Honest thoughts on this console?

excellent console aside from all the red ring shit
>>
As a shmup fag I loved we got a ton of games and it still had a lot of quirky oddball stuff we saw on the xbox but it was the beginning of the end in those last few years when it and PS3 became interchangeable.
>>
>>736373687
The peak of XBox and better than the PS3 at the time which was stupidly expensive and hard to develop for and had no games
>>
>>736373687
The working man's console.
>>
the last console and the good console ever, a truly and worthy succesor to psx, ps2, megadrive and supernes.
>>
>>736373687
Even though that generation pretty much cemented all the awful shit that plagues modern gaming, I did enjoy the 360 a lot. Plenty of fond memories playing a ton of indie and arcade games with the bros all day long.
>>
>>736373687
browncoded.
>>
>>736373687
Had the best experience and memories on it.

I love the shape of it too, I'd love if Xbox sold a bigger version as a PC case. Thought about getting a 3D printer and printing some extensions for it to fit a PC in but a real case would be so nice.

As >>736374342 and >>736375114, the peak of Xbox. The red ring shite should've ruined it and it was the progenitor for a lot of the AIDS that plague us today, but it was a great workhorse and incredibly soulful.

I begged my mom day and night for a 360 back around 07 and she got me a Wii instead. At first I seethed but then I played shit like No More Heroes and Zach and Wiki and realized that it was pretty cool.
>>
>>736373687
Decent console.
At least mine didnt have red ring. Still having 2 disks for some games was bizarre
>>
You posted the best version of it; the Elite. Only thing that would be better is with a Silver Edition controller that had the multi-mode DPad.

X360 was probably equal or even better than the PS3. I can still hate Microsoft for XLive/HorseArmor monetization shit, but the console was good and even had Japanese devs getting onboard with Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Last Remnant etc... its really kind of a pity that these did not get PC/Steam ports down the line. That said one of the ones I lament is
>Tengai Makyou Ziria: Tales from Distant Jipang
This is a remake of the PCEngineSuperCD first JRPG on CD, and its thematically based on " What if Mythical/Feudal Japan, by all stereotypes of Japan that early Europeans had about it". The PCEngine version got a fan translation a few years ago finally, but the original studio RED devs said that back then they had to cut a lot to make it fit. Later they wrote a novel and there was an anime series, and from all that enhanced stuff they made the a X360 version, bolstered by all the previous games I noted above with interest in Xbox360. It actually came within 90% of finishing an official western release, but things fell though at the end.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWFhhK71uC8

The problem now is that Xenia can basically perfectly render and play everything... EXCEPT it basically softlocks the moment you get into combat, enemies/player avatars don't show up etc. https://github.com/xenia-canary/game-compatibility/issues/36

If this can get fixed, then we can work on a fan translation for one of the more unique X360 exclusive JRPGs. Until then nobody will try because it can only be played on a physical, JP X360.

>>
>>736373687
Great start hindered by design flaw, amazing late stage system hindered by the brand's management losing momentum and not getting much good software like early period.

Slim E >>> older 360s
>>
Thinking of buying one for nostalgia reasons. Which model is immune to red ring of death?
>>
I'd argue Xbox 360 has the best console library if backward compatibility isn't taken into consideration. There were iconic classics dropping every few months. Both big budget popular tuff and smaller scale AA type stuff.

We got entire trilogies on this thing even. Dead Space 1-3. Mass Effect 1-3. Gears of War 1-3. Lost Planet 1-3. Saints Row 1-3. etc.
>>
>>736378149
Only Arcade had IIRC.
>>
>>736375039
That was the wii, the 360 was the first one of those that stopped being consoles but the downside wasn't as prevalent.

>>736375535
>The red ring shite should've ruined it and it was the progenitor for a lot of the AIDS that plague us today
Credit where it's due; everyone would've ran from it but the men running Xbox at the time were real ones and said "we don't run from this" and so they tanked the losses and gave total support to the customers as god intended.
>>
It’s great. Way better than the nigger console(Sony)

Possibly the best console of all time, which is pretty amusing considering Microsofts repeated failures in the gaming industry. I had so much fun with it. Halo and Gears, late night party chat, making machinimas with my friends (including this Australian wigger I met). Great times.

Had the most robust online infrastructure, ported alot of variety from Japanese arcades, pioneered and normalized HD-graphics, cheevos, party chat, system-wide custom soundtracks, Xbox Live Arcade was the most robust digital store of its time and the start of so many AAA classics.
>>
>>736378820
>>736378903
He's being delusional. Wii won, 360 while better, after losing momentum in the last years of the gen was outsold by PS3. Even the best of Xbox ends up 3rd out of 3.

I hope we got some PC fags here that are not underaged.

PS3 is last gen Nvidia 7000. It's not "next gen" by any means. It doesn't even support unified shaders which every modern GPU does now. 360/Radeon introduced it first.

PS3 hoped to have graphics like this.
>>

wii was known for shovelware but i loved it eitherway, wii sports + resort is the GOAT in my eyes and not surprised it was the bestseller of gen7
>>
>>736379323
The whole gen was filled with shovelware.
>>
>>736379093
The downfall of the Xbox stemmed from its success as a multi-platform console that had Netflix, Hulu and other streaming platforms built in so you can do whatever the fuck you wanted through the console itself by just two motions in a controller. Not to mention their wireless controller standardization is the reason why Xbox 360 controllers are ubiquitous when it comes to PC gaming as well since they are made to just pair with anything seamlessly.
>>
Remember when PSN was down for weeks and every PS3 kid got made fun of by Xbox bros?
>>
>>736379445
Most people don't realize that wireless controllers became standard because of the 360 rather than some add-on to the console. It's so bizarre how many things MS during the 360 era is just normal nowadays.

Gears 5 has the best horde, but it took them a year, and getting rid of rod Ferguson, to get there. And then right after it got good they just stopped doing anything with it
>>
>>736379445
>>736379558
Kind of. Wireless controller were already becoming prominent. But 360 also had wired controllers, it was once Wii dropped when wireless controller were proven undeniably viable for gaming, Xbox at the time did contributed a lot but not all the way.
>>
>>736379474
If you wanted to play fighting games, you'd want to play them in the 360 than the PS3. It's how being an "online warrior" became a thing because Xbox's online was not dogshit (sometimes). Fast forward to today, and online is the main way fighting games are played and nobody knows what the fuck an online warrior is.
>>
>>736379714
The standardization was mostly through Xbox. Wireless controllers existed yes, but they were still seen as gimmicks (like the Wii or the Gamecube Wavebird) rather than the console standard moving forward.
>>
>>736378535
What are you talking about? None of that has anything to do with getting an obscure X360 game working on an emulator so that a meaningful fan translation project can begin.
>>
>>736379807
Then you'd be wrong because 360 launched with both; a wireless and a wired controller in its packages. You may be thinking on the industry standard shift, the three of them were all in into wireless controllers and the shift was quick.

>Still calling the wii a gimmick
It was integral. None of them were gimmicky; that was the eye toy camera, wireless controllers were add on tier.
>>
>>736379061
The tech innovations the PS2 ever had was just
>Be also a DVD player
>DualShock 2
>use of Network Adaptor to go online to play FFXI (because of PSO's success in the Dreamcast)
>being able to play some PS1 games
>putting USB ports in the console
That's it.
>>
>>736376426
>Last Remnant etc... its really kind of a pity that these did not get PC/Steam ports down the line.
But TLR GOT a PC release.
>>
>>736373687
It was a good console with a good library. Backwards compatibility, DVD player, Xbox Arcade was a novel thing then...
Also marked the beginning of a lot of bullshit.
>>
>>736379297
>Ruby
Back in the days when every GPU manufacturer and even OEM had a sexy tech demo character, even some unnamed knockoff on the shroud of the cooler or a big graphic on the box. Alternately, a monster or some sort.
>>
>>736380407
So? Are you under the impression that the amount of features slapped on a console is any indicative of its quality? Because you'd be wrong, going bankrupt tier wrong.
>>
I've owned 4 of these fucking things and they all had different issues. Horrendously unreliable hardware and started so many cancerous practices, fuck you for normalizing paid online and microtransactions. Forcing Valve to make L4D maps you could get for free on PC to cost money on the 360 was mega ultra jewish. All because they didn't want to set a precedent. It also became total shit after the kinect was released.
Decent controller and the last disc based console to let you play games without installing them besides the Wii. But the Wii had almost none of the 7th gen essentials.
>>
>>736380298
I know the 360 launched with both but you're not understanding why gamepads being wireless is the golden standard. It's because of Xbox, back then, really pushing it to be. XInput was a legendary innovation that brought a standard console gamepad into PC.
>>
>>736380637
>I know the 360 launched with both but you're not understanding why gamepads being wireless is the golden standard.
The tech was at reach. That's all.
>>
>>736380463
It did and I owned it, but it also got pulled for new purchases. TLR was slightly more flexible than some of the others, kinda like Eternal Sonata / Trusty Bell which also got a PS3 release, but its too bad that, in preparation for the remastered version on I think PS4, they basically hid and stopped selling the PC release because it already had all the upgrades they were trying to sell to consoles.

Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Tengai Makyou Ziria (remake) and a few others were exclusive to the 360 if memory serves and never got ported
>>
>>736380697
Which does not matter. What matters is who systematically standardized and pushed for it. Nintendo and Sony were doing jack shit for PC integration. I'll even give you another thing Xbox 360 pioneered: a dedicated guide button in the controller rather than just some Home/Menu button which brings up an actual system-OS overlay .
>>
>>736373687
kino you can softmod it with a usb drive now
>>
>>736380978

>>
>>736373687
I want to say this:
Unc machine
Unc brand
It's pretty clear uncs cannot maintain this industry alone anymore so obviously one of the companies is exiting which is xbox. PlayStation will become the defacto normie apple solution and Nintendo has the toddler-family friendly manchildren audience.
Valve has the stronghold for the desk autists, south-americans and the chinese.
Oh there's no place for uncs in this world anymore.
>>
>>736373687
It has the most innovations under its belt in a console gen, and arguably more influential than the NES.

Not really, it was a move everyone was willing to do at the time. Again; wireless devices/controller already existed long before proving the desire to adopt it.

>I'll even give you another thing Xbox 360 pioneered: a dedicated guide button in the controller
Now THIS is something Xbox actually pioneered alongside triggers on controllers.
>>
>>736381537

All of it was influenced by Dreamcast even the existance of the platform/brand to begin with.

>>
>>736373687
It was better than the PS3, easily. I owned both. The only thing the PS3 had over it was the free online.
>>
>>736394958
The whole Bayo IP is like a rights spaghetti because Sega owns Bayo 1 since they published that but Nintendo owns Bayo 2 and 3 because they published those. That's why Bayo 2 and 3 have stayed Nintendo exclusive while Bayo 1 is basically everywhere at this point. I guess Sega/Plat decided to use the best version (XB360) for the Nintendo ports because it just makes sense.
>>

>>
>>736397229
Yeah I'm sure Nintendo was aware which version was better too and pushed for that.
