The world is ready for a new entry in the best D&D series.
Here it is
I've officially hit 50 hours in BG2... And I still haven't left chapter 2. I don't even feel all that strong or that I've overlevelled or anything. It's just getting pulled aside to do quests for different characters lol... I do wish that I hadn't gotten myself so distracted. I kinda just wanted to see the story but then I ended up in decision paralysis trying to figure what team I wanted to use. I had an evil team, then a good team, and now I have a good team plus Drow bae... And maybe the wild mage girl if she turns out to be fun. Also, I don't know how much of a hot take it is but I think I like the EE companions more than I do the og ones... The og ones are mostly kinda dull. I like Aerie, the Barbarian, and the Paladin and that's pretty much it. Even the duller dlc characters at least use unique subclasses to make them stand out instead of being the billionth fighter multiclass
>>736327032>NWN for the fabled modern audienceNah I'm okay. Gay DnD needs to die of aids first.
>>736327032modern D&D is pretty gross, they would fuck it up 100%Whenever I see modern D&D stuff it reminds me of current retail WoW with all the goofy looking gay orcs and mentally ill trans stuff
>>736327032They did a 3rd entry already, its called Neverwinter.
>>736327032I'm still playing NWN modules and I finally figured out PrC, by which I mean the guy now does prepackaged modules with it. I'm currently replaying HOTU and I'm realizing I've forgotten all of it so it's pretty fun being able to play it fresh twice.

>>736327032>D&D RPG where you play as a single nigga instead of controlling a partyWhy the fuck has no one else done this?
I've always heard great things about the original Neverwinter Nights' persistent worlds but I feel like I missed out on it, are they all dead or are there still active ones in 2026?
>>736331567>Neverwinter Nights' persistent worldsUh,There have been multiple games named "Neverwinter Nights" over the years. The one from 1995 was a MMO, which had persistent worlds. The 2002 video game, from the OP, has the gimmick of allowing people to create scenarios and they allowing other people to play them.Yes, it's confusing, and I wish they'd stop naming video games "Neverwinter". But it's one of the more memorable D&D settings and so they keep putting out video games with that name assuming that nobody remembers any of the older ones.
>>736331567Have a look for yourselfhttps://nwn.beamdog.net/
>>736333469>1995It was 1991. It was also quite expensive because you had to get it through AOL which charged an hourly rate and then the game itself had its own hourly rate.
>>736331494It's nice when you just got a few followers and they automatically do some stuff.
>>736331494>>736336601Did they add the ability to make modules with controllable parties in Enhanced Edition? Something like NWN2 or BG?
Solasta is even following the NWN arc where the first game had a really good campaign creator toolkit so you got a lot of player modules, but Solasta 2 may not even get a campaign creator toolkit--or it'll require a higher degree of proficiency to use, which just like NWN2 means it won't get used except by guys who are already gamedevs or want to be gamedevs.
>>736327094Is this game good?
>>736337883Me and my friend loved it.It's no neverwinter nights, but it does have some mods and actual tools to make custom maps and campaigns.
>>736337847NWN2 had a pretty powerfull toolkit though, but it was a bit more fiddly and had some issues regarding some proprietary format or another that prevented people from creating certain types of custom assets for a good while. It has a ton of mods. Hell, it has icewind dale and bg1 ported to it.NWN1's custom content is the GOAT, but NWN2's not that bad either.
>>736337883Fuck no
>>736330597DDO is closer to a nwn3 than neverwinter.
>>736337847For multiplayer, what killed NWN2 (aside from bugginess to the point of being unfinished at launch) was that you had to download files for every server you wanted to join. No more browsing through the server list and trying random servers out; you had to find their website or their NWVault page and get the map files first. That was a significant barrier to entry for people just wanting to try out new servers. Quake had the option to download missing content from servers you joined in 1996. There's really no excuse for NWN2 not having that feature in 2006.I think it eventually got the feature years later, but by then it was too late and everyone had decided to stick with NWN. Making tile maps for indoor areas in NWN2 was pretty much the same as in NWN, but making outdoor areas required more time because the game used a heightmap system for them and you could spend a lot of time trying to get everything just right with the texture painting, walkmesh editing, etc.
>>736337883Depends on your tolerance and expectations for indie games. DLC campaigns are good, mods are good, base campaign is ok at best
We have seen the Neverwinter Nights, the next one should be called Neverwinter Morning
>>736327032Neverwinter Nights had the peak mixture of dark and edgy things and beautiful fantasy things. It really spoiled me and I have been disappointed with the style of most RPGs since. Magic was also very fun and you could use it creatively and build interesting characters. Such a comfy game. I even like the original campaign, I agree with basically every criticism of it I just don't give a fuck I still like it. NWN2 was hideous and nothing in it really had that same high fantasy feeling as NWN1. Also genuinely in the running for worst party in an RPG.
>>736327032I wish I understood how this game works.Every time I start and I see stats and classes and feats I always get lost. And when I try to make builds I feel would be good they always end up shit and I end up with useless characters who can't do anything and get wiped out.I feel like everyone who plays this either knows exactly what to level from playing dnd before or uses guides or something.Or maybe I'm just dumb.
>>736338063The enhanced edition recently put out a patch that made it a lot better for custom editor to load.
>>736340060You're just stupid, the shit is written out clear as day in game and if it doesn't make sense then you aren't thinking about what the fuck you are reading.
>>736329138>likes the pozzed EE charactersholy soi
>>736340926It also has a bear too
>>736327094they made a second one
>>736339043The hate really is far overblown. WD is fine. It's not exactly winning prizes for originality but it doesn't have to. SoU was worse.
>>736340060>>736340870I love NWN but that's not really fair. I had no clue what the fuck I was doing the first time I played either, if you have no background knowledge of 3.5 D&D it's a lot and even if you do there's weird shit the game does that makes things OP or different than pen and paper. You can easily make a crap character if you mix the wrong race, stats and multiclass caster melee or even just pure bard was pretty shit. Like I wouldn't expect someone just playing the game to know tumble is important or which feats are worth it or not. You don't just start making pale master bard rogue throwing dart characters that somehow steamroll through HotU your first time firing up the game. Cleric and Druid are good OP fairly idiot-proof classes but a lot of custom modules were only playtested with Fighter so Wizards can get annihilated and stuff too.
>>736327032I would love this if they got someone who wasn’t BioWare or Obsidian to do it
>>736331567They still exist and some have hundreds of players
>>736341730I played the game when I was a child, had never touched any DND material before, and played a sorcerer that operated like a kid playing pokemon - the only status I cared about was the enemies HP status going to zero. Guess what, I beat it anyways. It's an easy game, read what your options are, just try shit and you'll be fine.
