model is just about fine, pretty cool. a nice step up from the hunyuan thing that was only just okay. the big jump is the texture quality, from complete garbage to not really offensive from the right angle. >AMD
You are asking if a microwave is sufficient for preparing fish cutlets; technically, yes, but you are choosing the most inefficient hardware that in this case is quite literally not coded for it to accomplish your goal. It's like trying to play new games on Linux, doable but it's the least optimal way to do it. Everything is coded specifically using/for CUDA which is an exclusive proprietary computing platform utilizing NVIDIA architecture, there are wrappers that can help your card talk to software but it's like using speakerphone on your grandma's cellphone through a bullhorn set up a few feet away from a crappy pair of walmart walkie-talkies to communicate. There's a Reddit thread from like a week ago where someone got Trellis 2 running on a 9070XT but it took 5 times as long as the operation takes on a standard 4080.. everything speaks tiny-cuda-nn or utilizes nvidia-centric rasterization kernels and when your card has to spend time breaking that down into a language that it can understand + equipment transfer speed you inevitably end up losing out.

That's a huge step up though, AMD users couldn't even do local image gen or set up a limited chat bot not too long ago.

and looks like there's a new one coming called meshtron https://developer.nvidia.com/blog/high-fidelity-3d-mesh-generation-at-scale-with-meshtron/ but idk if that's gonna be available for local use
>>
>>736414091
GET3D or Magic3D are their go-tos. https://research.nvidia.com/labs/toronto-ai/GET3D/
Edify is their commercial-end one for enterprise level operations and there is also NIM for Trellis, nVidia's proprietary compiler that allows you to squeeze a 4 billion parameter model onto local.
>>
>>736414242
Edgerunner is the NEW one anon. It's named after EdgeBreaker and it's formula that prioritizes the edges of models when weighting and categorizing data points on a model. It outperforms Trellis for smaller, more detailed renders and can also run on a smaller amount of VRAM due to Google math/nVidia tech but Trellis > for large meshes like buildings and shit

>>
>>736414398

meshtron hasn't been shared yet (?) and looks like it could be a further development on edgerunner but idk
>>
>>736414242
meshtron was nvidia's first pass at true generative modeling, the newest buzz about it is the official wrapper released that lets you run it on 10GB cards local meaning you can do AI retopology/gen on a 3080. https://developer.nvidia.com/blog/high-fidelity-3d-mesh-generation-at-scale-with-meshtron/
>>
>>736392912
Nta but I'm amazed nobody ever figured this out in the last 50 years. You can take a shit model and bump up it's polygon count but you cannot take a good model and lower it down for a LODs. And I mean automarically, not manually. I know technically there's no way for the software to know how to dumb it down, which parts to use, but still. AI CAN be good for some things.

Honestly, I'm impressed aside from the collar/sleeve's UV being messy it looks solid. It does make me a bit sad I've been spending on and off for the last two months familiarizing myself with blender to only be out done by machines but what can you do?
>>
>>736414497
>>736414242
they are sister projects, Edgerunner is the newer of the two but they serve the same purpose; retopology of mesh just one is meant for a smaller amount of faces and the other is meant for cleaning up larger ones. >>736414250 Get3D is the earliest iteration as it went public in 2022~
>>
>>736414665
Obviously you gotta keep with it, so you can finetune the end result of the AI to look pristine. I had to recently look into 3D modeling too, and also check out what sort of AI tools there are these days that just churn out a model for you from a picture, text prompt etc. They are pretty good, not perfect but they're getting pretty close to where you can make a 2D draft of some background object, throw that in and get a decent enough looking 3D model of it to basically throw in your game.

>>

>>
>>736414863
https://arxiv.org/abs/2603.05888 these guys are the closest right now to figuring out their math. If you can find any gits from them I believe their topology tool directly lists edgerunner weights as a direct dependency. If you search HuggingFace you might find them as well, but again just make sure the repository is associated with PixAR.

something AI will never actually be able to do. AI could reduce poly count, but only in a destructive manner. topology isn't just about reducing poly count, it is primarily the "flow" of the mesh, where some parts of the mesh is dense, and some is sparse, and how it shapes around different parts to ensure smooth deforms for animation, such as parts around the joins, all the while retaining evenly shapes quads, as few triangles as possible, and zero n-gons. all of these things require a manual process. there are many tools people have made to try and make the process easier, but there has never been a automated solution because it simply cannot be automated.
AI will never be able to achieve this simply because it does not think "why" topology is shaped the way it is.

>>736414665
I mean, you still need to know what you're doing with the model so not like the blender knowledge makes this obsolete
>>
>>736418327
to add to this. in order to help AI understand, you'd need to feed it paired data. the original high poly sculpt, and the retopologised mesh in order to tell the AI "hey, this is how this should be retopo'd into this". getting either of these at a scale to teach AI would be impossible, much less getting both paired together.
currently, AI is just fed ripped models. when you rip a model from a game, for example, you don't get either the original sculpt or the retopologised model. what you get is a compiled object file which is converted to a mass of triangles in order to be efficiently read by the GPU in a game engine, which is completely useless.
it's why you see those threads of "lol the 3d artists of this game are so bad", but all you're judging them by is a compiled object, not the original topology of their work.
>>
>>736392779
>Code monkey
Well sadly AI is not even close to coding, or modeling, or animating.
The most games use it for is sound and some textures or 2D graphics like a painting on the wall
Once AI can understand common code, then we'll take off
