctly lol. My dad also went there a few days later and bought a bunch of PS2 and PS3 games for dirt cheap.

I tried to get my mom to buy me Disgaea 1 when it came out, but because there was a big-booba demon on the cover she refused. I had to show her the gameplay on Youtube before she agreed, and then she watched me play for an hour before she either got bored or decided it was harmless enough.

Little did she realize how Etna would ruin my taste in women forever. I can't believe that was 23 years ago.

Reminder selling PEGI 18 rated games to a minor is criminally comparable to selling tobacco or alcohol.

My parents were reasonably lax about age ratings, they decided I was a sensible kid and they let me play games from the next bracket up a few years early. I remember I was allowed to play 15+ games from at least around 12 years old (which being in Bongland meant quite a few games that are rated Mature in the US, at the time vidya age ratings were done by the same body as films and they were surprisingly lenient - the first Mass Effect was rated 12 for example). They were fairly strict with 18+ games however, I wasn't allowed any of those until I think I was most of the way to my 17th birthday.

I think they were right to handle it how they did, those age ratings do exist for a reason and seeing all those kids being given shit like GTA V when they're ten years old developing into retarded degenerate wrecks has only reinforced that opinion. In the unlikely event that I ever have children of my own I'm going to play it the same way.

We don't have BEGI for a PEGI in the USA, and there's no laws regarding MPAA or ESRB ratings, nor a requirement to have them, communist.

I tried to rent RE3 at Blockbuster when my grandma took me and the guy behind the counter spent 10 minutes telling her about all the content ratings and how harmful it was to children. He was an old guy. I just went back a few days later with my mom and rented it when he wasn't working
