The levels are awful regardless of gameplay and bugs. Its part of the reason why the 06 project that is suppose to make the game better is still unfun. The level's layout are simply trash.

Aside from the hub section the game is pretty forgiving despite the poor level design and occasional bullshit. If the game was genuinely hard and shit I guarantee you wouldn't be having fun. That aside, it does have it's quirky charm. From the character designs, more "mature" story, and wonderful soundtrack by Zebrahead... Sonic 06 could be alot worse. Worth a play if you really aren't expecting much.

You're just bad at Sonic games. I played a bit of the recompiled version of 06 last month which had all of Sonic's story playable and breezed through it no problem. The only difference with the recompiled version from the original is that it runs at a stable framerate and load times are near instant.

They made some optimization with trees and shadows on PS3. It could literally just be that the leave polys are too high above ground to reach the draw distance lol, because PS3 has significantly shortened draw distance. You see it in Wave Ocean Mach Speed when the area with all the palm trees is entirely barren on PS3, because they lack shadows.

The optimization isn't nearly as bad as reported on PS3 in the end. The issue is if you play in 1080p on your console, the upscaler causes it to run slower than they tested. The game actually runs through larger portions at 60fps than Xbox 360 if you set your PS3 system settings to max out at 720p so it doesn't use Upscaler. Many PS3 games locked out the 1080p mode once you start those games. But for some reason Sega left it in, probably thinking it made no difference, but it does.

To add to some speculation: PS3 has Blu-Ray quality FMVs. I think they're 1080p? Not sure, but they're much larger movie files than the 360 version, so I think they decided to let it run in 1080p for the sake of that.
