Honest thoughts on this console?

>>736373687excellent console aside from all the red ring shit
As a shmup fag I loved we got a ton of games and it still had a lot of quirky oddball stuff we saw on the xbox but it was the beginning of the end in those last few years when it and PS3 became interchangeable.
>>736373687The peak of XBox and better than the PS3 at the time which was stupidly expensive and hard to develop for and had no games
>>736373687The working man's console.
the last console and the good console ever, a truly and worthy succesor to psx, ps2, megadrive and supernes.
>>736373687Even though that generation pretty much cemented all the awful shit that plagues modern gaming, I did enjoy the 360 a lot. Plenty of fond memories playing a ton of indie and arcade games with the bros all day long.
>>736373687browncoded.
>>736373687Had the best experience and memories on it.I love the shape of it too, I'd love if Xbox sold a bigger version as a PC case. Thought about getting a 3D printer and printing some extensions for it to fit a PC in but a real case would be so nice.

only issue i had with it compared with the PS3 was paid online and microsoft giving up with exclusives around 2009-2010 or so
>>736375412yeah, 360 shit itself and wasn't able to finish the race.
As >>736374342 and >>736375114, the peak of Xbox. The red ring shite should've ruined it and it was the progenitor for a lot of the AIDS that plague us today, but it was a great workhorse and incredibly soulful.
>>736373687just dusted mine off to play chessmaster before bed great console, lot of fond memories with it
I liked the Wii.
>>736373687Which games are playable on it that aren't on anything else?
>>736375589
>>736375589I begged my mom day and night for a 360 back around 07 and she got me a Wii instead. At first I seethed but then I played shit like No More Heroes and Zach and Wiki and realized that it was pretty cool.
>>736373687Decent console. At least mine didnt have red ring. Still having 2 disks for some games was bizarre
You posted the best version of it; the Elite. Only thing that would be better is with a Silver Edition controller that had the multi-mode DPad. X360 was probably equal or even better than the PS3. I can still hate Microsoft for XLive/HorseArmor monetization shit, but the console was good and even had Japanese devs getting onboard with Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Last Remnant etc... its really kind of a pity that these did not get PC/Steam ports down the line. That said one of the ones I lament is >Tengai Makyou Ziria: Tales from Distant Jipang This is a remake of the PCEngineSuperCD first JRPG on CD, and its thematically based on " What if Mythical/Feudal Japan, by all stereotypes of Japan that early Europeans had about it". The PCEngine version got a fan translation a few years ago finally, but the original studio RED devs said that back then they had to cut a lot to make it fit. Later they wrote a novel and there was an anime series, and from all that enhanced stuff they made the a X360 version, bolstered by all the previous games I noted above with interest in Xbox360. It actually came within 90% of finishing an official western release, but things fell though at the end. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWFhhK71uC8The problem now is that Xenia can basically perfectly render and play everything... EXCEPT it basically softlocks the moment you get into combat, enemies/player avatars don't show up etc. https://github.com/xenia-canary/game-compatibility/issues/36If this can get fixed, then we can work on a fan translation for one of the more unique X360 exclusive JRPGs. Until then nobody will try because it can only be played on a physical, JP X360.
>>736373687weirdly ended up more of a nogames console than PS3 by the end of the generation
>>736375198Dell sold a bigger version of it
>>736376581It had the best versions of multiplats so having less exclusives was forgiven.
>>736373687Great start hindered by design flaw, amazing late stage system hindered by the brand's management losing momentum and not getting much good software like early period.Slim E >>> older 360s
Thinking of buying one for nostalgia reasons. Which model is immune to red ring of death?
I'd argue Xbox 360 has the best console library if backward compatibility isn't taken into consideration. There were iconic classics dropping every few months. Both big budget popular tuff and smaller scale AA type stuff. We got entire trilogies on this thing even. Dead Space 1-3. Mass Effect 1-3. Gears of War 1-3. Lost Planet 1-3. Saints Row 1-3. etc.
>>736378149Only Arcade had IIRC.
>>736375039That was the wii, the 360 was the first one of those that stopped being consoles but the downside wasn't as prevalent.>>736375535>The red ring shite should've ruined it and it was the progenitor for a lot of the AIDS that plague us todayCredit where it's due; everyone would've ran from it but the men running Xbox at the time were real ones and said "we don't run from this" and so they tanked the losses and gave total support to the customers as god intended.
It’s great. Way better than the nigger console(Sony)
>>736376426Just get a S or Slim E, fag. They're cheap as hell if that nitpick is that much of importance to you.>>736378149Slim E. It even has a failsafe in case you somehow reach high temps.
>>736373687not as good as the ps3 but still very good
>>736373687PS3 is better
>>736373687GOATed. Gaming should have stopped here with the blades dashboard.
>>736378149The newer two, obviously. S or the E. But even later models of the original didn't have RROD problems. My S I got in 2011 still works fine.
>>736373687Possibly the best console of all time, which is pretty amusing considering Microsofts repeated failures in the gaming industry. I had so much fun with it. Halo and Gears, late night party chat, making machinimas with my friends (including this Australian wigger I met). Great times.
>>736375760Lost Odyssey bros...
>>736378651>HD development under the cell architecturelol no
Most people don't like to admit that the 360 actually won its console gen.
>>736375714The real Pokopia.
>>736378820Elaborate.
>>736378772>Possibly the best console of all timeSNES, Dreamcast, PS1 and PS2 are easliy above it.
>>736378903Had the most robust online infrastructure, ported alot of variety from Japanese arcades, pioneered and normalized HD-graphics, cheevos, party chat, system-wide custom soundtracks, Xbox Live Arcade was the most robust digital store of its time and the start of so many AAA classics.
>>736378820>>736378903He's being delusional. Wii won, 360 while better, after losing momentum in the last years of the gen was outsold by PS3. Even the best of Xbox ends up 3rd out of 3.
>>736378214>Gears trilogy It’s absolutely insane how badly this franchise was fumbled after being the peak 360 experience. Imagine being given the blueprint for kino and fucking it up so much you abandon your new trilogy.
>>736373687workhorse that was damn near perfect, rrod sucked dick though(never really got a proper experience with my first xbox 360 as it red ringed after a week)
I hope we got some PC fags here that are not underaged.PS3 is last gen Nvidia 7000. It's not "next gen" by any means. It doesn't even support unified shaders which every modern GPU does now. 360/Radeon introduced it first.PS3 hoped to have graphics like this.
>>736379125wii was known for shovelware but i loved it eitherway, wii sports + resort is the GOAT in my eyes and not surprised it was the bestseller of gen7
>>736379323The whole gen was filled with shovelware.
>>736379093The downfall of the Xbox stemmed from its success as a multi-platform console that had Netflix, Hulu and other streaming platforms built in so you can do whatever the fuck you wanted through the console itself by just two motions in a controller. Not to mention their wireless controller standardization is the reason why Xbox 360 controllers are ubiquitous when it comes to PC gaming as well since they are made to just pair with anything seamlessly.
Remember when PSN was down for weeks and every PS3 kid got made fun of by Xbox bros?
>>736379445Most people don't realize that wireless controllers became standard because of the 360 rather than some add-on to the console. It's so bizarre how many things MS during the 360 era is just normal nowadays.
>>736379061
>>736379143Gears 5 has the best horde, but it took them a year, and getting rid of rod Ferguson, to get there. And then right after it got good they just stopped doing anything with it
>>736379445>>736379558Kind of. Wireless controller were already becoming prominent. But 360 also had wired controllers, it was once Wii dropped when wireless controller were proven undeniably viable for gaming, Xbox at the time did contributed a lot but not all the way.
>>736379474If you wanted to play fighting games, you'd want to play them in the 360 than the PS3. It's how being an "online warrior" became a thing because Xbox's online was not dogshit (sometimes). Fast forward to today, and online is the main way fighting games are played and nobody knows what the fuck an online warrior is.
>>736379714The standardization was mostly through Xbox. Wireless controllers existed yes, but they were still seen as gimmicks (like the Wii or the Gamecube Wavebird) rather than the console standard moving forward.
>>736378535What are you talking about? None of that has anything to do with getting an obscure X360 game working on an emulator so that a meaningful fan translation project can begin.
>>736379807Then you'd be wrong because 360 launched with both; a wireless and a wired controller in its packages. You may be thinking on the industry standard shift, the three of them were all in into wireless controllers and the shift was quick.>Still calling the wii a gimmickIt was integral. None of them were gimmicky; that was the eye toy camera, wireless controllers were add on tier.
>>736379061The tech innovations the PS2 ever had was just>Be also a DVD player >DualShock 2>use of Network Adaptor to go online to play FFXI (because of PSO's success in the Dreamcast)>being able to play some PS1 games>putting USB ports in the consoleThat's it.
>>736376426>Last Remnant etc... its really kind of a pity that these did not get PC/Steam ports down the line. But TLR GOT a PC release.
>>736373687It was a good console with a good library. Backwards compatibility, DVD player, Xbox Arcade was a novel thing then...Also marked the beginning of a lot of bullshit.
>>736379297>RubyBack in the days when every GPU manufacturer and even OEM had a sexy tech demo character, even some unnamed knockoff on the shroud of the cooler or a big graphic on the box. Alternately, a monster or some sort.
>>736380407So? Are you under the impression that the amount of features slapped on a console is any indicative of its quality? Because you'd be wrong, going bankrupt tier wrong.
I've owned 4 of these fucking things and they all had different issues. Horrendously unreliable hardware and started so many cancerous practices, fuck you for normalizing paid online and microtransactions. Forcing Valve to make L4D maps you could get for free on PC to cost money on the 360 was mega ultra jewish. All because they didn't want to set a precedent. It also became total shit after the kinect was released. Decent controller and the last disc based console to let you play games without installing them besides the Wii. But the Wii had almost none of the 7th gen essentials.
>>736380298I know the 360 launched with both but you're not understanding why gamepads being wireless is the golden standard. It's because of Xbox, back then, really pushing it to be. XInput was a legendary innovation that brought a standard console gamepad into PC.
>>736380637>I know the 360 launched with both but you're not understanding why gamepads being wireless is the golden standard. The tech was at reach. That's all.
>>736380463It did and I owned it, but it also got pulled for new purchases. TLR was slightly more flexible than some of the others, kinda like Eternal Sonata / Trusty Bell which also got a PS3 release, but its too bad that, in preparation for the remastered version on I think PS4, they basically hid and stopped selling the PC release because it already had all the upgrades they were trying to sell to consoles. Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Tengai Makyou Ziria (remake) and a few others were exclusive to the 360 if memory serves and never got ported
>>736380697Which does not matter. What matters is who systematically standardized and pushed for it. Nintendo and Sony were doing jack shit for PC integration. I'll even give you another thing Xbox 360 pioneered: a dedicated guide button in the controller rather than just some Home/Menu button which brings up an actual system-OS overlay .
>>736373687kino you can softmod it with a usb drive now
>>736380978system-wide*
>>736373687I want to say this:Unc machineUnc brandIt's pretty clear uncs cannot maintain this industry alone anymore so obviously one of the companies is exiting which is xbox. PlayStation will become the defacto normie apple solution and Nintendo has the toddler-family friendly manchildren audience.Valve has the stronghold for the desk autists, south-americans and the chinese.Oh there's no place for uncs in this world anymore.
>>736373687It has the most innovations under its belt in a console gen, and arguably more influential than the NES.
>>736373687Had it for 3 months it RRoD on me and I tossed it in the trash. I have no opinion anymore.
>>736380585They shifted from CGI girls to anime girls
>>736381537>and arguably more influential than the NES.
>>736380978>Which does not matter. What matters is who systematically standardized and pushed for it.Not really, it was a move everyone was willing to do at the time. Again; wireless devices/controller already existed long before proving the desire to adopt it.>I'll even give you another thing Xbox 360 pioneered: a dedicated guide button in the controllerNow THIS is something Xbox actually pioneered alongside triggers on controllers.
>>736381537>It has the most innovations under its belt in a console genAll of it was influenced by Dreamcast even the existance of the platform/brand to begin with.
The original 360 is one of the best looking system enclosures there is and I really wish I didn't get a dorky rockband face plate for mine because I'd love to build a Steam Machine in it.
>middle school bullies were 360 owners>didn't get 7th gen until 2010 with ps3>only xbox own is a series S to catch up on some missed SP gamesNo I don't really like xbox. Halo kids were always mean to me.

>>736373687Truthfully, it had just as much bad stuff going for it as the good stuff
>>736391343Didn't the WiiU and later the Switch get the 360's version of Bayonetta released on it?
>>736374245It's the best 7th gen console, I had this and a ps2 all you needed.
>>736391735It was re-released on Wii U and Switch yeah after Nintendo saved Bayo 2 but I don't know if it was the 360 version. Probably though, the PS3 was notoriously bad.
>>736373687I burned through like five of these which all got red ringed. Funny looking back I still spent less then what a modern console goes for nowadays. I'll forever miss this era of consoles though. They were the last gen before all the normies invaded and ruined the hobby.
>>736373687Playing halo 3, reach, and gears 1-2-3 was literally the peak of my online gaming experience. Nothing has even come close to it.
>>736392529WII U was the 360 version, it was a thing back then. I don't know why though, maybe the 360 release was in the middle of a rights spaghetti(?)
>>736393976>They were the last gen before all the normies invaded and ruined the hobby.>beforeAnon... gen 7 WAS the generation where normies invaded for good, they finally moved in with gen 7. Wtf are you on about?
>>736373687It was better than the PS3, easily. I owned both. The only thing the PS3 had over it was the free online.
>>736394958The whole Bayo IP is like a rights spaghetti because Sega owns Bayo 1 since they published that but Nintendo owns Bayo 2 and 3 because they published those. That's why Bayo 2 and 3 have stayed Nintendo exclusive while Bayo 1 is basically everywhere at this point. I guess Sega/Plat decided to use the best version (XB360) for the Nintendo ports because it just makes sense.
>>736373687The console that turned gaming into the retarded gay mess it is today.
>>736387771Predates the 360 by a few years
>>736396538That or Nintendo went the extra mile to ensure the Bayonetta 1 release that went along Bayonetta 2's launch not being the unplayable one.
>>736397229Yeah I'm sure Nintendo was aware which version was better too and pushed for that.
>>736378820>Most people don't like to admit that the 360 actually won its console gen.PS3 had The Last of Us AND Grand Theft Auto 5 released on it in its final months before PS4 was released.

>>736373687The only good thing to ever come out from MicroSharts.
>>736400121It was the same shit as the PS3, i.e. region locking was entirely optional and a publisher decision.
>>736403584>region locking was entirely optional and a publisher decision>no compat list is accurate>you never know for sure if a game from other region would work on your consoleregion lock because copyrights is the most retarded idea ever known in bussiness.
>>736404020>because copyrightsRegion locking is solely for maintaining regional pricing. It's not a retarded business decisions. It's a good business decision for as long as your consumers don't have a way around it because it lets you maximize profits.
>>736404183>Region locking is solely for maintaining regional pricing. It's not a retarded business decisions.>customer sees game he wants to buy>game is not released in his area or flat out not localized>this is somehow a good bussiness decision>you know are losing the prospect of your product sellingNot seeing it tbqh
>>736404272For the people who don't have global publishing region locking was optional, you retard. For the big global publishers region locking meant you can charge some people more than others for no fucking reason which is basically free money. That's a good business decision. Not a consumer friendly one but still a good business decision.
>>736404394>For the big global publishers region locking meant you can charge some people more than others for no fucking reason which is basically free money.Doesn't this mean they actually prevented people going through losing that money?

>>736378149Jasper and beyond
>>736373687in some ways, console of the century. In other ways, total shit
360 was console gaming at its very height and practically defined how to play online and its features which is what every platform nowadays uses as a checklist. It was at the perfect moment in time, place and market to shit out so many features and also fail at it at the same time before PC (and Steam) overtook every console as the main way to play games in. I'd put it above the PS3 and arguably the PS2 for that alone. It was Microsoft actually trying its best to compete with Sony and Nintendo, two established market share giants, at the same time on the same thing. An era like no other, glad I was alive to be part of it.
>>736375673skate series
Dean Takahashi made a bretty gud in-depth on the 360 despite being shit at playing games. It highlights the story of everyone at Xbox being HUNGRY to take on Nintendo and Sony and basically greenlit every fucking idea in the sun to try and innovate because they were already crazy enough to step into the ring dominated by them. It was basically a miracle and through sheer autism they were able to compete.
>>736373687XBLA was magical. Lots of retro remakes and re-releases. A new game release every week on it.
>>736373687pure western KINO
I wish the xbox devs, engineers and executives were still as batshit insane during the 360 days. They were cramming all kinds of wacky shit into the 360. It was always a gamble and they were addicted at it until it finally caught up to them when they transitioned into the Xbone. I think everyone just got burned out or got demoralized. Even Phil, when he talked about it, was dejected that they lost steam and just limped on trying to lift the Xbox brand's head barely out of the waters.
>>736406045its fucking insane since Phil had EVERY OPPURTINTY TO NOT FUCK IT UP. im so pissed that "offline" play was not focused on and discarded.
>>736406104For all the shit wit the Red Ring, Xbox created one of the best and still existing console return-and-replacement program ever. You can literally request them components for self-repair, even outside of warranty, and MS themselves will ship it to you.
>>736406045Nothing Phil says should be taken into account, fucker was the photo smile guy; not a real leader.
>>736406972He wasn't Peter Moore but Phil was the at the head at the Xbox's lowest, even lower than the RRoD years. He gets points for surviving and staying in the ship when Don literally just jumped off.
>>736407071>Phil was the at the head at the Xbox's lowest>He gets points for surviving and staying in the shipHe managed to make that lowest look not so bad, let that sink in. What ship and surviving?! Phil only kept the wheel in sunking mode and allow calls that made it even worse for the long run.
I'm not going to pretend the problems didn't exist but I never had issues with mine. It was a fine console that played video games and that's all you could ask for.Honestly I think for me the best part was just being in college in the mid-late 00s, during the apex of the 360 and Wii days. Exchanging gamertags with dudes you met on campus was its own social ritual and just the palpable energy when a new Gears or Halo or COD was coming out. And all the local multiplayer offerings on the Wii.>tfw looking at my graveyard of a friends list now
