I like morrowind but it has no writing
every character is an info board

Planescape's plot feels more like a philosophical journey of self discovery while the story of Morrowind puts emphasis on lore and politics, different flavors of writing. I prefer PST though. Havent played disco Elysium.

E33 fags have to be the most pretentious fags ever.
The story for this game isn't even good. The first 2 acts are a generic save the world plotline, while the final act is a failed allegory for escapism.
The escapism is bad message doesn't work because lumiere is basically a real dimension with real thinking people. At best you could argue the game keeps it ambiguous, but clearly it implies that the people of lumiere are real.
Not to mention that using the paintings is objectively beneficial due to time dilation. You can use them to effectively extend your life.
Either way, lumiere doesn't work as an escapism allegory and has no grounding in reality.
The ending is also a bit of an artificial dichotomy created for the sake of melodrama.
The gameplay of the game is also highly derivative
All in all, you fags are retards impressed by shallow aesthetics
>>
In terms of writing Disco Elysium easily takes the win. It's absolutely the most witty and entertaining of the three. Morrowind has the best plot and world building. Planescape has the best call to action and most interesting setup. You could say Disco Elysium's opening is an homage to PST.

Depends on what you mean by "writing".
Overall story, or general prose?

Because I think my favourite prose might be Sunless Sea / Cultist Simulator / Book of Hours.

Disco Elysium has a pretty good style as well.

Story-wise, I don't know, don't really care about story that much in video games. Probably Expedition 33 overall.
>>
>>736297748
Disco elysium is too busy fellating itself to say anything meaningful
Planescape impliments the forgotten realm setting into a very compelling journey of self-discovery on top of having very well written companions
Morrowind exists for elder scroll lore nerds to cum all over themselves, despite that very good world buildings awful characters

Out of these 3?
DE, easily. Genuinely very well written, enjoyable and can combine humour and gravity very well. It also manages to both touch on profound social and philosophical issues as well as relatable human drama.

Planescape has some genuinely great ideas in its story, but outside of crucial scenes most of the writing isn't that good really, just okay. Also, while D&D fags may eat me alive for this, I think in many places it unironically gets strongly dragged down by the Planescape setting which has lots of shitty or tacky worldbuilding and often tries to be weird just for sake of being weird.

Morrowind has amazing lore and setting. The main quest concept is cool as well and strongly intertwined with those. But the actual writing (i.e. dialogue and descriptions, if if it had those), as well as quests fucking suck

Planet Escape Tournament, where not one but two women choose to throw their lives away for you because they love you, even if you haven't spoken to either of them since you recruited them. Where someone tries to convince you you're on a pointless, one way suicide mission and your only response amounts to"look I just have to okay???" instead of having literally any choice in explaining yourself. Where you get a bonus for sucking up to a character but all the suck up choices are just "you, beautiful <name>" so you know which one to push every time. Where people praise it for its devillish evil options but most of them still amount to being a prick for no good reason. Where everyone recommends INT/WIS/CHA Mage because those stats determine how much story content you're getting, so if you play Thief or Warrior you're literally getting less of what the game is about.

I like the game fine but people get irrationally attached to defending it because it was baby's first wordy RPG that took itself seriously.

This does not refute anything that Anon said. Lots of words does not automatically make the writing good, regardless how rare and common this approach is and "not knowing when to shut up" applies to many places in Planescape as well.

Like, I enjoyed the game and I think there are some genuine strokes of genius within it, but I absolutely agree with the guy you've replied to that a huge part of Planescape's reputation comes from the fact that it came back in a time when wordy games touching on more philosophical topics and exploring them somewhat deeply were fucking rare. But lots of other titles with genuinely great or deep writing came out since then and Planescape really isn't some singular incomparable gem anymore like many claim it to be. I'm pretty sure lots of those people haven't even played the game in at least a decade. It's very far from being flawless, narratively as well

The popularity of Disco Elysium only shows how many people have not read a single book in their lives. It is the most pretentious and self-absorbed script in gaming. Most of the dialogue is quirk chungus written in flowery language and excruciatingly boring political drivel from a naively Marxist perspective. Midwits love it because it makes them feel smart.

Anyone claiming DE is "Marxist" or "Communist" is a dead give away that they are only spouting memes from their political echo chamber and did not actually play the game, or at least with understanding.
DE continuously shits on commies, ridicules them and points out time and time again how communism, despite having some high ideas, did not work in practice at all and mostly led to a shittonne of fanatical bloodshed. The literal final antagonist of the game is a hateful and spiteful commie murderer, completely brainwashed by his ideology.

The game makes fun of every single ideology it pictures, but allows you to support any of them nevertheless if you feel like it. That's one of the reocurring themes of the game: Revachol is a zombie state, failed by every single ideology or system, but life must somehow still go on within it, even if there's no ideal flawless solution and every ideology will become inevitably corrupted by human nature

Quest writing in normal CRPG
>need to investigate murder
>go to his house and question him
>hmm both the VA and writing make this guy seem suspicious
>question neighbors/friends
>get hints about how he operates
>path 1: break into his house when he is gone to find evidence
>path 2: get enough evidence for a formal arrest
>path 3: be retarded, get caught by murderer, fight him off and use direct evidence to arrest him
Disco Elysium writing
>need to investigate murder
>go to his house and question him
>hmmm this guy's VA and the text makes him sound sus-
>guy with voice changer: THIS MAN IS CLEARLY SUSPICIOUS
>other guy with voice changer: This man is clearly a homosexual negro engaged in debauched homosexual gay sex (can't use nono words but wants to be edgy)
>anon lols out loud (this is just like his ytps)
>4 dialogue options, 3 lead nowhere, 1 just straight up accuses him of being a murderer
>rng diceroll: SUCCESS
>murderer lets you in his house for some reason
>if you fail you get a quest to pick up 10 pieces of trash for +5 electrochemistry which auto succeeds the check to let you into his house
>find evidence of his murder
>murderer breaks down in tears as he is gay but also a turbo facist banging gay black men
>several dialogue rabbitholes that do nothing in game except pontificate on how this repressed homosexual man's love of BBC mirrors facist ideology

Just because it is mildly self-critical Marxism doesn't mean it isn't Marxist. You view the world from the lens of the Marxist writers who make no attempt to disguise their biases in any way. You'd have to be retarded not to infer this just by reading through the game. And the game is not even bad because it's political or Marxist, the writing is just incredibly immature and gets stale quickly as the same cringeworthy gags are repeated time and time again. I couldn't care less about playing a commie game if it was written competently, but Disco Elysium can't manage anything more than walls of text that say nothing intertwined with "I'M A RETARD AND SAD AND DRUNK!".
>>
>>736302647
>Anyone claiming DE is "Marxist" or "Communist" is a dead give away that they are only spouting memes from their political echo chamber
This is true only because of how bizarre the portrayal of communism in the game is, like a bunch of cultists tied up in a self-aware eschatological project that must inevitably fail, but the game actually portrays that as a good thing. The political aspect of DE is the worst thing about it.

PST for "damn, this is great!" writing moments, Morrowind for a fun world that is really sustainable and contained. Disco Elysium is pic unrelated, honestly. There are some interesting things like that dead radio tabletop game, the Pale when you actually see it as nostalgia cornering the world instead of the devs going "umm actually idk who that Mark Fisher guy is :)" and making up shit like "it's actually about you forgetting the world after you close the book", and also something else i forgot, but it has a solid dosage of Twitter poisoning and things that make Tumblr just treat it as a gay buddy cop drama which i can't really even go against.
My candidates are Arcanum due to how everything in the game makes a great amount of sense and has good depth for an open-world sandboxy RPG, as well as Case of the Golden Idol (+ the DLCs) as it'd be a great story in any medium but manages to excel as a puzzle game as the story twists and plotlines come to you directly through the puzzle solutions, which is a great feat.
>>
>>736303143

Anyone who says DE is a funny game legitimately has downs. The autofellatio the game does with its writing makes every joke fall flat because it winds up the joke for way too long so you easily guess the punchline. Also despite being a well written game it never tries to subvert the reader's expectations on where a joke will go somewhere you aren't expecting. I kept sitting there waiting for the jokes to rugpull me by going somewhere I wasn't expecting all the way until the game ended.

The autofellatio shit ruins a lot more and I've always held the opinion that the game seriously needed an editor to tardwrangle all the writers going on and on about nothing.

A joke needs to be witty, snappy, quick to the point and preferably have a twist to it. Disco Elysium doesn't do this because the writing is too busy sucking itself off to be snappy and quick, and despite the claims of the writing being good it lacks any subversion of expectation to catch the reader off guard.

The humor in Disco Elysium typically follows like this:
>joke winds up
>keeps winding up
>still winding up
>*okay all this windup means I'm overthinking the joke and it will go somewhere else to catch me off guard*
>punchline hits
>the punchline is exactly what you were expecting during the windup
>>
>>736304565
