all of the bosses in Hernand come from either main quests but mostly from side quests
other regions have some of the bosses just sitting around in map at all times
those boss fights always give you at least one piece of unique gear, usually a piece of armor from their set or sometimes it's a weapon. you will normally find the rest of the armor in waterfall caves.
side quests will also change various forts and other locations to being occupied by a hostile faction
but there is no interaction between main quests and story quests. you won't get a new ending or change a main quest by completing certain side quests

I was thinking that at first, my first theory was "maybe the amazement/wonderment effect has worn off, and I'm starting to see the cracks, but when you see a spire tower look like a cock made out of mashed potatoes, it simply can't be gaslighting myself. The entire time I've had wierd issues with textures. Everything would look beatuiful and the bronze squares you see stacked up in that one town or during the blacksmith cutscene were obscenely low res. Cutscenes look great and there will be a randomm shot with PS1 textures on a sack. It's very wierd. It almost feels like the game processes assets where you are supposed to be looking, and has them look like shit in your periphery. Doesn't help that all these settings add blur.

I've been relying on the maps's fog of war to determine areas to explore for quests, "shimmers" from the lantern (abys nodes puzzles and what not)
Will available quests pop up in those revealed locations, even if I haven't actually been there yet?

The only advantage of fist is the speed and how it pushes you to point blank range to use the fire elemental attack. This is huge if you use fire imbue abyss gear and you can instantly fill boss' stagger bar. Also, you can use frost mantle's freeze effect to shatter frozen enemies because your fists are fast.
