Just got back from a vacation, played some vidya at a bowling alley and pulled out my 3DS for the road trip.

That Batman game is insane, it's more like Twisted Metal/Burnout than anything resembling Batman including just shooting cars until they explode with ragdolling corpses but it also lets you pick from like a dozen Batmobile designs and does the zooming logo scene transition from the 60s show when you Continue. Then I looked up the studio behind it and learned it was their last game before they were forced to be a support studio for NBA2K and I got sad.

>What's Space Invaders Frenzy like?
Pretty much just a hybrid betwee single-screen shmup and shooting gallery where you're shooting down the invaders before they touch the bottom. Wish it had a little more inspiration from the SI Extreme games since there's not much variation beyond size and speed and the powerups (including your limited bombs) just bounce around the play area until you shoot them; there's some scoring and target priority which can make it a lot of fun though and there's just enough stage variety. It was a curiosity I finally sated since that giant screen always caught my eye (I've also tried that Tomb Raider light gun game with that gigantic screen and it's not good; it feels exactly like a mid-10s AAA game translated to an arcade game in the worst way).

Would you say Frenzy is better than or not as good as Extreme 2?
>>
>>736387923
MMX & Killer7 is good enough taste for me. So is that first one an h-game or what

>>736388242
It's not on that level. It's cool that it exists and is so prevalent in arcades these days since it's a good balance between the modern need for hardware gimmicks in arcade games and classic design, but Extreme 1&2 are the best Space Invaders gets IMO. I'd put Frenzy above some of the weirder attempts like Get Even though (and I don't even think Get Even is bad).
>>
>>736389110
Damn. Thanks for the info, though. I'll give it a shot sometime.
>>
>>736389110
Oof, I just looked it up on Steam and apparently it's an arcade-only game. D:
Welp. I'll try it if I find one in the wild. The only arcades I go to are Galloping Ghost, Round One (it's been a hot minute) and Full Tilt. It looks fun, at least.
>>
>>736389110
It's a 2D FNAF fangame in the style of the classics where the main gimmick is every night you get to choose which animatronics you let in and in return get money for upgrades and shit. It's a really neat love letter to the franchise and I personally kinda prefer it over the new games.

You can probably find Frenzy at any Dave & Busters or large bowling alley in the US, maybe even a theater. It's a Raw Thrills release and has that "giant screen" pull to it, the only games you're guaranteed to see more often are Terminator Salvation and one of the Fast & Furious games.

I really enjoyed the first Gravity Rush, but 2 hasn't grabbed me yet. I'm hoping it just has a slow start and will pick up soon.

I was hoping Project Wingman would be more Ace Combat, and so far it seems to provide exactly that. I still haven't settled on what perspective/view to use.

Star Ocean: The Divine Force seems like a pretty solid 7/10 JRPG, which is all I expected from it. It might have the best cast of characters in the series, though.

I had never played a Fire Pro Wrestling game before, and I know almost nothing about the pro wrestling scene, much less the Japanese one, so I wasn't sure what to expect. It's something I largely tried on a whim. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it yet, but it's at least unique enough that I don't regret trying it.

Been tinkering with Xemu. Marathoned Otogi in like a week. Great game, looking forward to the Immortal Warriors.
Stellar Blade is an all around solid game to me, good and responsive combat, good exploration, godlike music and atmosphere and a sexy af protagonist on top.
Twilight Princess is kino. The pacing is whack, but once it starts rolling it never stops.
Lastly, i think PSO2 NG is a bit overhated. Granted, didn't play a whole lot of it, and it was mostly just to get to Classic PSO2 which i'm going to be playing from now on, but regardless, the combat felt pretty solid and responsive and the aesthetics are cool. Maybe it's veterans or whatever, but what i played was fine.
Want to play NG3RE again, but my shitch controller, which is where i have the Master Collection, has stick broken. So yeah, can't go all out.

Fire Pro, ESPECIALLY World, is honestly more about the pretty legible controls and insane customization possibility. Steam Workshop has tons of wrestlers recreated because you can customize everything from look to moveset to even how the AI functions to be pretty damn close. It's about as in-depth as you can go before you toss out match gameplay entirely and get to those text-based wrestling promoter sims. If you like the gameplay itself there's a bunch of older Fire Pro games but the peak of wrestling gameplay is probably in 5th & 6th gen games based on real promotions, unless you want arcadey nonsense fun in which case it's either the Midway Wrestlemania game, WWE All-Stars, or one of the 6th gen Kinnikuman titles.
>>
>>736391021
Overly curious what your thoughts on Immortals was. Seemed like the generic gameplay model of 7th gen stapled to the generic presentation of later-8th gen in a way I've never seen before. Also based for Re-Pac 2.

Is the villain DLC out for AoV yet? I'm interested in trying that and the harder difficulty out. The game was too easy combat-wise until right at the final boss; the platforming will still probably annoy me a bit but nothing mandatory beyond one parachute segment with spiked walls (which was dogshit) was ever a pace-killer.

>>736398903
Fuck DK'94 and MM11 are so good.
>>
>>736399137
It is out.
Also the secret bunker didn’t fuck you up? As long as the Villains DLC doesn’t hit that level I’ll be fine with it.
>>
>>736399714
The bunker's an annoying level to get through but there wasn't a combat encounter that took me more than two tries. If it was engaging and easy I wouldn't complain, I love Kirby games, but it's easy while giving you all these tools that you don't really need and expecting most of the difficulty to come from stagger bars/super armor while hoping you engage with it solely to do combos and look cool. You can get the best ranks in Arcade mode while skipping >80% of combat encounters in a given stage and using upgrades that let you kinda cheese some of the scoring requirements.

Still, I ultimately had fun with the game. Final area where you sick the horde of ghost ninjas on the bad guy's army before the final boss which was the highlight of the gameplay side of things ended it strong. Solid 7/10, not as good as the Genesis, PS2, or 3DS games. I'll go and play those SEGA villain stages since they're probably more of a fun romp than anything.

Top left is most recent and goes clockwise. Rain World I had already completed and just playing coop with friends, Red Faction is alright but I find a lot of the weapons suck, I'm waiting for Crimson Desert to click, Echoes of Wisdom is honestly fun and I'm surprised that it's a puzzle game with traditional Zelda and BOTW mixed in, just a shame you don't play as Link. Landstalker is cool but really hard to figure out where to go sometimes, Madness Returns is also pretty good but I keep on taking my time with it so I'm only 70% of the way through it but it's a step up from the prequel for sure. Tyranny was okay but a weak obsidian CRPG imo, Saihei no Yukue is more for practicing Japanese than playing and I'm still slowly going through Okami but I haven't touched it in a month.

Extremely based, though I prefer RayStorm by a little personally. I've wanted to try Dragon Blaze next as far as shmups go, even though I should probably try to get down a 1cc on any of the ones I've touched first.
>>
>>736403462
Dragon Blaze 1-all isn't bad with Rob but the other characters have to deal with a lot of crazy shit. If you already started routing something I would just finish it first honestly if you really want the clear. Personally I can't play multiple shmups at once.
>>
>>736404132
My problem is that I'm always in an awkward midpoint where I'll check out a game because it has really cool concepts (aesthetically, mechanically or both), blind run through it, and then try to get my clears better and better for a while, and then get my sights on another game after I plateau. I've managed to 1cc a few beat-em-ups (nothing crazy hard but still took some time/routing) but with shmups I can't seem to settle on one to really grind. Been eyeing Galaga Legions lately as well but that's its own beast entirely from other shmups.

There's a lot I could complain about with Frontiers. At its core it tickled a feeling of just wanting to move quickly around a sandbox because I could, for the first time since Super Mario 64. Combat overall felt tacked on, but most Guardians were well-designed enemies. I don't think it overstayed its welcome, and the zones were sized well relative to Sonic's speed.

I'd put it in the same bucket as Echoes of Wisdom, where it felt like a good concept filled with halfassed fluff, but it got enough right for me to not be sour on it by the end. Demon Tides was the better fast open 3D platformer in everything but music and flashy boss fights.

>>736399137
I'd known about DK'94 being a well received puzzle platformer for ages, but I never knew till starting it how much groundwork it had laid for Mario's abilities in later games. Went to read the manual as soon as an accidental side somersault blew my mind.

When I am deciding what shmup to play I route to the end of stage 3, or the half way point of the game. If I like that route I play it. If it's your first 1cc you're probably going to see the first 3 stages a lot. Raystorm is a bit of a problem because it has webm related and an even harder section right after it, and you really don't want to die on either of those because you have very limited extends. But if you want to clear that game then go for it, I've seen people clear hard shmups as their first games plenty of times, it all boils down to how much you're willing to commit.
>>
>>736392567
The ridiculously plentiful customization options are a bit overwhelming. I generally like creating and fine-tuning characters, but damn is there a lot of stuff to sift through in Fire Pro World. Somewhat amusingly, when I first made a character for the "campaign" mode, I realized once I got into the match that my character didn't have ears, and just had a void through his head where they should be. I couldn't figure out which of the ungodly number of hair/head parts would fit into that area to fix it, and eventually just changed styles entirely.

>>736398903
That Donkey Kong game was a big surprise for me. I wasn't expected much from it, but it ended up being my favorite GB game.

>>736401468

I'm playing Demon Tides now after beating Turf, alternating it with Neon Splash and Tower. That's the most fun I've had in a platformer in ages, definitely buying Bubsy 4D on day 1. Not preordering though, because preordering games is stupid.

Strikers 1945 II is a game that I love and have been playing for years but never beaten. Basically I boot it up, get to stages 6 or 7 in one credit and then run out of lives, then maybe try again once more and then don't touch the game for a week, a month or more. One day I'm gonna sit down and actually practice it.

I've kept my RayStorm 1cc alive into Stage 4 a handful of times but segments like your webm (and just bad positioning in Stage 4 in general) usually fuck me over though I did get pretty decent at the final boss. RayForce is probably the easier overall 1cc due to the back half not ramping up quite so bad but on the other hand I find keeping it early on rough; I've managed to keep it going long enough to get an extend ONCE, and it's a shame since I've got that Stage 4 bossfight quick kill pretty much down. Meanwhile I've 2cc'd the bad ending of RayCrisis without even routing it much, they really backload that game's difficulty (possibly due to the enemy escape mechanic).
>>
>>736405771
Same for Bubsy. Never played a Bubsy game in my life, but 4D looks similar enough to Tides that I'll be a blind believer.
Is Turf worth playing too? I didn't care for its visuals so I never looked into it.
>>
>>736406101
I don't like Turf's graphics, a lot of stages are monochrome and one in particular was a red desert with red fog and red lights and it hurt my eyes. Generic NPCs look like they're made with MS Paint. The soundtrack is also hit or miss and I hate the main theme and the main hub theme. But the gameplay is legit good outside of combat (there's a reason the 2 mini sequels don't have combat and Tides revamped it). Level design is also hit or miss but it has more hits than misses IMO, and gets way better on the revisits. As in, after you beat a world you unlock an alt version, and to me the alt version levels are all more fun than the originals. It also has tons of content. Still, Neon Splash, Tower and Tides are such huge upgrades that it might be too rough to go back. Like, Neon Splash and Tower made small changes to your moveset and physics that make them feel way better. I think if you can get it for cheap it's worth it, but try the demo first.

Ghost trick I loved, i went in thinking it was just a puzzle game but aparently is also a murder ystery VN.

Rabbit and Steel i can see the appeal but it's not for me, maybe if i put 20 more hours in it it'll begin to click, but without any form of progression it feels like replaying stuff for nothing

Soma i can appreciate but it really feels the studio got lucky with amnesia with the first youtubers craze and tried to ride the lightning but didn't have the brainpower to make a great story

Valkyrie profile i'm split, on one hand had a unique gameplay, great spritework and general mood, but fuck everything else, story doesn't kick in proper until half of the game in, other NPCs are just recruits that disappear from the story the moment you get them, and the dungeons are ass to navigate

Ghost Song isn't good but has a good mood

Dragon quarter could be good but after an amazing first part it falls pretty quickly, also the game is dark as fuck, and i don't mean in themes, you just can't see shit.

Symphonia is a game i guess, simple platformer with some nice visuals and not much else.

Void Stranger i replayed and finally finished it, it was kino discussing on 4chan the game as it came out and making meta-progress togheter, solid sokoban with a nice story

Lost Planet 2 slaps, i forgot how much i liked that game

It's one of those games I pick up every so often to remind myself how bad I am at it. It's fun if you like to make your own trap sequences and all that, and Nightmare Princess is the version to get as it basically doubles the content. But man, I'm terrible at it. Cool game, though.

NTA but I have played Alisa and Crymachina. Coin flip's a good way to describe them. Alisa is jankkino, but unless you're hankering for a third rate survival horror you can wait for a sale on it.

Crymachina is a bit more complicated. It's one of those games where you know what you're about with it, kinda like Blue Reflection Second Light on that same 3x3. It's a spiritual sequel to a game called Crystar, a magical girl action RPG that plays like ass but has a pretty solid story. Crymachina shifts the setting to sci-fi, polishes up the gameplay to be...adequate, and dials up the yuri significantly. I liked it less than Crystar personally but I am in the stark minority on that opinion. Unless you "know what you're about", you should also wait for a sale on this one.

Quite liking Deathwish 2.0. Just wish I could find a way to fix that nblood bug where you stay on fire permanently because otherwise I need to keep savescumming in the event a hellhound spawns.

Gunfire is pretty neat but I feel like the difficulty has fallen off a cliff now that I've put a few hours into it. The only times I die are when I lose focus for a few seconds and run into traps but otherwise game's fun.

FitS is okay. I really like the concept but it feels like even with my trying my best to keep my deck as lean as I can I still end up with losing hands where I can't do anything but eat a loss, and while I dig the k9 handler and gunslinger classes their campaigns are really fucking annoying with Weapon of Choice having two minibosses constantly show up with more and more bullshit passives like dodging every turn, auto attacks, counters and advancing when you move. For a game all about having perfect knowledge of your enemy attacks and your attacks it's an extremely vague game and constantly has lots of noob traps.

Puzzle Spy International was fun. Just a bunch of fairly clever word puzzles that I enjoyed.

Total Chaos I'm not far into because I get spooked a lot but I feel it's more combat than actual horror, the buildup to monsters is scarier than the monsters themselves.

Pizza Tower is neat. Again I'm not that far into it but it's a fun ride and I really like the music.

Pipistrello was extremely fun and I felt it was a very solid 8.5/10.

Veil of the Witch I'm fairly mixed on. For a roguelite there just isn't much in the way of variety especially since maps and combat encounters appear to be reused between the various acts/level biomes. I bowed out when I unlocked a spearwoman whose entire character appeared to be "absolute cunt" because at that point I was 6 victories deep and she offered nothing new.

Blood West is a cool idea but actually exploring the maps eventually felt like a chore.

There are better games for a first timer but those are good ones.
Lots of driving games though you may wanna diversify a little, and Stephens Sausage roll is quite advanced for the standard puzzler.
I'll make you a 3x3 hold on.

I just binged a shit ton of mega man/mega man x this year
legends z-a is weird because I liked the base game enough but I don't think i'd recommend it purely because I hated the dlc

Well.... Routine did eventually get released, and I've read that the developers of Radio the Universe are indeed still developing the game, albeit slowly and without being very social about it.

surprisingly hard to make a good list for a newcomer, and some of these games may be on the hard side, while not having a great story, but i think these are the best places to start.
All famous games and odd choices like undertale to get you to also understand the kind of environment of the most popular stuff.

Damn, you played X7. Are you okay? And I see you don't care for the Card RPGs. Not judging or anything, I just have Star Force and by extension BN on the brain since the collection just dropped.

eh, I figured i'd play it at least once just to see how bad it was. It's genuinely impressive how nothing was done right, on top of it being the most boring game in the X series.
>And I see you don't care for the Card RPGs.
I've only played the classic and X series, anything beyond that is uncharted territory to me.

Mostly playing Gothic II atm.
I did a run of RE Requiem on Insanity without bonus items. The beginning with Grace is by far the hardest part, afterwards it becomes manageable.

you're not even original, you're even doing a shoddy job at copying onimai-fag's obnoxious "i'm better than you" attitude, just with an added twist of schizophrenia.
