nah, also oblivion is unironically a comedy game
>>
DD1 in the center with skyrim. faggot.
>>
>>736407718
I would have a bubble called "role playing" and pick all the games that let me live as either the created character or one of my own creation well in the world immersively. Most of the games on this chart suck horribly at that.
>>
skyrim doesn't have good gameplay. what a joke.
>>
I hate open world games. That said, give me Dark Arisen.

>get some great ingredients
>mix them all not following a proper recipe
>get slop as a result
this is exactly what skyrim is in that picture
>>
>>736408107
for that ill have to add CRPGS
and i haven't played many CRPGs
>>
>>736407826
It's the most balanced in the categories but certainly not the best
>pure gameplay is better than previous elder scrolls games but still not great
>writing is mainly coasting off previous games that built an interesting setting for it
>world is a very bog-standard open world
>>
>>736407718
>skyrim
>gameplay
what

also does your game truly belong there if people mod it to be near-unrecognizable and plays completely different as a default state of how skyrim is typically played
>>
Ah yes, skyrim and oblivion, very well known for their writing

My sides

Also Witcher 3 mogs all of these games easily besides KCD

Not saying Skyrim is a jack of all trades, but it’s a pretty well rounded experience compared to other games.
Also feel free to suggest other open world adventure games that belong in this chart
>>
>>736407718
>Oblivion has good writing
bait used to be believable
>>
>>736409265
Oblivion has some interesting concepts, same with Morrowind, but yeah the actual writing isn't all there.
>>
>>736407991
I'd put it in the upper middle. The world itself is not terribly memorable, but the gameplay and writing live rent free in my head.
I really don't get this misconception that being dialogue-heavy = quality writing. I wanted to fucking kill myself for 90% of TW3's cutscenes, which amounts to roughly 30 fucking hours.
>>
>>736407718
>I could entertain arguments for AssCreed Origins and maybe Odyssey having a good world but Valhalla is just shit
>Skyrim does not have good writing, either move it to world or at least the intersection of world/gameplay
>nothing about Skyrim’s world is all that different from Oblivion. Oblivion should definitely be moved to world/gameplay
>I’d move both KCD games to the middle. They have very immersive gameplay systems and I don’t think the writing is bad enough for them to go anywhere else
>Crimson Desert has shit everything, get rid of it.
>DD1 would be on the intersection between gameplay and world
That’s all I got atm
>>
what about Gothic, Kingdom of Amalur, Risen, Two Worlds, and Valheim
>>736409702
Based.
>>
>>736407718
Every single one of those games would have been improved a lot by adding a character creator in a free roam mode. And you all know that's true.
>>
>>736410032
Dragon's Dogma has a character creator and a free roam mode. Hell, they're both part of the story.
>>
>>736409857
>Gothic
Would orbit around the diagram because it simultaneously has great world, writing, and gameplay design while also being shit
>Kingdoms of Amalur
God of War but an action RPG: gameplay and only gameplay (deserves to be there more than the LotR games honestly)
>Risen
Never played
>Two Worlds
World/gameplay but most of the box should be covered up by Oblivion
>Valheim
World because I hate survival crafting
>>

I want more "Gameplay/World" games.

Gameplay/World > Gameplay > the rest in whatever order
>>
>>736410362
The thing is, exploration is subjective. Some people find RDR2 and KCD's empty fields more interesting than the theme parks of TW3, TES, and AC. And you also have people who say ER has terrible exploration, while I think it's some of the best

It has a lot more to do with what you find interesting
locations themselves, stories, encounters, or something else

This. Even otherwise linear games like Deus Ex or Thief have some excellent exploration imo.
>>
>>736407876
funny, because this picture could be applied to souls games, yet v will claim that souls games are the best thing ever
>>
>>736410518
Completely unorthodox answer here but I’m going to say Myst and Riven qualify, especially Riven. The puzzle gameplay in both *is* the world design.
Probably not what you’re looking for but I wanted to give a fun answer. If you want a boring answer then something like BG3, Prey 2017, or System Shock 2
>>
>>736410671
Sure.
>>736411005
Not what I was looking for, but it is an unorthodox answer that applies well in a different way.

>>

>It's fascinating how Skyrim is both undeniably the GOAT fantasy open world RPG and how much seething over it that causes.
That is only because of mods. However, I also believe that the moddability of a game should be taken into account when discussing its overall quality and Skyrim is inarguably the GOAT in that respect.

it really is crazy annoying how good ubisoft is at designing open world maps and how bad they are at filling them with anything
>>
>>736411903
I finished FC5 and still had Ubisoft Pass, so you tried WD Legion. And man, London in that game looks great even though it’s an obnoxious lib fest
>>
>>736411903
Ubisoft has always had some really talented people working for them, even with the brain drain they've been suffering over the past several years.
I picked up Splinter Cell and Sands of Time off GOG recently and its remarkable just how many good to great games Ubisoft used to make.
>>
>>736407718
Gameplay
Gothic1, 2, dragon's dogma 1 and 2 are the only good and fun open world game ever made
Nothing else matter
>>
>>736412398
Dragon Dogma is barely open world. There like 2-3 open zones
>>
>>736412542
Open world doesn't mean massive empty field with ubisoft style towers and subquest
Open world means you're free to explore most areas early on without progressing story

>Skyrim has good gameplay
>which has HP-sponge enemies, no copmbos, just button-mashing and an entire way of playing (most magic) being borderline useless, while also still allowing you to reliably stagger enemies at no cost, while doing almost zero magic
>Morrowind with combat, which is just as broken, but more fun, isn't part of the gameplay circle
>Skyrim which has typical Bethesda writing, where "everyone is right/has enough arguments to support them with no counter-arguments", so the player can always decide who they believe (it's gotten so bad in Fallout 4 that they can't even decide if Synths are Human or not, even though you can loot synth components, reprogram their entire personality, while still being flesh-and-blood Humans with fully Human personalities and no "convenient" way to check if they are synth or not)
>>
>>736407718
>Oblivion in gameplay
lmao
why are Obliviontards like this? why don't they ever acknowledge how dogshit that game plays?
>>
>>736419337
It should be on the outer edge of gameplay and deeper in the writing circle.
>>
>>736419405
it shouldn't be in gameplay at all. put it firmly in world and nothing else
no, the writing isn't good either lol
>>
>>736411903
>designing
That's the easy part
>filling them
There's no point to doing this, open world is just a playable filler level select where you occasionally pick up junk. This is why games like SotC are the only good open worlds.

No, it's fucking not. You’ve literally get every single fucking perk in the game at some point.
