Woow you read and, click. Reaad and... click.
Might as well claim reading a pdf book and scrolling down is playing a videogame since you're interacting with the mouse.

If they weren't video games, why would Nintendo allow them to get released on their consoles?
Checkmate, retards
>>
Well there's also music, sound effects, voice acting and maybe even some mini-games or cutscenes. But no they are not games
>>

Nintendo have a proud history of "non-games" being allowed on their systems that dates all the way back through their history. In fact, the concept of "non-games" is so interlinked with Nintendo that the very term "non-game" was created by Iwata himself, where America preferred the term "software toy".
>>
>>736315518
exactly, it isn't called visual games. checkmate atheists

Why are they sold in Steam if they are not games!?
Steam wouldn't sell a banana, why would they sell books? They sell games.
>>
>>736315746
/vmg/ with the rest of the lowest common denominator slop
>>
>>736316171
steam also sells movies and image editing software
>>
>>736315816
>argue about X (nintendo consoles and VNs)
>brings up Y (snoy consoles and movies)
We got a smooth brain here

>>736315986
Nigger just accept that VNs are games, wether you like it or not. No amount of hoops or made up arbitrary rules is gonna change that
>the concept of "non-games" is so interlinked with Nintendo that the very term "non-game" was created by Iwata himself, where America preferred the term "software toy".
And was Iwata referring to VNs?
No?
Then end of the discussion
>>
>>736316583
a required element of a game is gameplay, which vns do not have.
>>
Old vn ironically used to be in consoles, but then they went back to pc.
You can find like snes or Playstation vn's.
>>
>>736316679
You can save, reload, go through text and make choices
There, that's the gameplay. People play VNs not for the gameplay, but for the story and the writing
>inb4 le read a book
What makes you think they don't already do that?
>>
>>736317002
I can save, reload and go through a movie in mpv/mpc.
Is windows media player a game?
>>
>>736317002
I can save and load a word document. I can make choices in a choose your own adventure novel. Does that make it a game?
>>
>>736317002
>and make choices

And usually visual novels have choices that actually matter unlike "games" like life is strange.

Were these labeled as video games in the first place? Do they have game over screens like VNs do? Were they sold physically as cartridges on specific gaming platforms like Nintendo Switch?
That's the difference between VNs and your retarded examples
I'm done arguing with disingenuous faggots
Pretty pointless too because you're changing nothing arguing here
>>
visual novels are basically IF
if you consider Zork a video game it follows that VNs are also video games
>>
>>736315436
>>736315654
Why do you fucking clowns have to always post the worst dogshit VNs like they are representative of the genre?
>>
>>736317168
Can you buy it in video game stores, play it on video game machines and talk about it in video game image boards? If so, sure.
>>
>>736315436
>Are visual novels even videogames?
Like FMVs, depends on how choices are made, is it a constant game of avoiding the bad ending like in Rise to Empress, then yes. If it's just click an option "cause", no.
>>
>>736318939

They are called "Adventure Games" they evolved over time to JRPGs with branching plots.
>>736315884
Knew /vg/ had a trash taste. Imagine enjoying western safe-edgy crap VNs.
>>736315986
"Non-Game" however refers to things like software where you aren't clearly playing a game or reading a story. This means edu-games and shit like that. Stop trying to mix Japanese terms up you don't understand.

>"Non-Game" however refers to things like software where you aren't clearly playing a game or reading a story.
Why include reading a story with that definition? It has nothing to do with being a game.
>>
>>736321193
>Adventure Game.
Now fuck off 2016 zoomer tourist.
>>
Its funny how people shit on playstation for movie games and simultaneously like vn and gacha slop
>>
>>736321824

>>
>no point-n-clicking items and dragging them around to solve a puzzle
>no typing "walk north" in a prompt until the AI says "what's walk?"
>>Adventure Game
>>
>>736321935
Adventure Game by Japanese Definition contain "Kinetic/Sound/Visual Novels" visual novel is a brand name much like those two for a certain types of Adventure Game. Adventure Game also includes games like Phoenix Wright and Layton. Its a multi-faceted genre but it started out by "Text Adventure Games" (Zork as an example) = Adventure Games. Does that help you understand it now?
>>
>>736322253
no, visual novels dont have gameplay
>>
>>736323037
Neither do Telltale games, yet you cucks don't protest those.
