The thing is seriously really powerful.
>>
>>736400982
Because macos has dogshit compatibility, like multiple times worse then even linux.
>>
>>736400982
apple doesn't really believe in games. I think they think videogames are bad for their image, so they would prefer their hardware and software be incompatible with videogames
>>
the apu memes still cannot emulate games at 4k with 60fps patches enabled so why should I bother
>>
Any fun exclusives?
>>
>>736400982
Shit compatibility, barely any ports, no 32 bit support and, well, arm cpus but funnily enough they have their own upscaler, metalfx
>>
>>736401074
I've never heard of any. Apple doesn't really do gamedev
>>
>>736401058
Capcom has a few official ports for the Resident Evil remakes but yeah like >>736401048 said, the compatibility for most games isn't there. Also it could just be that Capcom are just whores because they were willing to do PSVR exclusives as well. But it does show that Apple was willing to invest a little bit cause I doubt Capcom paid for the ports out of the goodness of their hearts. Also Apple made Apple Arcade for "real" (indie) games. It didn't go anywhere but it showed that they have some interest in games.
>>
>somehow worse compatibility than linsux
hmm I wonder why
>>
>>736400982
Macs are okay at emulation but have a shit native game library, for sub-$600 you're better off getting a Ryzen mini PC with one of the beefier iGPUs.
>>
>>736400982
Because it's not only arm, but also arm without fucking vulkan, so no proton
Massive hardware differences that would require billions worth of game dev time to port games to
And for what gains? Contrary to popular belief, apple silicon is completely unremarkable
Everything good about it is down to them using the most advanced silicon process nodes in the world because their goycattle will pay premiums for it anyway
>>
>>736401515
Apple is cheaper, more powerful and more efficient. You're the goycattle for trying to defend x86 jewish architecture.
>>
>>736401798
They're not cheaper, they're not more powerful and they're only more efficient because they're making low importance high margin toys so they can afford to waste money on bleeding edge silicon
x86 is for the white man and UEFI is your God given right that the jews at ARM are trying to take away
>>
It's an absolutely amazing computer. If you want to play actual PC games it's absolutely atrocious the compatibility is worse than pre-proton Linux.
However if you're like me and all you mostly do on your PC is use emulators, discord, watch videos etc it's a flawless experience and frankly better than any Windows machine you could possibly build, especially for the price I can't believe they're only $600. It's an unbelievably fluid and frictionless machine, everything is so snappy and fast and never stops being that way unlike my $3000 gaming rig that despite only being 2 years old is constantly having some type of issue and generally feels sluggish. Like I said I personally don't play newer games all that much anymore so I just chucked my gaming pc in the closet and only pull it out on the rare occasion I need it, I just use my mac mini for everything else and have a better experience doing so.
>>
Well, when games support it, let me know.
Same shit as linux, I really don't care until the popular games people play get support. Having to do hacky workaround bullshit to get games running is awfullllllllll
>>
>>736400982
You're absolutely right OP I should also get an AMD GPU for running local AI those are pretty cheap and powerful
>>
An M4 Mac mini with 32gb of ram and 2tb SSD costs $1800
For that price you can get a 9600x 9070xt build with that same 2tb SSD but not soldered and you're not sharing your 32gb with the gpu
>>
>>736400982
because valve hasn't even implemented their arm translation layer yet.
>>
>>736405103
Valve literally can't help them
Apple doesn't have vulkan
No vulkan means no proton
Simple as
>>
>>736400982
I have a Macmini and like it a lot as my main work computer, I’ve also used Macs for years and am a big fan of the ecosystem.

But it sucks for gaming, worse than Linux which actually is almost better than Windows atm. I game mostly on my Linux laptop
>>
>>736400982
it is literally, unironically, just a biiig mobile chip. you may as well do gaming on your phone. similar thermals I'd wager too. The M1 is literally just iphone silicon, e.g.

'The M1 has four high-performance "Firestorm" and four energy-efficient "Icestorm" cores, first seen on the A14 Bionic.'
>>
>>736400982
You use macs for productivity and work, you can game on them the same way you technically can game on an IPhone.
>>
>>736400982
Crimson Desert is playable on them and surprisingly runs great. I have the pro chip version with 24 gbs if that matters.
>>
>>736401048
Linux have better compatibility than modern windows thanks to proton.
>>
>>736402059
There is absolutely nothing you can do on a Mac Mini that you cannot do on a phone. You paid hundreds and hundreds of dollars for a web browser.
>>
>>736401048

Blizzard used to port their games to Apple's MacOS. They stopped for some reason.
>>
>>736400982
I've been considering a Mac Mini to have as a "work" machine so I can instal loonix in my actual PC and not have to worry about whether or not Clip Studio 1.0 works and such
But as competent as those little shits are, I don't think gaming is even a thing to consider besides maybe emulation
>>
>>736408119
I feel the same way and did exactly this.
Mac is my work PC and my linux machine covers all the games I usually play.

Only games I play on Mac is Minecraft with my kids.

>MacOS
AND THE REASON IS (YOU)
>>
Before you at least could dual boot into Windows for games. I remember also using Parallels to play a few games, but I did it for indieshit. There was some noticeable input lag. For emulation it was a mess. I had trouble with it just working fine on my high refresh rate monitor without stutters or weird shit going on. RetroArch had a plethora of bugs on it.
This is absolutely worthless for a lot of games that don't have native ports. Everyone's showing it running GTA V (2013 game) because it can go no further unless some corporations are nice enough to work on a native port.
Look, I'll be the first to switch to appleshit myself (because I actually don't dislike the OS) if it gets something like Proton on linux and doesn't require me to pay 70 bucks for a fucking license to a program to play, like I said, indieshit because it's just not capable. But as it stands it's just dogshit for this purpose.
>>
>>736406356
Linux doesn't have "better compatibility".
It has access to wrappers and compatibility layers that have better compatibility with older games. These can be used on Windows. It's just you'd be using these by default on Linux, whereas on Windows you're just not used to. Same with things like gamescope, Windows is able to run old games on fullscreen mode with fucked up resolutions on windowed/borderless modes, it just needs third party software to do it. But that's what gamescope is. It's just more popular.

>Gaming and 8k emulation
8k for emulating NES games. Gaming at 480p.
>>
>>736400982
cus it's not, even if we ignore compatibility, it's about as powerful as a 4050 laptop gpu
>>
>>736412495
>Linux doesn't have "better compatibility".
>It has... better compatibility with older games.
Really makes you think
>>
>>736414440
Everyone can see what you've responded to anon, are you ok up there?
>>
>>736400982
Last time I used a mac anything was like 2010 or something, hows translation layers these days for non mac programs, I'd be tempted to get a mac mini to mess with it but it's still pricey for something to toy with

>m4

Can't run 32 bit apps.
