Asking people who played the original Resident Evil trilogy for the first time. What do you think about them?
>>
>>736341237
does it count if you played these games for the first time when they originally came out?
>>
>>736341421
That's cheating. I was curious how young people who never played them before think about them. But you can talk about them if you want.
Also, the Resident Evil bundle on GOG is on sales right now.
I'm currently replaying RE1 for the first time in almost 30 years and it makes me feel so nostalgic..
>>
>>736341237
I played them on release. Tank controls and backtracking have always been bullshit. Playing as Chris in RE1 was a fucking nightmare. I didn't have RE2, but briefly played it with my friend on his console, so I won't pass my judgement. Re3 felt great, but was very short. Playing it for the 1st time felt like a genuine horror game, but the subsequent playthroughs turn it into an action game of "will I manage to fuck Nemesis up on every encounter to get the items".

The lab sections have always been the weakest part of every RE.
>>
This thread is gonna be full of retardation.

These games are classics. They're legendary. End of story.

>RE1
Cool to see the series origins. The voice acting is fun. Fuck the Hunters. I prefer the Remake's game mechanics.
>RE2
Cute story. Worth playing
>RE3
OG Nemi is rad. He seems intelligent by today's enemy AI standards. Game is hard as hell at points. You gotta master quick-turning and positioning.

I fucking hate the spider enemies in each one. They're very scary.
>>
>>736341237
RE1 is turning out to be a chore and I’m not sure if I’ll get around to finishing it
RE2 is fantastic and deserves its reputation
RE3 has been my favourite thus far, which comes as a surprise because my dad told me it was the weakest of the trilogy
>>
>playing old ass uncslop
>>
>>736342342
RE3 was the weakest "RE" of the three but gameplay and mechanics wise, it was the best of the three. It was really fun to play.
>>
RE1 sucks so much ass. The only redeeming factor is the colorful environments,

Crazy how millenials think this is the best one in the franchise
>>
>>736341237
Just beat RE1 so I can't give you my opinion on all of them, but RE1 was good. Currently on 2 right now and liking it, although not as much as 1. I'm a zoom zoom that plays gun and ball 3.

>no cheevos

>DRM on 30 year old games that you can easily emulate on toaster phones
Genuinely, what's the fucking point of Steam ports of old capcom games?
Is it for people who are too dumb to emulate or what? Can you even use mods?
This whole thing just seems like a scam to me
>>
>>736342596
Because steam is a like the amazon of gaming. It's so popular that if your product isn't on it, people will be less inclined to buy it.
>>
>>736342596
I thought cheevos were for trannies and teenagers or something? Idk, you guys flip flop too much.
>>
>>736342580
I got stuck on the door lock number and think I made it randomly. The numbers on the billiards table. The plant boss i fought with the knife. I went around the entire game looking for the eagle medallion before I found it. Check every item, guys.
>>
>>736342648
I guess that makes sense
It's just weird because both REmake and RE0 got more features over these shallow ports despite being releases from a decade ago

first game is kinda ehh i would rather just play the remake
2 and 3 are great and 3 in particular is my favorite, always heard 3remake was shit and barely follows it so i guess thats a skip

not really interested in any of the numbered games past 4 so what else should i play? 0, CV?

Best part of the RE1 spiders is how a bunch of baby spiders spawn from their corpses when you kill them. Don't you just love the feeling of all of those spiders crawling all over your skin right at this moment? You know they're going to crawl into every one of your openings when you go to sleep, right?

They're fast as fuck in RE1. But they only show up in 2 rooms so most people never really deal with them. They can stand on their hind legs and run fast enough to catch up with your character and knock them down. For whatever reason they're much more docile in 2 and 3.

Re1 was the spoopiest. Took me a while to finish cus I was scared. Re2 was much cooler and easier to play and Re3 was a borderline arcade action game. They are all good but Re2 is my favorite. I don't like stalker type enemies and that's why I am not a fan of new RE games. They lean heavily on stalkers.
>>
>>736342596
probably will take a year or two, but capcom will add that and some steam profile shit like wallpapers or avatars so you can larp even harder
trust the plan.

Played through them for the first time back in december to prep for RE9, started with OG1 but played the remake while waiting for a buddy to catch up so we could go through RE5.
OG1 is better than the HD remake by a landslide, the goofy performances and tone is like half the appeal of the first game and they're just removed in the remake, leaving it hollow.
I got pissed off trying to beat Nemesis on Hard Mode in every encounter for the guns so I opted to play the remake instead to keep up on pace with my buddies going through just the remakes. Wild how different they both are but I liked the remake even less than the original. I will be revisitting it now that I'm rounding out all the achievements in 9, I'll either continue on hard and just ignore nemesis any chance I get or blast through it on easy.
RE0 can suck a fat dick. Fuck that grapple hook.

I liked them a lot and I think it's a travesty that people skip them in favour of the remakes. Honestly RE4 can be kinda skipped if you play the remake though. Still a fun game but the only gameplay aspects absent in the remake are still present in RE5 and the only things left can be summed up as 'hype moments and aura'.
>>
>>736342596
>emulate
Use the gog version
>>
>>736341237
Playing RE3 cause the remake is pure dogshit and trying the original just makes the Demake look even worse, i just got to the cable cart where you meet the other UBCS members and it holds up surprisingly well, Nemesis closing an entire room's gap in a second is kinda unnerving even to this day
>>
>>736341774
>I was curious how young people who never played them before think about them.
They aren't buying these shitty ports
>>
>>736341237
All great games. 1 is quite dated but it is a very early Playstation 1 game after all and I like the campy-ness of it. Nemesis is my favorite because I feel like it's the only game in the franchise that actually pushes players to their limits.
>>
>>736347193
>but capcom will add that and some steam profile shit like wallpapers or avatars so you can larp even harder
Capcom didn't develop these and don't care about them. They just let GOG patch them because it costs them nothing but still makes them money.
That's also why RE1-3 have no achievements on PS5 or Steam, because that would actually cost Capcom money. They'd need to actually have someone approve the achievements and any associated art for them.
>>736342596
Forgetting a couple other things, like the fact that basically none of steam's features work with these at all, and that none of the games function on steam deck.
It's a completely worthless release unless you're an absolute retard who doesn't know how to emulate or how to pirate.
>>
I feel like I prefer RE1 over REmake because of no Crimson Heads
>>
>>736341237
I started my playthrough of RE1 a bit before they showed up on Steam (not that I'd buy it from there with the DRM), but I'll chip in anyway.
It's fun. Voice work is funny, but memorable, mansion feels nicely designed and thought out. Some items I can't figure out the purpose of like the broken shotgun (I assume it bypasses the Jill sandwich scene if you swap it in for the actual shotgun?). Tank controls + fixed camera is fine, anyone complaining about them is probably a dumbass since the game is designed to accommodate it, though then again I did play DMC1 not long ago either so I've had time to familiarise myself. I did hear about branching paths which has me a bit worried over missing out on shit/getting bad outcomes, but I'm just going to push through anyway.
Last I recall I was in the underground lab with the respawning zombies.
>>
Zoomer here
I've played 1-5 including 0, REmake and CV
I love all the tank control ones, CV is one of my fav games ever. I think 0 is the weakest one but ngl maybe I was just filtered by the inventory system
I like 4 and 5 the least, they don't really tick the cozy puzzleboxy feeling of the others. Haven't played 6 yet but plan to because I like the camp of 5 a lot. 4 is super hurt by the weak villain imo
I also played Silent Hill 1-3 at around the same time and I liked them way less
Hope you got what you wanted OP

Nigga you summed up the classic perfectly. This is why they've sucked balls ever since RE4 changed genre. I still liked 4 though, but they've never been the same as the point and click classics.

Really like the A and B scenario gimmick. Looks awesome and has some of the best music/atmosphere in the series. Way too easy tho because of all the ammo
>3
My favourite classic game. Playing this and experiencing all the cool shit it did made me even more butthurt about how shit 3make is. If the dodge worked better it would be a 10/10 game.

Complaining about filling up your inventory in DS is a sign of being really shit at the game.
Do you pick up every herb you see or something?

why would I not pick up every healing item? that's stupid.
>>
>>736341237
I watched a vtuber play RE2 on Twitch and she started literally cry when she met the 2 spiders in the tunnel under the basement. I guess the games still do their job.
>>
It's a horror game. There's nothing scary about the old games thanks to the dates graphics. No real atmosphere anymore.

T. 36 boomer who never played them as a kid and only played 4 onwards and the REmakes.
>>
>>736341237
Played them in order of 2>1>3. 2 is just plain fun pretty much all the time. Maybe a bit too much on the easy side but very replayable. 1 had a fantastic opening, probably my favourite start to a classic RE. Once you get to about the garden section, I think it starts to fall off. I think 3 is cool, I love the idea of Nemesis. But I think the game leans too much into action over survival horror and suffers for it. I'd take SH1 over any PS1 RE
>>
>>736351192
I'm a zoomie i literally just ran past the spiders. Come to think of it I never really thought any the spiders besides the big one in the catacomb section in re1. Literally a gay enemy. I guess you have to be a big arachnophobia to find it scary.

1: i prefer the hd version
2: i don’t think it should directly be compared to the remake because they’re way too different, but i liked it more than 1 classic

Out of the original 3 I found 1, Resident Evil 1996 one of the best games of the franchise
But 2 and 3 felt like a clunky boring slog
Yes 2 and 3 have better gameplay but its like they are trying too much for their time
I also hate FF6 but love 3-4-5.
I hate when games try doing too much for what they can handle.

it was re2 with steroids this game is actually so hard if you don't know how enemies AI works or if you don't know what items you are missing in the first half of the game.

re2 had better atmosphere but I prefer re3 way more only because of how challenging it was
