you all realize this is DOA right?
>$800 MINIMUM
>resolution and FoV are the same as the quest 3
>0 exclusives
>by the time it actually comes out the quest 3 will have been 3 years old (quest 4 will probably be only a year away)
>the only compelling argument over the quest 3 is "but it's not facebook!" (99% of people don't give a shit)
when the quest 3 exists there's no reason to get the frame, it's basically just a quest 3 with steam branding

Yeah I feel sorry for anyone that buys this. They will charge 2x the price of a Quest 3 but the features are not even close to being 2x better. The fact the FoV is the same is the biggest shame here because an upgraded FoV headset would sell like hotcakes.

But I'm sure Valve will still sell their entire stock of this (yes, all the ~200k units that will be produced!) because Valve has way too many cultists that would buy a literal turd shat out by Gaben just because they enjoy his storefront that much, nevermind the fact Valve brought zero innovation in the last 10 years.

I don't care just let me buy it already fat fuck

I have an Index and I won't be buying it. Thing looks like major boring shit. VR is dead.
>>
I think the more pressing issue is that it doesn't have enough good games to justify the purchase altogether.

yeah sure lmao

>>
>>736371470
you're supposed to buy it and play 6 year old games on it because valve doesn't believe in making games

The reason people are excited about it is the VR integration into a linux desktop and the valve advancements on x86 games translation into an ARM chip
>>
>>736370574
Quest 3 with
>eye tracking
>no stick drift
>no forced auto updates changing or breaking shit
>no forced virtual environment that redownloads by itself
>mods for face tracking and whatever else
>more buttons on the controllers
>already comfortable out of the box without additional straps, facial interface, etc.

GIVE IT TO ME ALREADY NIGGERS

for the 1% who do, it's a pretty big deal

I think a lot of people don't understand just how big of a deal this is, I know people as old as 70 switch to Linux at this point for no other reason than getting rid of the cancer that is Microsoft.

All of big tech is currently racing to see who can make their product as shitty as possible in as little time as possible just so that they can squeeze more blood out of the fucked up economy we are living in currently, hell, my 60yr old mother just recently swore off Facebook after using it religiously for the last 10 years just because they won't stop force feeding her AI slop and ads.

I was super excited day one pre-order waiting for Steam Frame and everything OP says is correct - trolling or not.

It is a completely DOA VR machine. Can't believe we're in April with zero news or updates. This and the steam machine are going to be out dated by the point of release.
>>
>>736370574
Is there a better option to replace an HMD Odyssey when Windows 10's extended updates end and I have to switch to Linux, I don't think anybody has ever gotten it fully working on there
>>
>>736370574
>$800 for quest 3 without all the zuccing?
bargain, thanks again gabe for showing shitty companies how it's done
>>
>>736370574
ok retard
>better weight balance
>seamless foveated streaming through a dedicated dongle
>an actually workable operating system instead of android jeetware
>universal compatibility with both x86 and arm
if you don't value those you're literally brown
>>
>>736371018
This one isn't tied to Facebook, and (probably) won't sell videos of you jacking off to third party advertisers.
That alone makes it worth the price.

The hardware isn't anything exciting, but I'm waiting for Steam Frame, because it's going to have a plug and play open source x86 PC emulator for ARM, that soon after relese will be ported over to other ARM devices.
>>
>>736375165
It's weird that no one talks about the rather impressive software side of all this new hardware.
>>
vr dead af lmao
>>
>>736375165
>>736375275
Yes, the software is a step up from Oculus.

The problem is that the install base won't be nearly enough to swing development towards it. Oculus will still be >90% of the install base.

Also PCVR already kinda unified every headset,
>>
>>736371184
This. It's not hard to understand
