To unlock the bosses just takes one run to the final area of that act but to unlock the next difficulty you have to fight 3 house bosses.It's partially the fault that I wasn't really holding on my retired cats because I was stupid. But still in that scenario that means I need to do 2 more runs to get the cats required after proving to the game that I can handle a run at that difficulty already.

The cat breeding aspect is fun and offers multiple ways to mitigate and control rng even letting you ramp up the rng, the combat is fun and has how many different ways to play each turn and control bad outcomes or get fucked by not properly anticipating outcomes which is good, this is how punishing games should be. Play a turn poorly and you can get wiped immediately. In between these you get Edmund's haunted house he threw together in ten minutes where every other door is a naked man jerking off. Even Darkest Dungeon offers more ways to mitigate the rng in the exploration, you can choose who interacts with the things and if you actually want to interact with them or not. In here it's just ok you enter the door ok roll d20 ok the BBEG flew away too bad. It's just a dumb interlude that interrupts the actual game.

I used the rain staff (leaves a large area of water tiles), entire team was stood IN THE WATER and did not heal at the end of the battle. It was odd, but ultimately did not really affect the run. There were no heal cancelling debuffs or anything of the sort, they did not even have the heatwave status since they were all stood in water. I guess it was just a bug but I don't know if I could ever reproduce it.

Late game Mewgenics struggles to find an appropriate difficulty curve because the breeding mechanics open the door to massive variances between the tools players will have on hand. In my experience, that creates some frustration/tedium when trying to gauge the "right" level of preparation needed for each run. Where do you want to be on the scale between full min-max and winging it? Kind of feels like a chore at times.

Getting them spayed/neutered adds several years to their lives, alone. Grew up on a farm, and we had several barn cats that lived to be 17-20 years old. And most of them were in great health until the last year or so. If one is going to die prematurely, they typically disappear within a year or two of being outdoors. Some of them have bad instincts (or maybe just bad luck).
