What's your excuse for not having a physical video game collection?

Disc rot

>>

I can have all the games i want in one single folder of my computer, why should i waste my space with "ok games"? On my shelf i only want my top 5.
>>
>>736322587
Because I have my digital games DRM free and backed up to several hard drives. Physicalfags are too retarded to not understand that physical is just worse digital. Physical still has DRM, physical REQUIRES working hardware to read, physical cannot be backed up unless you make it digital. KYS.
>>
I can just download what I want.

>Buy "physical" game

That's why.

i still have a merited aversion towards steam
>>
>>736322587
games are on the shelf but to make room i got a big fuck-off binder to get my 300-400 DVDs out of the way. all videotapes went straight into the trash bin, which is funny now that clueless hipsters are paying money for that garbage.

>he doesn't have every game he enjoys backed up on multiple long-term storage devices and mediums in multiple locations
I'm not dumb enough keep my only access to me collection in one place where a fire or other disaster can destroy it. I get liking to have a physical copy but if you're not an idiot then you've got your stuff backed up. Only reason you wouldn't is lack of funds or lack of knowledge.
>>
>>736323110
literally the only argument you faggots have, and it's not even true
>>
Digital and Physical both have their ups and downs. I think digital without DRM is probably the best medium, like what GOG gives you. I play mostly on consoles, so I prefer the physical copies when available.
>>736322587
I do. I recently bought Crow Country, Fatal Frame 2 remake, Dreadout collection, and the MvC 2 collection physical games.
>>
>>736323818
This, it's better to spend $200 into a good SSD than some random PS2 game

but your digital games will be wiped out in a few years tops once your hard drive fails or steam finally cucks out, kek

I do have a physical Blu-ray/4K collection, but for games it's not worth the hassle.

How long do you actually think longterm-oriented digital storage lasts? 3 years? Are you that dumb?
>>
>>736324070
I think things will probably get worse (they always do) but Gabe hasn't been meaningfully involved with running Valve for like 15 years. If they started making some off-the-wall retarded decisions, he'd come in and slap their shit, but steam is chugging along okay without him involved in the day-to-day. I expect it'll take another 15-20 years after Gabe's death for the bad actors to worm their way in, once all the remaining old guard are dead or retired.

Finite space?
Here's one neat trick I learned from my father—it's called hordetory. Simply put, it's space hoarding. Hear me out—it's very clever.

You can claim space in other people's homes by asking if you can keep your stuff there for a while and hoping they forget. If they don't, you can promise to pick up all your stuff next week—but here's the trick: just don't. Come up with an excuse to postpone it, and keep doing that week after week.

Sadly, my father didn't have many friends, so I had to keep most of his stuff in my place until he found some fool to store his wind chimes and boxes of dried fish. Rest in peace, Father—wherever you are.

Used to have a massive PS2 collection in college, but at a certain point it just takes up a lot of space, and there's no way you're playing all those games. It's a money drain. I like getting shit from gog or roms/isos and storing them on my media server now. Way more space effective, and way cheaper. Also physical copies of new games fucking suck 9/10 becuase they just download the game and don't even come with a manual in the case.
>>
>>736322587
I have all media I want backed up digitally and have 20 back ups for that back up.
>>
>>736322587
Because I buy more games than I have reasonable space to spend storing, plus I like the ease of swapping games out digitally. The one thing that was holding me back was living with a data cap and slower internet, but now I've got fiber with no cap, so I buy what I want when I want, and only have to worry about digital storage space.

Physical only fags literally don't understand how digital files work. They will buy shit like the Switch 2's packs (actually just a download link) and Limited Run Games scams and don't get that they don't own those files because they have DRM.

I as someone who literally only cares about playing games and could not care less about collecting i prefer emulation and modded consoles as it saves me having to dedicate free space in my room just to have a game collection.
>>
>>736327749
This the reason why "4k" rips are bit crushed to the point that even a DVD would look better. Third worlders check the resolution and nod it out, not like their 1 TB HDD of total storage space would allow for 50 gb lossless rips.
>>
>>736322587
everdrives, optical disc emulators, hdd loaders, mister
>>
>>736322587
physical media doesn't last forever. it degrades over time dependent on a number of factors. how long it takes varies a lot; well-designed stuff lasts hundreds of years but some cdroms from the 90s that aren't packaged well are already beginning to fail. on top of that, physical media can be lost, stolen, destroyed, etc.

digital media is as secure as you make it. if you buy games from gog, they're available as long as either GOG exists or you have your downloaded copies backed up somewhere. if you use steam, it gets a bit more complicated; if you want availability of offline backups, you either need a steam emulator or a game crack. online games with a centralized service are even more fucked, but that's a problem physical media has too, it's not limited to digital.

if you want to buy physical because you like physical then go for it, but this notion that it's inherently better is silly. i actually have a fairly large physical collection from when i was growing up and all it does these days is take up space; i'd be happy to be rid of it and replace it with a couple flash carts. but getting shit sold would be a project and it's not that big of a deal.

They don't sell physical pc games no more.
Plus, I've got like over 50 physical console games for all my consoles, my biggest collection might be for the ps2, and second probably switch 1/2.
