Too much attention is given to romance subquests and badly animated sex scenes in modern WRPGs. It feels artificial since romance always boils down to saying what the NPC wants to hear and coddling them at every step and in many cases you are rewarded before you even get to the halfway point, I'd much prefer if these games emphasized a sense of camaraderie instead.

Romance is too binary, you either think they're attactive and play through the quest to watch the sex scene or you awkwardly turn them down when they inevitably hit on you because you were nice to them once. It's not a compelling interaction.
