Because they have the DQX MMO that's Japan only that's a mixture of successor to XI and some modern MMO stuff but still classical gaming elements in it, hence it never came over seas besides how low the series is held in regards.

There's been talk over the years to make an international version of DQX that's single player, so maybe after that they'll make a new Dragon Quest while the nostalgia is still there before the players are too old and maybe bring it west this time, but unlikely.

As of right now? I'd say it's more or less the same. I think how people treat both of these games tends to be wrong. Neither is built upon longform replay value anymore. You don't play WoW for the story, you play it because the combat feels good and M+ is fun for a couple weeks. It's about of a theme park as it gets. And it still looks decent visually so that helps a ton. You play XIV when you want the story and have the 8-15 weeks for the high end content where it takes priority. I had fun doing Mythic on the dead time for TWW and got my first CE while Square took months to put content out. Maybe in that retrospect it's cool to be an idort because I like both for different reasons. And this is probably objectively a hater take, a cold take, I don't know, but WoW always had better single player content to just go and fuck around with and collect shit that I wish Square gave a shit enough to carry over. But they're too fucking lazy so you'll get the worst implementation of a glamour catalogue and vice versa. When you got unlocked gear pieces for all jobs, the monkey paw curled. And they couldn't even be assed to implement it all so you're still stuck with 30 spots forever. It's basically Square telling you they want to nickle and dime you for pennies and to just buy retainers already. True faggot behavior. Warcraft obviously is pozzed to complete shit and it doesn't even compare but I'm well past the point of giving any two fucks about the shit that doesn't interest me. I think the gameplay is good in both games, so I play both when it suits me. And neither does? There's a fair amount of nice singleplayer stuff that releases every year that passes through the cracks and isn't AAA slop. I didn't even think I could get CE in WoW but they made it surprisingly accessible compared to when I tried in Legion. Hope that helps somewhat. It's pretty nice as well that leveling is painless so you can just try everything if you want to.

The overall story would be the same: Dawnservant Competition, Wuk Lamat would still be there just a LOT less prominent so you had a little room to shine and properly teach her, rather than her pulling a Rey Palpatine and knowing everything when she needs it, and when she wins halfway through, she fucks off for the rest of the expansion because she has a goddamn kingdom to run and repair, at MOST coming back to help with Zoraal Ja's final fight.

The 2nd half would be Krile-focused with a hint of Erenville, exploring and finding more in Alexandria, and other than a quick stint to meet her Parents there, Living memory would be sequestered ENTIRELY to 7.1-7.2 content, NOT part of the main story, because that entire zone made no sense and was a huge "Slow down and take your time in this zone, even though Speen's about to nuke everything" pacing problem. This also means Wuk would not be present or pull a Zenos reality-shatter at the end, but Krile could find a way to stop or weaken Sphene with the Key and her Ancestry, which could open SO MANY FUCKING DOORS for writing her going forward.
