Marathon goes way deeper than any other extraction shooter on the market. 28 weapons, 400 weapon mods, countless cores/implants for the runner shells, all interchangeable and all can synergize to create effects and builds. 7 runners shells with their own traits and passives. 7 vendors with an insane amount of upgrades that either directly affect your shells or the gear you can acquire. The upgrades they provide are game changing. No other extraction shooter has maps that have the attention to detail and interesting mechanics that push players like Outpost and Cryo Archive. Every other extraction shooter funnels players to the same static loot locations over and over again. Marathon makes this dynamic. The extraction locations are dynamic. All of this on top of deep lore that ties into some of the deepest lore the gaming world has ever seen from the origins trilogy. A bold strong visionary sci fi art direction. Incredible music. Vendor quests that add more lore. The vendors themselves have aura and are great to listen to, all their motivations makes sense and are all shady in their own way. Countless codex entries expounding upon the game.
