If you watch behind the scenes they show 6 year olds footage of Jak and Daxter 1 and the kids say it is too childish. They would suggest it for 4 or 5 year olds. When they ask what game they were playing they said the same thing. Grand theft auto. So Jak 2 was a grand theft auto-lite

Naughty Dog's humanoid characters post-PS1 looked like bad How to Draw Anime books, I swear. It wasn't a problem with the more Animaniacs esque Crash visual style.

Main issue with Jak 2 isn’t edge but how the lush, beautiful, minimalistic world got replaced for a grimy dystopia. All the cartoony NPCs got replaced with crime lords, rebels and gestapo who chase you halfway across the map. The Eco element is gone in place of guns unless you count Dark Jak which lasts 15 seconds or ends when you do a powerful attack. Jak talks but alot of what he has to say is dour or blunt.

I feel like they should have had one or two levels set in the past before having the player time travel to the future. Ease them into it and allow them to see the old world one last time.

I just don't like driving through the city, too maze with few points of interests.
And all the vehicles handles like ass.
The game can be fun, when you actually get to the platforming missions though, I don't mind the addition of guns either, but getting to the good parts drags it down for me.

I recently replayed Jak 3 after 20 years. Holy fuck is this game barely held together by a poor excuse of a story. It's just a constant series of mini games with a few action platformer missions in between. Sure Jak 2 has a similar structure but the game is longer than 3 and gives you more action platforming levels to freely explore. The one year dev time is really noticeable for 3. There's still a good game hidden underneath all that you'd just need to cut 80% of the stupid mini game missions and design proper missions thst don't switch the solid mechanics for a stupid gimmick.
