Out of the two highest selling consoles of all time, which one would you say had the greater library of games?

Well, the PS2 had games and the Switch didn't, so I guess the PS2.
>but what about bing bing wahoo princess panic for toddlers?
Sorry, I'm not a child nor do I buy consoles to groom them.
>>
They're both strong i like both but i'd say switch have higher highs but ps2 has way more games that are worth playing so i guess ps2

Switch for sure. You get all the Nintendo exclusives + tons of great modern indies + ports of some of the best classic AAA games like Resident Evil 4 and Dark Souls

ps2 and its not even close and then considering you can also play ps1 games on it and yeah lol

PS2.

PS2 has the benefit of being released early enough in the history of 3D games becoming standard that many of its games are seen as refining genres.

The game output between both is comparable. Both machines also are huge port machines that were typically weaker than their competitors, though I think the gap was far more obvious on the Switch compared to the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC. But we're also at the point of diminishing returns with hardware upgrades. The last time I was wowed by visuals was the jump to HD. Obviously if you compare the most technically impressive games of 2025/2026 to 2005/2006, the difference is massive, but think about if you compared 2005/2006 to 1995/1996, a 10 year difference. The leap in those 10 years was even greater and the past 20 years have been diminishing returns. The PS4 didn't impress me that much, and the PS5 didn't impress me that much over the PS4, though I might be able to say the jump from PS2 to PS3 would have probably felt like someone who jumped from PS3 to PS5. That's why I don't think the Switch being like a supercharged handheld PS3 with modern games is that big of a deal. Yeah, they look and run worse than other consoles, but the form factor and convenience and sheer library and affordability make up for what feels like a relatively minor compromise. The differences (and benefits) are more notable, and it evens out to choosing RE4 on PS2 over GameCube.

Ps2 obviously, who the fuck thinks games are better now than they were 25 years ago lol

Also most PS2 games, and 6th gen games in general, were made for those consoles; not shitty remakes, ports, and remasters galore.

Jump from ps3 to ps4 was massive.
if you compare gran turismo 5/6 and gran turismo sport/7 you can see graphical improvement.
PS4 was powerful but it was a empty on release

The PS3 was a double whammy for me. I remember playing the MotorStorm demo in stores in 2006 on an HD TV. The sheer jump from the PS2 blew my mind, and I had never owned an HD TV at that point so that made it look even more amazing. I didn't even like racing games, but I would play that demo every time just to gawk at it. But you get used to it, and by 2013, the PS4 reveal conference didn't wow me in the same way. I thought it looked better, but of course we had PC games like Crysis in 2007, and many others since. The PS4 just didn't look like that much of a leap to me. The PS3 was a monster even compared to most PCs when it came out, much like the N64 10 years prior. I'm sure that the best-looking PS4 game released years into its life compared to launch game MotorStorm is a major difference, but nothing is going to capture the jump from SD PS2 to HD PS3.

>has several of the best PS2 games, if not most of them
>includes games from previous generations and competing consoles through NSO/ports/remasters
>and also many games that were released afterwards
>all in addition to the system's own exclusives
The Switch and it's not even close. People need to take off their nostalgia goggles.

That will be $70 plus tax plus tip.

PS2 and it's not even close. There aren't even a dozen Switch games worth emulating that don't have objectively superior PC versions, PS2 has endless unique games.

wow strong argument bro did you hurt your knuckles typing that out

sixth gen clears and it’s not even nostalgia. ps2 had entire genres living and dying on that thing. weird mid-budget japanese shit, licensed jank, survival horror boom, character action actually being born. now it’s just AAA slop, indie roguelike #4821 and $70 “definitive edition” of a 2004 game.

switch is comfy but it’s basically a greatest hits machine + nintendo first party. ps2 was the wild west.

stay mad though.
