>>736393896Only monhun with a decent story that isn't too intrusive because they were held back from going full worldslop by the limitations of the system it was on. Fun characters, great monsters, and cool equipment too. However, like every monhun it also has its fair share of issues. Depending on how much you like the good parts and how much you dislike the bad parts, I could easily see this being somebody's favorite or least favorite game in the series.

A lot of moves weren't really that great and didn't have much purpose, even on the weapons that did have a fair number of moves. As a result most weapon's "Gameplans" was to just do the same 1-3 things the whole hunt. This isn't really bad because the monster + item management kept things more complex, but it did mean the combat was pretty simple.Then 4U came out and suddenly a ton of bad moves were given reasons to exist. Better damage, more stun/status application, moves interacting with ledges, some moves giving you armor during your combo, etc. This meant that suddenly a lot of weapons had way more skill expression. You didn't NEED to take advantage of all of this stuff, but it meant you now had way more reasons to use every tool your weapon gave you. With the difficult end game fights, you had a reason to take advantage of everything you could as well.Generations is actually pretty close to this too I want to add, but styles are kind of a mixed bag for people because even if something like Guild style had all the changes 4U added, you might feel pressured to play something like Valor style or whatever your weapon was most optimal with, which could ruin the playstyle of the weapon depending on what the style did. Definitely depends on the person + weapon though.Then World came out, and ironically, it dumbed down a lot of the weapons in a really backwards way. World added a TON of new moves to every weapon, which you think would make things more complicated, but the problem was that a ton of these new moves were blatantly better than a lot of the old moves, which resulted in things going back to how they were.
