Games take too long to make now, if entire generations grow up without ever playing a mario game(because none were made in that period) then the brain will be damaged and eventually die off.A bad movie would barely hurt the brand compared to a bad mainline game, and it's harder to utterly fuck up a movie to that extent.Basically they are trying to protect their brand power.

If I had a kid right now they'd be playing shit like mario 1 once they were 3ish years old to start developing them motor skills and shit. I'm pretty sure I had beaten mario 1-3 and world by the time I was 5. Nowadays you could have your kid on that path then introduce them to 15 more mario games in the time it could take for a new one to release by the time they are 8 or 10. First off, Miyamoto was hired while Nintendo was still making toys in the 70s, and he was hired after showing off his own toys he designed. Nothing to do with "seeing the potential of video games." Arakawa was the one who still saw potential in the western gaming market and busted his ass to get the already successful famicom into the US. I would begrudgingly extend millennial status down to 31 year olds but some of them would be only 5 years old and no way they have coherent memories of 9/11. Your eldest zoomer is 30 and your youngest zoomer is like 15. The crucial zoomer cut off is "had you already learned how to read before covid remote learning?" 3rd grade is kind of the cut off for normies to reach that level of reading skill. Zoomers are little puritans who don't fuck and kvetch about age gaps as small as 3 years between like a 20 year old and a 23 year old. It's weird as hell to witness from my gen z coworkers. Mostly though I just feel sorry for them, they seem to have been dealt the same hand millennials were and there's a lot of overlap between us. We get along well. They do call in sick a lot though instead of working through a hangover like would be expected of gen x or millennials. In general they are a bit bitchmade. I've seen some alpha specimens, but for the most part kids are just kids where I live. I don't doubt the ipad kid phenomenon, but I'm not dooming on them yet. I really suspect a lot of gen alpha doomerism is cultural difference. Teachers teach their native culture children for 20 years and suddenly they have to teach an ipad kid from an islamic cultural background and just give up figuring out how to interface with that new specimen. I think technologie's impact is definitely winning for defining gen Alpha but not enough attention is given that they are the most diverse (relative to "native" population) generation ever in 1st world countries.
