Consumers are the check against bad practices and also the reason they happen. The push for live service and AAA is because consumers purchase those more than anything. Square Enix has made lots of smaller titles but they mostly flop. So they focus on what people buy, big games and remakes. Sony stopped making Jak, Sly, etc because TLOU, Ghosts, Horizon sold way more. So consumers have final say.
