How the fuck can I still replay this game years later and have a blast every time? I’ve beaten it probably 20 or so times since it came out in 04, sometimes not touching it for years on end, but every time I come back it just blows all other games out of the water.

You're an impressionable brainlet and an RE4babby who got primed by this game in a very specific stage of your life.

I think a lot of it is the atmosphere. It’s a beautiful game in a lot of ways and it’s balanced just right with a sort of meloncholy gloomy feeling. re5 wss disgusting by comparison from an aesthetic standpoint. Everything look deep fried for some reason and I quit half way through finding it’s world boring and ugly to look. I didn’t care what secrets its world had vs re4 where the world is a place I find myself wanting to explore myself, with many areas that are comfy and beautiful despite the “horror” setting.

In some regards this is similar to a degree to what some of the Castlevania games seem to do with its gothic atmosphere where it has ornate and beautiful things to look at.

I could make one of those long hyper autistic videos about this. RE4 is closer to a beat 'em up than it is to the average third person shooter, it's arcade kino.

I can't replay it anymore now that I have a 144hz monitor and have to suffer through 60fps

every action feels satisfying
>shoot guy
>he staggers
>roundhouse kick him, tripping all his friends too
>knife them while they're on the ground
it's just way more fun than a regular shooting game where you just go for a headshot after headshot

Aiming itself is fun, because you control the laser dot and the camera is not centered on it so you can track moving enemies intuitively because you have some kind of stable reference points around them. And then Leon's hand shakes and makes the dot tremble unless you're moving it, so you're encouraged to aim and shoot immediately. Once you're familiar enough with he system, you enter this aim and shoot flow and it's just fucking amazing

The fact we got this kino back in like 2004/2005 and nothing like it since, it must be a lost art/lost technology. Those Japanese boomers can’t be replaced. They very well may have been the apex of developers and we never will get these great games that are maximum soul ever again. I just don’t see any way it can happen. they were also largely untainted by the internet—- part of me wonders if there is some kind of intangible quality those old devs had just being born in and living in a normal world. the games after 2010 just don’t have the same feeling.

Great games are great even after 200 years.

I've replayed RE1-3 and SH1-2 some 50+ times, each.
I've put 10k+ hours to all three STALKER games since 2007, with and without mods.
I revisit Ocarina Of Time and Majora's Mask every other year or so.

1995-2005 was the undeniable golden age of all gaming, if not all media and culture. It's been endless downhill since then.

I genuinely don't know and you can't tell us apparently so the reason is probably not very good
