There would be games that did water in a new way, lightning, rag-dolls, destructive environment, size of the world, etc. And a lot of new thinking regarding gameplay mechanics. A lot of it didn't work out in the end but more often than not it was interesting and impressive.Now everything looks the same. Once in a while an indie game will have some newish idea and 50 other similar indie games will pop up in the following months.I do miss seeing actual progress, not just "we've made shadows extra-extra impressive!" bullshit.
