https://retroachievements.org/user/EmperorJonI originally thought this website would be really fun but I think I largely had a lot more fun playing retro games or just games in general just as they are without worrying about achievement crap. Most of the time whenever I see this site mentioned on /v/ or /vr/ anons mostly crap on the site calling it pointless cause some of the achievements are either grindy or force you to do unnatural/stupid things in a game that aren't really that hard or fun. Some challenges aren't even very creative like don't get hit by a boss or just achievements that show off your progress. Amazing and beautiful community though for adding this stuff to old games, but it's full of faggots and left wingers. I also miss playing games on normal original hardware. My friend who also had an account on there deleted his because he told me that a lot of the achievements felt grindy and not fun and that every time he wanted to play something retro he had to play it on an emulator or else he was missing out on points. Currently I have mastered 42 games should I delete my profile and play old games just for fun?
yes
didn't read all that, but i did read the subject:yesachievements are for people who pretend to have OCD
I can't believe somebody as retarded as this is trying to talk down to anyone.
in Portal the achievements are goals such as 'beat stage 1 without touching the floor' 'beat stage 5 with only creating 2 portals' 'beat stage 8 without using a weighted cube' etc.. I like these they function as an additional challenge and are something that is engaging and fun to do after you played through the game.achievements in every other game are either milestone achievements or a pointless grind that have no challenge or respect for your time and are just there to function trigger and satisfy an ocd urge.
>>736339418The portal achievements that rely on "making the least amount of steps" are ridiculous and literally designed so that you cannot do better than them, if it says do it in 11 steps, you can't beat it in 10 for example
>Amazing and beautiful community though for adding this stuff to old games, but it's full of faggots and left wingers.lollll you snowflake
>>736339061>retroachievements
>>736339061Outright deleting your account seems retarded, just take a break from it nigga.
Why is this shit being spammed for weeks. I don't care about your efag drama
>>736339061Anyone with a Guts avatar should self-terminate.
>>736339061retard
>>736339061achievement mental cage unironically conditiones what i play draining any fun of it
>>736339061Some of the achievements suck ass.Just play ass you go, I mainly use it to keep track of what I already played and what games I want to try next. Turn off the notification for it and play as you go.
>>736339061retro achievements are a retarded idea and you should really just try to enjoy video games on their own without meta objectives
>>736340492>I mainly use it to keep track of what I already played and what games I want to try nextYou shouldn't need achievement trackers for that.
>>736339061Tranny-coded website. Quit it before it's too late for you.
>>736339061>caring about cheevos>in retro games, at thatlollmao, even
>he just 100% the fucking MARIO games
>>736339061Developers didn't intend for these achievements, therefor they're fake. You're a dumb faggot for even using them in the first place and you should be ashamed.
>>736339061I am doing it anons. From now on I am just going to enjoy games without retarded meta objectives.
>>736342046Thank the 360 for this stupid shit.
>>736341551>Developers didn't intend for these achievements, therefor they're fake. This part gets me too. At least with official achievements there is some air of "legitimacy." I do not understand caring about an achievement list authored by SkrumpyWilkins or whoever the fuck.
>>736339061yes you should never join social groups when it comes to hobbies. it never works out because they are fucked in the head and all it does is ruin your enjoyment of the hobby
>>736341551>>736344554this is such a stupid take, its simply a method to show you did something with a basic level of verification. That is all an "achievement" is, something that tracks when a memory state in a program is reached. Its a way you can "show them online" as they used to say. If the dev programmed them in or not is irrelevant
>>736344653The problem is no one cares if you did something in a video game and the need to verify it with a little sticker is kind of sad. No one cares that you got 120 stars in Mario 64 on April 3rd, 2026 at 1:31 AM when you could have been doing literally anything else.
>>736344653>show them onlinepic relatedIt's just something that I find pointless, personally. But a service like this is certainly tailored for the kind of player that thinks just like '360 kid'.
>>736339061Why do you need me to tell you what to do? If you miss playing without it then get rid of it. For me it only enhanced my retro gaming as i love doing shit like no damage runs and whatever other arbitrary extra challenge. And if it's a game i'm playing blindly or don't feel like going for that type of stuff, i just do the ones that are fun and skip the rest. The biggest benefit of the website for me is that it actually gets me to play way more stuff than i did before. I always tell myself i will play this that and the other but then never get around to it, but thank's to RA i'm actually just playing all the shit i want to now and finishing them. Guess i needed a little extra push.
>>736339418The problem is that videogames are played by more than 1 person. and everyone has a different idea of what a fun achievement is. some people want the basic stuff like progression achievements for each stage and beating the game, others want that extra challenge like the portal ones, others want actually hard shit that pushes you to really learn the game inside and out, others want speedrun stuff, etc.So no matter what, no set of cheevos will appeal to everyone. But due to RA being community run, there is a huge variety of what type of sets you get. Some are mostly just progression, others are mostly extra challenges or level restrictions, etc. And you can pick and choose the ones that fit you while ignoring the rest.I'll never understand the autists that need to 100% every game and then cry that not every set was fun to them. It's not possible.
The coin collector subset doesn't work in Mario Galaxy. I collected all 34 coins in Good Egg Galaxy and no popup or anyrhing. I nickel and dimed every damn goomba and I didn't get my damn fucking cheevo.
>>736346757get a manual unlock from the dev. you do have proof, right?
>>736339482false
>>736346602>I'll never understand the autists that need to 100% every game and then cry that not every set was fun to them.Achievements are designed to facilitate compulsive and addictive behaviors. There's literally no other reason for them.Take this retard for instance, >>736346317: I don't think there is a bigger indicator that you shouldn't be doing something than your only motivation being to get a digital sticker. If you can't start or finish a game without external affirmation you probably should do something else with your life.
>>736344760I occasionally check what friends have done in games to see how far they've gotten
>>736339482the least portal and least time ones are basedthe least step ones are cancer, i copied some youtube video to get them
>>736345126Idk I have no friend on my steam account and I sometimes do all achievements in a game for no other reasons than wanting to play more of it, it just gives a goal.
>retroonachievements
i'm at 16/50
>>736347014>No other reason than wanting to play more of itAnd surely the best way to play more of a game is not by starting a fresh save, it's by accessing Tick-Tock Clock in all possible time states in a single session for a meaingless marker on your profile.
>>736346797I have proof. Maybe you have to get all the coins in Grand Star Rescue to unlock the set? Idk I got all 34 coins. They might ban me for posting on 4chan lol
>>736339061Do whatever you want. Why can't you think for yourself?
who gives af about any achievements i turn the notifications off for it on every console and steam
>>736347263some high ranking people on the site have the 4chan logo in their profile picturethey don't care, atleast not out loudand idk, never played Galaxy. saving it for my last game of the Wii Event
>>736347271>anon doesn't care about the thread topic>he's so cool and different from the others
>>736347351the thread topic is achievements and i care that retards actually think gay ass digital participation awards mean anything
