Been replaying slay the spire 1 for comparison and I think the biggest upgrade the sequel has over the original is the introduction of ancients and how their relics are incredibly more varied than the original boss relics and the removal of cards that were too OP or too Jank (Wraith Form, Searing Blow, Hello World, Dual Wield (yes I know some of these are still in the game but they aren't in the standard pool anymore))
And the think what I dislike the most is that there's no act 4 boss, this game has been in development for over 5 years, was it so fucking hard to at least repeat the heart as a placeholder?

It's probably for the best. In STS1 I did and enjoyed the A20 climb and heart kills and then I fucked off back to A0 and doing dailies since goofy memeing around with the modifiers is fun. The leaderboards also didn't seem hacked at the time so I'd feel like a swinging dick if I'd make it into the top scores, but I'm assuming whenever they get STS2's scoring functional it's still going to be completely fucked for placing on the dailies board. The one that deals 9 damage per turn is also very useful on him, but generally if you see him at the start you should be developing a plan for him from the get-go. sly isn't something you usually hard spec into, it simply supplants silent's draw/discard which you already want to go for since they're found in her common pool and enables her to find the cards she actually wants to play each turn.
most of her key uncommon powers from 1 were unchanged: even if you don't find a rare, having footwork, well-laid + wail, etc. remains equally as powerful.
in terms of rares, cards like afterimage are still amazing, new cards like murder/corrosive can become your wincon with proper energy + draw, and knife trap turns shivs from good to busted, especially with afterimage/envenom/shuriken/kunai. poison got nerfed from catalyst -> accelerant but it's still incredibly viable. master planner is just free infinite guaranteed after second deck cycle if you have some prepared/acros.

i think your problem is that you're reversing the process: you don't need to find a rare and then start picking cards, you pick decent consistent options and then pivot as you find potential wincons. silent is able to bet on certain cards that might not work out because if it doesn't, you can just discard it.

After playing like 10 hours with him, he feels like a very late game kind of character. Sovereignty Blade build and Star build are the only builds ive had moderate success with but thats only when I get really lucky with getting certain cards. man, the deck was really coming together and humming nicely and I had energy pots ready to adress energy issues but test subject wanted to cuck me two times from lethal with intangible not to mention drawing 4 burns out of 9 cards in a drawpile dropping me down to 2hp where I couldn't apply weak or block. limped into queen fight with no resources and died. Banshee's Cry was hitting for 110 with lethality, instinct and vulnerable. it was cool.

he has good damage commons like ball lightning, cold snap. the trick with defect is to build some level of defence while ur setting up your orbs/powers, so early block is good on him.
I also like to pick compact/iteration even without any synergy, they make a lot of fights easier and you can start a status synergy from that foundation, if offered.
Shadow Shield is his best defensive card, Refract solves your AoE needs.

Realistically it's because the devs wanted to make a bunch of minor adjustments to the game but knew that would create a ton of backlash because people hate change so they just implemented all of their changes on a new product and knew it would sell well because taking that approach avoids every issue that changing the first game would have created. If you click on the patch notes button in game you can actually see internal playtest patch notes going as far back as Feb 2023.
Anyway a lot of time had been spent remaking the game in Unity, and then abandoning that and remaking it in Godot.
They also spent a lot of fucking time iterating on Necrobinder. Just read pic related, it's talking about a "rework" for her but both the before and after version are totally unlike what we have now. I'd kill to be able to play one of these older Necros because she sounds a lot more interesting.

Surprisingly effective. I worked hard to remove all my attacks including the one Blight Strike I foolishly took way back in Act 1 and dedicated the entire run to being "Strength? What strength?" Do nothing except have energy, spam Scourge+ and Grave Warden+, loop my deck, generate as much block as possible especially thanks to Shroud. Problem is that Necro feels like she has ZERO real Doom gen outside of No Escape, and for No Escape you need any and all other Doom gen cards in the first place. Just had a pretty crazy run on defect that was fun. Metamorphosis+All for one+Scrape. The event that heals you 25 HP in exchange for Metamorphosis completely saved my doomed run and Bing Bong gave me 2 copies. I've done this before in the first game but it feels a lot more powerful in 2 getting stuff like 0 cost ice lances and flak cannons. You can just keep using turbo over and over without ever worrying about the voids. I think I generated multiple flak cannons in every combat and even some 0 cost all for ones.

Snecko here is still actually very good. You have a few 2 cost cards already so those are going to benefit, you just have to accept that sometimes your offering and battle trance will be bricked, but even at 1 energy they're playable. The important thing here is that you have the icecream relic so you're always going to be conserving the energy you weren't able to spend the previous turn. The additional card draw is going to feel REALLY good as well.

imo the trick with Ironclad is to just take every way to cheat out cards and exhaust/replace bad ones that you can. So Cascade, Havoc, Stampede, and then a bunch of draw and energy to play off of those. Whirlwind still shits on half the game and Dominate is crazy for getting some strength.
If you can luck into Barricade or some good block relics early Body Slam is still a free win too.

Probably one of the most high-damage Silent runs I've had and there's not even any Tracking shenanigans. Nightmare and Burst mean I can just cruise without Footwork. And there's not even a single Acro in the whole deck. It was so strong I didn't even bother to pot, just to see if I can beat the boss gauntlet without using any resources. Putting Nightmare and Burst on Wail, Anticipate, Backstab, and Adrenaline entirely neuter the boss's output. It's pretty fun to play a faster and more offensive Silent rather than passively blocking which isn't even a good strategy against Experiment and Door especially since your strong block cards will get exhausted, while Wail will exhaust regardless of the phase, also helping to improve draw consistency.

Those block relics are pretty great. A lot of mobs are predictable and do super massive hits on certain turns.
The statue elite starts his attacks on turn 3, the gas guy on act 1 gets his minion out on turn 3. I'm pretty sure one of the duo enemies on floor one also does a double attack on turn 3. Etc.

What's the best choice here really? Only 4th floor and only other card gained is High Five+. Snap+ is good for retaining Unleash. Sow+ is effectively 11xEnemy damage. No Escape+ is scaling damage but in another form.
