The distress call from Leela would have to take almost 100 years to reach Earth, and assuming there's no FTL or time travel in numarathon, reaching Tau Ceti with a ship would take another 200 years. The Marathon itself was born out of political tensions between Mars and the the UESC, but this new game apparently wants to pretend it was actually corporations that take interest in launching a generational colony ship that nobody would live to see a return on investment from.
