Has there been a more universally panned and repulsed Mario game than this shit right here?

The irreparable damage it did to the franchise should be analyzed.
>>
Probably not. This game is terrible on a fundamental level.
>>
New Super Mario Bros

?
No one has a problem with NSMB1. It's a fairly good game.
The problem was the burst of games from that period of time that made it seem rehashed to death.
>>
>>736360763
I really don't understand people who say it's "a good game but bad Paper Mario game". It's genuinely bad on its own too.
>>
Has it not been analyzed to death? It's been pretty obvious even from SPM onward that they had terrible, terrible management. SPM wanted to completely Change The Formula and got a very messy game (with an incredible story and soundtrack thoughbeit), then after that management higher up thought surely the game needed to be "more relatable to Mario players" to do well (as SPM was after all a platformer, just like nsmbwii which did insanely well). Just bad, bad decisions all around. It's sad because SS does have good music, occasional funny writing, good graphics, you can tell love was put into it. Makes it just that bit more sour

>because SS does have good music, occasional funny writing, good graphics, you can tell love was put into it.
They were developing a good game until Miyamoto stepped in, screeching about the story and being too similar to TTYD

The damage was already done because they decided to not have basic RPG mechanics like experience points or party members, and every move was a consumable even when that didn't make any sense. Color Splash for example was doubling down on bad ideas.

That's because they immediately went into production after sticker star and refused to read any feedback

>burst of games
NSMB: 2006
NSMB Wii: 2009
NSMB U: 2012
NSMB 2: 2012

four games in six years isn't exactly a "burst"
But yeah, NSMB itself isn't the problem, the problem was Nintendo releasing the same game over and over with almost no changes and calling it "new" each time.
>>
>>736360905
It was more about how it infected Nintendo's design philosophy with their games going forward.
>standardized Mario's artstyle for every proceeding game to look sterile and safe.
>caused a bunch of other games like Sticker Star to adopt the simplistic level design of going through several stages in each "world" with each world having the same tired formula of "grass, desert, water, sky, volcanic, castle, ect".
>infected 3D Mario with 3DWorld at a time when they absolutely needed their next 3D Mario to stand out.
>even infected Zelda with SS having the same overdone "grass, desert, water, volcano" world design
The exact same thing is happening now, only this time they're forcing open-world slop into all their games regardless of whether or not it should be there because of BOTW.

Nintendo has a problem where, if they find something that's successful, they'll try to force it into everything they can to try and replicate it.
The Wii/Wii-U perfectly encapsulated it. How many games did they release during that period that had motion controls that added absolutely nothing to the overall experience at best and were outright detrimental to the final product at worst? Star Fox Zero is probably the largest example of the latter.
>>
>>736363556
Refusing to read feedback is already stupid. Origami King, though, was made after plenty of time had passed and it still had a lot of the annoying Sticker Star design instead of reverting back to say Paper Mario 1.
>>
Paper Mario aren't Mario games
>>
>>736360767
This.

>Forgetting Golden Coins
>>
Maybe TTYD remaster will tell them people want that and not papercraft slop we've been getting since SS.
>>
>>736360640
Its a good game :)

Miyamoto…

New Super Mario Bros had a hand in destroying the Wii U.
It wasn't the sole problem, but NSMBU looking just like the one on the Wii made people confused about the new system

Have you seen that mod in development to lobotomize Sticker Star back into a real turnbased PM game, partners and all
