What games have the best magic/wizards?
I'll always say that the best wizard power trip in the videogame industry is Star Wars Force Unleashed.>but it's not a wizard game! You're pretty much a space wizard and the game lets you powertrip hard through it. No other game comes close.
>>736303856DD1 & 2. no other game can compete/thread
>>736304151Shut the fuck up. Dragon's Dogma is dogshit and you know it. Stop perpetuating the cycle (pun fucking intended). Stop spreading your bullshit and getting new anons to download that crap.
>>736303856Dragon's Dogma primarily (Dark Arisen), especially with any cool mods you want to add. Second place is Elden Ring with the Convergence mod, which is a must. Totally feels like an actual completed game after that. There are probably more technical games that feel like actual "mathamagics" but those are too esoteric for me to explore on top of already dealing with plenty of that in college. Wizards are magic Mathematicians, Sorcerers are magic Scientists.
>>736304238NTA but its not crap. Its a tech demo. an Incomplete look into what could have been. Its a game like any other, and it functions in a way that is fun and memorable if you have even an inkling of imagination and desire for sword and sorcery. You're being too critical and suggesting no alternative.
>>736303856Morrowind has by far the best spellcraft, its a spellcasting game. lots of people quit after seeing the shitty melee combat but go down the magic path and its awesome
>>736304417what happened between Morrowind and Skyrim to turn magic into shitty status beams? Cripes the "magic" in Skyrim is just an animated Excel spreadsheet.
>>736303856World of Warcraft. You wield fire, frost and arcane and can manifest them in different forms to deal damage or crowd control. You can turn enemies into several different animals. You can go invisible and make others invisible. You can create mirror images of yourself. You can manipulate time. You can conjure infinite food and water. You can create portals to every planet or plane of reality you've been to. You can summon elemental minions. You can steal buffs from enemies and dispel debuffs. The only thing they can't do is not be stuck in a shit game.
noita is the quintessential wizard game
>>736304618Right? I played that game for a few seconds and I hated the point and click and resource management bullshit. It has a cool aesthetic and fascinating lore, but the gameplay is ancient primal MMO style. The closest equivalent is Legends of Amalur, which I think is the closest you'll get to a single player WoW game. I really wish a better company bought Blizzard and made and updated new kind of game with the WoW IP and for fucks sake put fucking sex appeal back. Sword and sorcery require it.
>>736303856Might and magic 6, all wizurds
Its not real wizardry if you're just clicking a button and skipping gathering technical knowledge, applying formulas, and understanding physics as well as higher planes of what magic is. Not to mention the different concepts ranging from tabletop magic (fire, ice, water, etc) to more complex forms that integrate self conscious spirits and realities to expedite use or even become an innate source of magical force yourself.
>>736305030based
>>736304940noita feels like modular guns and not actually wizardry
>>736303856I think for a game to be in contention it needs to have custom spellmaking mechanics Among those that i've played, Noita probably has the best mix of wizardy vibes, esoteric studies and unrestrained mechanics

Oblivion is very underrated when it comes to magic. Pure destruction magic is not great, but it has such an amazing utility everywhere else. Water walking, feather, paralysis, motherfucking chameleon, frenzy/calm, summons, all the good stuff. My favorite moment was "assassinating" the guy in a remote tavern during Dark Brotherhood's quest line by casting frenzy on the nearby imperial guardsman.
I really want more hard light tech based magic in video games. The kind of magic that lets programs from TRON exist in real life and allows their light cycles and recognizers and light ribbons to work. The kind that lets the forerunners in HALO design hard light robots that can just make weapons out of nothing. It all has a very nice aesthetic that is a hard contrast to the natural feeling that other magic systems always use
Roguelikes are pretty goood for thisDC:SS has a fuck load of it and you can literally have every single spell in the game while also being a melee killing machineNetHack not so much but wizards are still the most powerful classPoschengband probably has the most variety since some of the races are fucking crazy like playing as a ring that possess people, etcToME 4: can make a class that has all the magic, paradox mage is fun as shit
>>736303856No contest
>>736304501>CripesI don't think I have ever in my entire 32 year life seen anyone type that word out on the internet. Congratulations anon. Where are you from?
>>736304501>the "magic" in Skyrim is just an animated Excel spreadsheethe says, while Morrowind combat is based solely on numbers and 0 skill whatsoever kek
>>736303856Dominions games by far have the coolest wizards. It is a shame so few people have the dedication to experience it properly.
