A lot of the time, critics can make good, objective points. The Mario Galaxy Movie is a huge step down from the first one, that's objectively true. It's scatterbrained, doesn't feature much character development and Yoshi is just there for brand recognition.
But, critics can fail to recognize what makes something good. Sometimes being familiar with a medium or concept before seeing it adapted into a new form is an essential part of the process, and there's a very fine line between being true to the source material, or recharacterizing it to fit the new context, and just slapping it in to check boxes. And if you're not personally invested, the former can feel a lot like the latter. The first movie was better at staying on the authenticity side of that line as opposed to the cynical pandering side, but the new movie wasn't that much worse at it.
There are a small number of arbitrary choices like including Yoshi, Fox McCloud and Pikmin, all just to say they did, that really detract from the cohesiveness of the plot. But those are far from the biggest problems with the movie.

Having been subjected to three Mario movies, the first one at least had Bob Hoskins as a lead to carry it. The last two are vapid and braindead slop. A nintendo fan being told that they are braindead consumers hasn't stopped them in the past; making fun of them certainly couldn't harm them now.

They don't ever fight any enemies from Galaxy, nothing else from the games really shows up except for some of the NPCs in an unrelated airport location and that's it. They would've been better off calling it the Mario Odyssey movie because that game has far more representation in this than Galaxy does. Some of the shit just felt fucking forced too man. As much as I like Star Fox and thought it was cool for him to be there and they did it well, at the same time it doesn't fit or really work at all, he is literally just in the movie to make you clap and point at the screen. Same thing with the Mario 2 enemies bit and Mr Game and Watch at the end there. These things not having relevance would be fine if they were just treated like other reference in the movie where it was just background shit but these are pivotal plot moments being used simply to reddit karma farm. It's somehow not the movie's biggest problem but it really bothered me for some reason.

I think you're wrongly assuming that Mario fans or atleast people that recognize Mario are a monolith. And to be fair this board is so shit I can see why someone would make that mistake. It's a hard 6/10 baby movie made for clipping on YT Shorts for the pretty lights and action, but because it's the SEQUEL with MARIO's name on it and the film still uses nostalgia bait that your 8 year old wouldn't appreciate, there's more pressure on it being good from older fans and critics alike. You should go to the movie theatre and watch the new Mario movie in imax 3D. Its simply sublime, Nintendo did a very good job and you will be captivated from start to finish.
