Final Fantasy X always is a comforting game for me, it's stuck with me ever since I first played it. The atmosphere is just great and the beautiful soundtrack definitely helped. It's the last Sakaguchi game, it's the last Uematsu game. Hell, it's the last Squaresoft Final Fantasy before the m*rger. It's really interesting seeing how they were trying to evolve the formula and the tech, and you can only imagine what the series would have looked like if Sakaguchi stayed at the helm.Thread theme - youtube.com/watch?v=RC1VmGXiEFw
Inspired by a trip to Okinawa and Guam. Are these two places nice?
>>736303460I'm glad you feel that way, It's also one of my favorite FF games because of the water and crystal aesthetic that really resonated with me. Final Fantasy began a different direction after this entry and I never liked it. 10 was my favorite next to 6, and both before a close second 7. If 10 is a summer game, 6 is a winter.

In 7th grade I didn't know much about JRPGs. But one day I went over a friend's house and he was playing this odd 3rd person game, just walking down some country road and talking to people, learning what they were up to, the history of the land. Comfy music was playing in the background, and every once in a while the screen would shatter and he'd fight monsters. I liked that the camera would position itself so you could see the mountains in the distance and some ancient ruins. He'd stop and this little shop to restock on supplies, it also had chill music.I'd never seen anything like it. Later than month I used my savings to buy a PS2 and FFX. Incidentally that same friend would later introduce me to Halo and Metal Gear Solid - also Pokemon when we were in 4th grade. I really miss that style of FF, w/e it is. I can't tell what's wrong with modern FF. Is it too anime, is the music forgettable orchestral stuff, is the story uncompelling, are the characters and worlds uninteresting, is it the move away from semi-fixed camera? I don't know, but everything after X just felt wrong.

>>736306595It became too serialized. The sense of adventure, the music, the design, it all became corporate spreadsheets trying to emulate and duplicate "a game about a fantasy world". It felt too formulaic and uninspired. those other games have things that make them interesting, but they don't grab me in the same way that 10, or the other previous titles did.
