Does anyone else really hate timed quests in RPGs?

anything timed in videogames is usually gay and frustrating
>>
I once played a game with a timed main quest and
it kind of annoyed me because I like to explore every single pixel of a game when I play it

Well first off what kind of "timed" quest are we talking about? Quests with fairly long time limits that just make it so you have to focus on that quest once you take it? Quests with pretty short time limits where you have to race to complete them? Quests that aren't actually timed but will automatically fail if you progress the main questline too far (these still often get referred to as timed quests)?

for some reason old games used to have those more often, like the first fallout or the first two prince of persia games
diablo 1 was going to have that too but got cut (still doable with a mod tho)

Timed quests where you need to do a certain thing in a certain amount of time but they clearly tell you this and you can repeat it infinitely as many time as you can are fines
>Example : race to the next island in 2 minutes or less
Timed quests where they give you an arbitrary in-game timer to do something and if you miss it it's permanently gone are bad. It's the definition of forcing the player's hand by making him something he might not feel like doing on his own
>Example: Deliver supplies to Grafhror's camp before they're overrun by gnomes [02:04:33 remaining]
The gayest of the gayest though are quests that are timebased but nothing in the game actually tells you that besides flavor text that contains a sentence like "This is very urgent" even though the entire rest of the game would be quite okay with you dicking around for IRL days and pick up where you left off.
I know Dredge (mid game btw) did that by just arbitrarily making some NPC die if you take too long to talk to them eveb though everything else in the game is bumbling around in this limbo outside of time and space common in every video game ever since the hub level was invented.

The kind of faggots that don't like timed things in vidya are the types that take 100 hours for a game that's reasonably completable in 20.
And they're always the loudest complaining faggots, slow and vocal is a bad combination.

As long as it doesnt make me choose between it and some other content then Im fine with it.

One of the biggest reasons I dropped Outward

well, the opposite are literal troons judging by how all speedrunners end

It depends. I like timed quests where the time is a limitation; you have to make choices. I don’t like arbitrarily timed quests, especially if only some of them are timed at seeming random and/or with no warning.

Action economy is a good concept.

Anything that tells me "stop exploring and enjoying the game and race around the map and spoil an area/town really early and ruin your enjoyment of exploring that new area by obsessing over the dumb bs quest"
>>
>>736383662
Everything timed
>>
>>736384163
This is by far one of the most retarded bitchy whining posts I've seen on here today. What kind of stupid complaint is this? You're just looking for an excuse to bitch about something so small, aren't you?

Hit too close to home?

You niggas need to play DX human revolution and get punished for "just exploring".
