In the context of games, AI doesn't just mean gen AI.

Development of in house AI models and tools to use so you don't have to pay to use the ones made by external sources for their AI workflow tools. R* decided to just go ahead and use the specialized AI tools from companies whose focus is making said tools. It makes sense considering, if we're being honest, how many games is Rockstar really going to make where they can use their in house tools enough to make it work investing the R&D for it? They also don't have talent that knows how even take advantage of AI tools for their workflows anyway.

I think a lot of people are slowly realizing that whatever speed you get from AI is marginal because in the end you still need to go and verify the output
toolchains and testing can get you far with code (just have AI review and test its own code kek what could go wrong) but soon enough something will break, and you need someone to understand what the code does
you need half decent coders and artists for the AI gain to be only marginal, of course
for midwits, AI feels like magic
you'd be surprised how quickly a team of artists can generate cool game-ready art. and then you don't have to bend over backwards to justify it to trannies on bluesky
same for code. writing code has never been the bottleneck
