>Crimson Desert pushing updates every few days, players request fun things and devs add it. Player count keeps rising
What fun things have the players requested that the devs were able to add immediately? I've never heard of a game that does that

Meh, I'm waiting for the Granblue Relink DLC
>>
Playing this game feels just like going to work. That’s because it was originally planned as an MMORPG but was switched to a single-player game halfway through development.
As a result, the game is filled with a ton of pointless, time-wasting quests.
Playing it is just as exhausting as going to work.
>>
>>736413371
That's crazy that game came out two years ago and is still getting content. It used to be a game was released and it was finished and that was that. If it got DLC it was something they planned from the start so it came out within a few months. Now they stretch it out over literal years somehow.
>>

Guys, i dont have social media, can someone tell the devs to add an auto-sheathe toggle? Also Kliff rests too damn close to bonfires, mf literally sticks his foot in the fire, and obviously you take fire damage, negligible, but still fucking annoying.

Real talk, why would they need to make a new MMO when they've already got Black Desert? Couldn't they just keep adding content to that one? I never understand why MMO companies keep making new games instead of continuously adding shit to the one they've got.
>>
>>736413484
That game is secondary to their actual money makers so they really can just go back and add shit whenever they feel like it.
>>
>>736413954
That's true in this case but I feel like it's happening for every game now, DLC two years later long after everyone has moved on instead of back when the game was actually new and people were playing it. I don't know if it's because games are taking longer and longer to develop or if it's some new strategy to increase longevity of the game that they've been seeing success with.
>>
>>736413294
From patch notes, I don't think they added "fun things", just stuff that improves the quality of life like extra teleports etc. Where do people make requests that the devs read?
>>
>>736414000
Usually the game is released a little undercooked and they have to work to fix it with multiple patches coming out for a while which sorta keeps people playing and coming back. While they're doing that, they work on a dlc slowly in the background. News comes out, the game IS LE ENGOODENED NOW!!!! and then BAM, new content dlc comes out
Sad but this is what works in the industry now
>>
>>736413294
>players request fun things and devs add it
Didn't they make the game way too easy because people kept being filtered?
>>
>>736414171
It's kinda depressing how No Man's Sky basically gave every other dev permission to do that, now every time a game is released shit you immediately getting people defending it saying "Give it a chance, they might be able to No Man's Sky it with patches!" I saw a post the other day about New World shutting down with someone saying he had hoped that would become one such game and begrudgingly admitting it never did.
The worst part is they usually don't even change that much about the game, tends to be more or less the same game it was at launch but maybe it runs better than it used to and suddenly everyone's talking about how they saved it and it's good now. Just look at Cyberpunk.

>>
>>736417010
How the fuck is a 150 hour game not worth $70? $2 per hour is an incredible deal.
>>
>>736413614
Most mmorpg companies just update their one game tho? And add expansions.
>>
>>736417143
Everything I've seen and heard about the game can be summarized as not worth full price. If the game requires multiple hours to get interesting its always a red flag.
>>
>>736417379
Depends what you find interesting I guess. I'm an open world enjoyer so I was hooked from the start.
>>
>>736417143
Not if most of those hours are spent doing things that are meaningless or unfun
A game is not worth time alone. Some great games are shorter than 10 hours and probably worth as much if not more. You can make a game that will make you waste 600 hours by just having many unskippable ingame cutscenes, endless fetch quests, a big map with collectables sprinkled all over and heavy grinding to get to the latter parts of the game without jobbing. More and more games by Ubisoft/EA and the like are harder to finish in a short amount of time because they like to bloat these games to death and make you spend absurd amounts of time as though it's a counter for quality. In many, many cases, specially in these trying times where everything, even fucking tennis games, turn into an open world adventure, less is more. This is like saying a higher team and more of a budget spent on making a game makes it worth the full price if not more than that. Not really. Make a good investment next time.
>>
>>736414502
>Toggle? Like how? He sheathes stuff in areas where no weapons are allowed
No i get that aspect. Auto-sheathe in those places are fine, though it is a little cringe, but im mainly referring to while out exploring. If i want to walk around the forest with my greatsword out, whats the harm? Sounds dumb, but i always appreciate the option for immersion purposes.
>>
>>736417521
IS there an open world tennis game? I'd play that one
>>
>>736417521
Why would you play this open world game in the first place if content sprawl isn't what you want? Why is this game even on your radar if you consider what it gives meaningless and unfun? I think procedural loot is meaningless and unfun, and there's bunch of games that revolve around the concept. I don't touch them, and I don't think about them.

In my view the game delivers exactly what it promises to.
>>
>>736413294
I don't give a shit about this game but after checking the steam chart it have better player retention than most modern multiplayer game KEK.
So the game must be doing something right I guess.
>>
>>736413762
BDO engine has its limitations from what I understand and the games reputation is down the gutter as a P2W grinder with no real endgame

I would love to see a new Korean MMO as good as BDO in its early days

There is a desert, but it's definitely not crimson. From chart in pic, probably closer to coral
>>
>>736417810
I'm just saying your metric for quality is weird. I think there's a number of games out there for $2 that don't waste your time with stuff like "go collect some timber" or "clean up that chimney". It's even stuff that procedurally generated content can replace without it losing much meaning. It's normal for games of this nature to have stuff like this, but it's precisely for that reason that "time spent" isn't a good justification for spending more money on it. Some could even find it a detriment (after all, time is money for the non-unemployed as well).
>>
The only problem is they've tanked the visuals and I don't see a single ounce of additional performance
>>
this game mindbroke western journalists so hard when it is just a based as fuck non woke game so all players love it and tranny hate it
>>
>>736419437
I bought this yesterday.
I don't know what's with the visuals. Everything has been oversharpened but I had no way of fixing that other than finding a random link somewhere for the very latest version of RenoDX for it (because the one linked in the RenoDX github made everything stupidly dark and the sharpening settings didn't work). I want to like the game, and I have no option to get a refund here, but the vegetation is some horseshit. The buildings at the distance look like cardboard. On a 9070xt which is the GPU that bundled this game as far as I know. "Cinematic" graphics are looking not much better than what I can get on Medium. I have a feeling something is genuinely broken in there. What's worse, I enable RR and it doesn't really look much better either, but the game goes from 110 to 55fps. Wonder what's going on.

To be fair making the desert literally crimson would basically be eye rape while exploring it. It'd be like wading through a Virtual Boy game.
>>
>>736419290
Leisure is subjective, so leisure times worth is also subjective. I see those menial quests as fleshing out the world, which you probably think is stupid. There's one quest early on where some poor lad got his cows stolen and house destroyed. Another one is where some cocky bastard had the horns of his goats sawed off. You do the quests and move on. Later on you can find both of these no-name NPC's in the town having mini-epilogues to their quests, one drinking with some lads and another being grateful to the goblin guild recouping the losses caused by their bad leader. There's also a camp quest for rebuilding the house of the cow farmer.

Small shit like this, it's fleshing out the world in my eyes. If you don't give a shit, then why bother?
>>
>>736420360
We have a real place called Red Rock and quite frankly it's not that red. I think it's ok for the name to not be literal as long as the idea is conveyed.

I prefer attack speed over everything but that's because right now I'm using 3 abyss gears that all proc off normal attacks so I just want them to proc more. I'm not even sure if abyss gears scale with attack and honestly the game doesn't do a great job even telling you what crit does like how much damage is a crit, how much crit % does crit even give. Meanwhile you can immediately feel the difference with stacking attack speed

Crit is my priority and will hit 15 as soon as I can get this weapon to max
tl;dr don't worry about it as you'll be able to get lots of both unless you dual wield in which case each weapon has its own crit/attack speed

It's why I like two handers. You can use the big defense shields that have shitty block because you're not blocking with it.
Longsword or spear is your choice; spear has an op counter but after using one for 100 hours I settled on longsword because I like it's animations and forward momentum spamming R2 more

Frankly, the only "filter" with the majority of puzzles were trying to figure out which highly specific of the million tools they wanted me to use, and overcoming the will to perform the simple but long and annoyingly slow sequence of steps required to get nothing more than a lousy skill point.

Speaking of highly specific puzzle tools, am I crazy or did the game never actually teach you that the light reflection stance can light fires? They introduced it all the way back at the beginning during the tutorial, but that was just to reflect light into a crystal to activate a thing (something I've not needed once in the last 50 hours and six chapters of play with a good amount of exploration), but never to light fires (which I've needed multiple times during two main quests, whereas the only method to light fires the main quest teaches you is by lighting arrows on a torch or brazier).

You have to be a very specific distance away, and the bow has to be in a specific aiming animation. For some reason, the arrow also never looks like it's burning while it's in the fire, but does burn when you move it away. It's all quite janky.

It's increasingly irritating because when you are in the idle stance with a bow in your hands, you can get the arrowhead EXACTLY into the small brazier fire but in that idle stance the arrow apparently doesn't really exist and it won't catch fire even though the tip is in the flames

You only need to destroy the one in the church when the objective pops up. Traversal isn't bad at all in this game considering that the most you'll maybe ever have to travel is like 10 minutes on a sprinting horse across the map while carrying a bandit on your back. For everything else, there's teleports everywhere, plus you can go up into the Abyss and drop down like as if you jumped out of a plane and fly anywhere.

Yes, I agree. But an opinion of a person who didn't even finish the intro is not an opinion worth listening if you want to actually learn about the game and not the intro.
The game has countless flaws and is infuriating at times but it's still the most fun I've had in ages in vidya.

>>736428047
Someone finding something so egregious in a game that they drop it within a couple hours are much more telling opinions than those by people who have wasted 120 hours of their life playing the game. Their opinions matter just as much as each other and should both be represented. You used the most favorable metric you could find for this game and you still barely cracked 90%. That doesn't sound like a goty contender to me.

Anon, I've played the game, you don't need to lie to me. The map is really fucking empty. Most of the "points of interest" are just a cluster of houses with generic nameless NPCs milling about and maybe a generic store whose most valuable good on offer is a small bag. The puzzles are okay, but barely worth the reward as skill points quickly lose any value, making the notion of going the extra mile for shit like the "hunt these murals all over the map" puzzle ridiculous. Unique weapons or armor pieces are few and far between outside of quests, and rarely even worth going for, as not even all of them have some unique property/gear attached.

Traversal is acceptable now, and it got to that point after being patched twice so flight is actually usable while still requiring a pretty substantial investment into stamina. Taking in bounties is incredibly arduous and boring, and trading with the cart even more so. But that also doesn't address my core complaint that you can traverse vast distances of the map without really coming across anything that feels like it was worth exploring for. Even as far as vistas are concerned, the game's pretty thin. The cliffs and grasslands quickly look the same after a while, as do the generic hovels and homesteads. You have to travel pretty far afield to get something fresh to look at.

I don't know what to tell you. I love open world games and feel like this is definitely the best one I've played in a decade. The last one that allowed me to just fuck off in a random direction and continually discover a bunch of stuff was 15 years ago in Skyrim. The loot not being super rewarding has to do with their design decision of making it so that stats on gear is similar, so that it becomes more of an RPG-lite and it lets people wear whatever they want. It's one of those either you despise it, or you don't mind it, kind of things.

If CD had The Witcher 3 writing and all the bosses were Souls-like, it would unironically be a 10/10 game for me.

Most of the so-called life-skills like trading wagons and farming is lifted from BDO. It's cheap and fast and gives you something infuriating to do to pad out the content.
No need for any LLM bullshit platitudes for that kind of design since it exists already in their old game and frankly the design feels just as old in CD as BDO

Keyboard and mouse is infinitely better than controller for this game. Not only can you rebind everything, so that if you don't like having to press combo buttons like it's a fighting game, you can literally just set it to 1, 2, 3, 4, but you also don't have to shit where every button has 3 different actions depending on context, like controllers do.

Not sure if it matters but I've had nvidia reflex turned on in settings since day 1 and controls always felt responsive to me. The double jump does still turn into gliding sometimes though.
>>
You know, I always mocked Skyrim for having no quest design other than "go into this dwemer dungeon/draugr tomb", but Crimson Desert might actually be worse. All it has is "extremely long and boring walk & talk that ends nowhere near the quest objective, then go somewhere else and fight a couple waves of chaff", only shaken up by the rare "run all over and listen to a million dudes drone on through unskippable and boring dialogue before answering a bunch of questions", which is somehow even worse. Yeah, Skyrim's quest design is abysmal, but at least it's usually over quickly and doesn't waste my time listening to some faggot go on and on about an irrelevant part of their gibberish story.

>>
>>736429115

Double jump is fucky because of how it's coded, not because of inputs. It will work 100% of the time if you are standing still AND on a flat surface. As soon as you are NOT on a flat surface and/or inputting something else at the same time, it has a chance to just not work.
>>
>>736429196
Anyone who played BDO will recognize CD's quest design and writing. Except for a few story quests with proper cutscenes, it's basically the same. Except in this game they don't let you fully blaze past the text by mashing one button, and there's no auto navigation for mounts.
>>
>>736429064
Designed with for controllers to be used. You need concert pianist level finger dexterity to play it on kbm.

>>
>>736428614
what armor?
>>
>>736429295
>You need concert pianist level finger dexterity to play it on kbm.
You can literally rebind anything to anything. Don't like having to hold shift + left/right click for a combo? You can just rebind it to the 1 button and then press 11111 repeatedly. This can be done for everything, to the point that you can use everything in sequence by just pressing 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.

You can make it as hard or as easy as you want.
>>
>>736429282
>there's no auto navigation for mounts
You can hold A to auto-follow during the walk & talk segments, but since most NPCs elect to move infuriatingly slowly, it barely helps.
>>
>>736429274
Also flat surface and standing still isn't enough if you're next to a wall that can be climbed. The double jump input doesn't register as double jump, it just makes you try to grab a hold of the wall.

But instead I have to listen to Yann or some other faggot piss and shit for hours as they very slowly ride to a far away point that's still half a mile from the actual quest objective. When I finished the long battle at the end of chapter 6, I almost closed the game then and there when it insisted that instead of teleporting to the fucking beacon myself, I had to follow this soldier cunt on horseback and listen to him yammer on about nothing. It does fail the quest, but it doesn't matter. Once you light the beacon it just skips past the "follow this guy" quest entirely.
It seems you can do this a bunch of times even if it's undocumented. There's a quest before the war where you're supposed to report to the beacon on the way first. I just didn't do that and went straight to the calphade camp, and the game skipped ahead.

That's never going to meaningfully change. Holding R2 solves most of the Dynasty Warrior-esque crowd fights no problem, with only elites maybe requiring an actual move, but not really. Bosses are about half gimmick fights, so while you can use more attacks there, there's a very good chance they'll just be immune or no-sell whatever special property the attack has (like the grapple on stab and such). The combat system in this game is very utilitarian, and you basically have to decide to make it harder on yourself, but then use shit like the grappling moves and such.

The game's just weirdly stingy with armor. You can find boss sets, but they're generally scattered far and wide throughout caves, merchants only sell one set each per region, and farming enemies for their sets takes fucking forever because they mostly drop broken equipment.
>>
>>736429863
>also am I just doing something wrong or are there barely any armor/weapon upgrades early on
You gotta explore to find shit. Like 90% of the gear in this game comes from caves, waterfalls, puzzles, and boss fights.

The generic enemies in Hernand are almost always bandits. It only changes a little once you get to Pailune and some of the enemies will clothesline you or use elemental attacks, then in Demeniss where enemies are too tanky to just spam attacks on and they come in massive hordes

But I think fighting the generic mooks is mostly a power fantasy, like that's your place to express how you want to fuck these enemies up rather than fighting to survive. Chapter 6 has a fun segment that's exemplary of this

Will be playing ER when it releases.
Marvel tokon in august
GTA6 later this year.
Decent year for vidya.
Shame RE9 was a bit of a let down but still worth playing.
Will finally play the pragmata demo at some point and play the game next year I guess.

Cyberpunks core ssytem changed. They redesigned all the skills and how it works, plus it dropped with the DLC.

What I mean is what area the main story is driving you towards.
I of course know the game is go wherever you want though ironically faction/side quests only open up per story progress.
What i am asking is what is the devs intended exploration.
Point is I was in chapter 5 I think and it had me go to deminiss chasing crow caller, then it sht straight to chapter 6 and I am in calphade fighting a massive battle. i didnt get any time to explore deminiss and now in chapter 7 (the start) it has me heading towards north of demeniss while now there is side content in calphade.

it is clearly obvious that the chapters take place in certain areas of the game world and that is when you should be exploring that area, so I want to know what areas each chapter is the story taking part.
Chapter 7 looks like its pailune.
Where is chapter 8 onwards taking place/
Does the story take me back to demeniss?

Define "better". Most open worlds generally fall flat precisely because they fail to utilize the vast expanse of terrain they bravely laid out before thinking about how to fill it with actual content.
Dragon's Dogma is for me unsurpassed in rewarding exploration. You can climb around and do weird platforming or balancing acts along janky terrain, and more often than not you'll eventually find something there - gold, a potion, a chest. Just a touch that is both a small reward, but more importantly a sign that some level designer looked at the map, realized you could theoretically path here or there, and then put something there, just as a little "good job, man".
You'll probably not like my next answer: The Horizon games. They're more compact with less wasted terrain, more varied environments, and the "random" combat encounters are generally more involved and thus interesting, partially because the combat is just decently fun, partially because there's almost always a use for the loot you find to improve your character slightly.
I also really liked Outward. It's jank as hell, but it makes traversal interesting because just going out is a commitment that requires preparation and resources, you have to actually learn the map and layout of the terrain to traverse effectively on account of the map not showing your location, and everything that looks interesting from afar generally has something worth fgoing there - a unique weapon, armor piece, or rare crafting components, if it's a bigger area, potentially multiple.

>>736430693
I'm on chapter 9 and I think that's when you're supposed to explore Demeniss. Before that it's crawling with big patrols of hostile soldiers and none of the shops are open, now everything seems accessible.
In chapter 9 you get moved beyond Demeniss a bit.

There seems to be an intended way for each chapter on what you are supposed to be doing. Chapter 5 was full on camp shit, 6 full on calphade and I expect 7, maybe 8 being full on pailune then.

What i am essentially doing is mapping out segments of the map and exploring in kind of small grid areas. I know things open up later with story progress I just want to fully explore the map myself and before moving on with the story.
Obviously not ringing the bells either.

It doesn't make any sense but makes sense later. The game is written so everything appears to be cryptic nonsense but like 80 hours later you go "oooooh oh yeah".

When you kill a sanctum boss like Antumbra's Staff for instance, the voice of Ator will say some cryptic zanzibart like bullshit to the boss as he dies. It's actually directions to find a superboss. "seek that far ridge where the storm-lord never sleeps" is directions to find Beloth the Darksworn. He's on a remote plateau permanently covered in blizzards.

did they the original utility of the arm upgrades? gorilla arms=ignore strength checks for walls/doors, mantis blades=wall traversal, cyberwire=mid-range ignore hack checks. Did they make stealth fun and rewarding? did they make non-story gameplay more than just spamming generic bounties in each district to unlock the cars? did they implement the monorail system for in-universe fast travel? did they add full third person gameplay? aka, all of the things that the game was initially supposed to have and shown off, but was cut because the devs are pathological hacks.

If you don't want spoilers from here, you could always start the next chapter, see where it takes you and then return to complete the previous area's side stuff. The game seems heavily front loaded for Hernand, but I'm only at chapter 10 which takes Kliff to (play) Crimson Desert.
If I ever start a 2nd playthrough, I'd slow down the mq progress and level up gear and skills for a power fantasy experience
>>
>>736431316
U mean the sky islands? The main quest will occasionally take you to one of the spires (fuck tall towers) with a puzzle, then they will send you up to a new area up there that you couldn't otherwise reach. From there, you do a few of those puzzles until you can't no more, then continue the main quest, and so on.
I shamelessly resort to guides, because sometimes the janky controls don't do what I intend, and the correct solution is a matter of repeatedly doing the same thing until it happens. BTW force current skill is superuseful for all those "slam a thing into a slot" tasks, like sanctum pillar heads which are in awkward locations. Also, make sure your particle quality is not set to 0, else you won't see the green leaves flying around items ready to be punched in
>>
>>736431405
Are there higher tier siphon mods? I can't combine 2 lvl 1s to make a lvl2, and they don't seem to make much difference in how many attacks I can output before I have to take a moment to regain
