What do we think of em?
>>
they raceswapped half the characters in system shock remake because having white people in a videogame is illegal nowadays apparently

They do some good work, but the quality of their releases depends a lot on the publisher. What they've done for Bethesda with Doom + Doom II, Heretic + Hexen, and the "enhanced" Quake games is pretty good, plus I got all of those for free just by having the old versions already. Meanwhile, look at their work for Atari or whoever the fuck owns Blood nowadays: "Fix the bugs in the remaster? Nah, but here's another remaster. Buy it again! Will you buy it again if we pretend that pre-existing mods are new official content?" I mean it's pretty obvious that the publisher is ultimately the boss. Nightdive just does the work, and when it's for Bethesda, it's good. I'm not even a big fan of Bethesda but at least they don't piss directly into my face.

Okay remasters, that do about what you'd expect to work on modern hardware. The Heretic remaster also lets you turn off the gameplay changes so you can play it as close to the original as possible, which is a nice compromise. Their choice of games to remaster sometimes feels random as hell. Like, Quake I can understand, System Shock as well, but Powerslave? That shit sounds as obscure as you'd expect it to be.

All the diversity hires die anyway and the last one standing is a white guy, so I'm not that upset about it.

I hate the treatment that Blood got, but that's WB being extremely greedy

Nightdive are faggots.
They find games with available source code and port them to modern platforms. There aren't a lot of those and this treatment often means that they'll now hoard the original source code forever, which could have been made public otherwise. Here they hoard PSX Hexen/Doom source code
https://www.doomworld.com/forum/topic/150751-doom-psx-and-hexen-psx-original-source-code-disk-from-1997/

Piko does the same. There was that whole thing about them fucking on Glover programmer
https://desuarchive.org/vr/thread/11511395/glover-1-2-piko-leak-source-codeassetsdocs

Microprose does the same. This revived company has nothing to do with the original company btw.

GOG have wet dreams about doing the same

This commercial low-effort regurgitation of older games is a terrible thing to happen for gaming.

it was still p good considering

They charge too much for some of their shit, but they're decent for keeping games available on modern storefronts.
Like $30 for their release of The Thing, Blood, or Outlaws is ridiculous.
