I think a lot of modern games have certain aspects that look photorealistic, but it’s only a matter of time before someone puts it all together and makes a game that looks almost perfectly real

I think being able to pick things up like in Half Life 2 are more important for immersion that graphics.
Graphics should be dialed back and the resources spent on filling the world with more unique props, especially if the game is set in a historical period so old farts and historians can point at the screen and scream "I know of that thing".
