Doom 2016 translated classic doom to a more modern feel, which worked but it became repetitive.
Eternal increased the speed and added tactics, that made it far less repetitive but also a lot more exhausting. the downside of eternal was the plot.
Didn't play dark ages but it looked like they removed everything that made eternal good and doubled down on everything that made it bad.

Not at all, it's time to upgrade anon. Unfortunately if you really want to be safe with laptops your best bet is probably 5070ti and it can't really be a justified purchase unless you're constantly on the go. Even mobile 5090 is weaker than desktop 5070 so the fall off is insane after 5050 which actually performs better than its desktop variant. You're honestly not missing out on much, for modern standards this is an 8/10 game but like a 4/10 Doom game. I started immediately from Nightmare, ignored the sliders and I truly got the combat loop on mission 16/22 so there is fun to be had but it is definitely easier than any other Doom. I miss when nightmare difficulty actually added interesting gimmicks like in classic Doom and Doom 3, not it's just damage goes up.

Doom 4 was a boring slog and only retired boomers will argue otherwise, it has neither the atmosphere or Doom 3 or combat of Eternal. It's a game you pretend to like because your DPS potential is absolutely absurd against mindless enemies and the movement is so slow you don't require any reflexes.

2016 was a simple game, "here's some guns, there's some demons, you do the math" with maybe 2 story cutscenes and everything else being optional fluf

eternal comes of as a game made by ppl that were bitter that most players ignored their contribution to the first game so now you have to use certain guns on specific demons unless you want to be fighting against the game as well as the demons and you'll sit down and listen to this "epic story" we've written and you'll like it.
also most gameplay additions add little to nothing and would've ended up ignored if it wasn't for the game screeching at you that every tool has a purpose.

dark ages just took everything eternal did wrong and doubled down on it.

2016 is great, it's like they went back to Quake and Halo and made them more arcade-like and fast.
Eternal is also good, it doubles down on a lot of elements of the first in ways that some people might not like but which are very solidly designed in themselves.
Dark Ages is genuinely baffling though. It's like they looked at the two prior games, lauded for eschewing trends and tropes and just delivering a solid and well-considered gameplay experience first and foremost; and decided they needed parries, semi-open-world sections (i.e. filler), cinematic QTE sections, and the fucking Accessibility sliders that invalidate any difficulty setting you choose.
Story-wise they really lost the plot with Eternal, and even more so in DA. 2016 had a story, sure, but I think they were self aware enough to know that many players wouldn't care about it and thus kept it kind of minimal (obligatory John Carmack porn analogy)

2016 was good simple fun. Very painkiller and shadow warrior 2013 inspired, but did it pretty well all things considered.
Then Eternal decided to insist upon itself with the overtuned gameplay and attracted the most annoying fans to the franchise.

its not just mick gordon, its everything, from ambient sounds to weapon sounds

the worst parts is they removed demon spawn sound, so i died most by getting hit by an enemy that casually spawned behind my back
in eternal when demon spawned it was loud with and distracting, and that was the point, to make you know where enemies are

designers of dark ages clearly didnt understand eternal sound design
