I never hear a single person talk about this game. Is it that forgettable?
>>

It's very polarizing, as you progress to the game and unlock Gambits, the game transforms from a real-time final fantasy and turns into a fine-tunable programmable npc party (including the character you're controlling if you wish). It's story takes place in Ivalice, which are many people's favorite final fantasy setting, but most people prefer other games that take place in that fictional world. 12 has some memorable moments, but they're all mostly memes due to the fact that the entire cast was theater people instead of traditional video game voice actors.
>>
I liked the Ivalice style of moogles. And I have fond memories of the hunt sidequests. The orange save crystals, and the scary green mimic one I guess, look the most like hard candy.

>12 has some memorable moments,
It really doesn't, that's why OP has this impression. Even the fanboys barely have anything to say about the game because it's mostly just based in some kind of autism like the guy above me.

This game was so dull that I got near the end, quit, came back, and only realised I was near the end when I got to the final boss
Clearly I was missing something because it didn't even feel like it was building up to the final dungeon when I quit (pic related, the glorious final town before the end)

The first time I played it I quit DURING the final boss. He wasn't hard but it was taking a long time so I just turned the game off because I couldn't be bothered kek. I later finished it and I missed nothing. I think I've finished it twice now but I couldn't tell you who the last boss was. Some thing.

>Dude what if we made literally half the cast be inconsequential to the story
>Dude what if we made multiple cutscenes where the main character has no idea what's going on and just stands in the background while people who matter speak
>Dude what if we made a character who's literally just a random girl off the street with no important qualities outside of an extremely large ass
>Dude what if we made a character with an interesting and nuanced backstory and then only let the player use him in one dungeon, at the end of which he dies
>Dude what if we made a villain who has zero emotional connection to the heroes and doesn't even meet them until the last ten minutes
>Dude what if we took an established setting with a million interesting species and then only included humans and bunny humans as playable characters
>Dude what if we gave the narrator a comical Apu accent
>Dude what if we made a complicated political plot and then ruined it by turning it into standard ancient god shenanigans halfway through
>Dude what if we made a plot where the heroes have almost no impact on what happens until 95% of the way through the story, and they spend their time tromping from one ancient temple to the next
>Dude what if we took everything 100% seriously and had zero levity outside of Balthier and Cid
>Dude what if we wrote all of the dialogue to sound like a Renaissance Fair
>Dude what if we we had no overworld and all travel was handled by a menu or floating teleport crystals
>Dude what if we made a battle system where you set everything up in advance so that you don't actually play the game
>Dude what if we made a level-up system where all of the characters become literally identical in function
>Dude what if we made summons useless except for opening doors
>Dude what if we put all of the interesting and unique content in sidequests
>Dude what if instead of having fun side games like the motorcycle chase and Triple Triad we had nothing
>>
>>736326224
it has beautiful graphics, especially for a PS2 game, but that's all it has... Well and Balthier, he's kind of a funny guy.
>>
>>736326224
>Is it that forgettable?
Forgettable is the word I'd use to describe XII. Forgettable and mediocre
>>

IM BASCH
bunny village
Gabranth fucking your party up
The Ondore
That ancient tomb
Penelo getting raped by lizards
The nuke
Actually at this point I'm not sure what I remember is FF12 and what is XB1 because they're actually similar.
>>
>>736327896
Funny enough, Balthier's JP voice actor also voiced Jack Sparrow in KH2. It's funny hearing his voice there.
>>
>>736327962
>IM BASCH
I only remember this because fanboys always used to post it for some reason.
>>
>>736326224
The story falls off a literal cliff and is unfinished, half the cast is pointless, gameplay may not be to your taste. I thought the gameplay was deceptively comfy but I think I would've hated it when it came out.

I also played The Zodiac Age version which did some major tweaks which after looking at the differences after beating it once, I would've been more pissed off at the original version.
>>
>>736326224
Millions have been filtered.
It's literally the best game in the series, and arguably the only great game.
>>
>>736326224
No, it's memorable. It's just a fucking awful game.
>>
>>736328139
>but I think I would've hated it when it came out.
most people did because they didn't have 2-4x speed boosts and you didn't get useful gambits until waaaaaaaaaaaaay later
it was an incredible slog compared to IZJS or TZA.
>>
>>736326224
I love it but there's 2 catches
>it was my first FF game
>I'm actually playing the game wrong, I completely ignore the gambit system altogether, I manually execute every command in every fight
I've finished it twice but I never got around fully exploring the post-game content
>>
12 has fun game mechanic but the story is just whatever
court drama is a big meh
>>
>>736326224
The FF games from 7-10 are largely linear adventures focused heavily on plot over gameplay, are fairly easy in regular gameplay trivial with simple grinding and absolutely mindnumbing to anyone who has spent even a little bit of time actually opening up their systems. FF12 is a return to more traditional final fantasy, and most of the audience that had been fostered by the playstation rejected it. Unfortunately, TZA went out of its way to 'fix' this by nerfing just about every encounter in the latter half of the game back to 'mindnumbing' levels of difficulty, a game where you spam attack and Flare on cooldown and win without even needing to mash X to do it.
>>
Beat this a few days ago. I like parts of it . The boss fights require far more out of the box thinking than most other
Rpgs but for the vast majority of the game you're really just walking through brown fields and grey corridors and autobattling complete chaff. I could see why someone would dislike it.
>>
Was there really any FF after X that people did not want to forget?
>>
>>736326224
Ivalice is a fantastic universe, the best after FFVII's setting (yeah fuck off I don't care)

It's just a let down of vast proportions, a result of development hell and suits taking over

I enjoyed it for what it was, but it was the Zodiac Age version.
>The final boss is Broly
>Cid is entertaining
>All gambits should have been unlocked from the start
>I would say this has better party building/build autism when compared to Xenoblade, but the core combat is better in Xenoblade due to lots of activatable skills in combat
>Some solid music like the streets of rabanastre
>Balthier and Fran are way more interesting than Vaan and Penello
>Only played 2 hours of FFX, but Tidus mogs Vaan so hard as a protagonist that it's not even funny. Tidus is a chad, chill all star athlete that women want to bang and kids want to grow up to be, then gets flung into the far future and has PTSD
>That special boss that prevents you from using magic is giga aids
>Yuri Lowenthal dies in 1 hour
Deserved a XII-2, but 13 got special treatment. We can't have nice things. Square milking erpers with 14 means we might never get another game that plays like 12.

I always do this when I replay 12. Maybe I'll use 3 basic gambits but I do everything else manually. It's more fun.

Arid and convincing setting (Ivalice)
Comfortable gameplay
Topical plot
Terrific music

I played Final Fantasy games when they came out because I owned the systems they were published for, and I became a huge fan of the series because it looks good and has the best soundtracks of all video games ever produced. Nobuo Uematsu only composed a few tracks for FF12, but it remains very comfortable music whose tone fits with beautiful settings and dialogue.
