Just why ?
>>
I almost always think bloom and rim-lighting looks pretty even though it's usually not realistic
>>
The film industry. Unironically. Suits wanted games to be more cinematic so developers included cinematographic technology onto it, such as Ray Tracing.

I'm starting to think I've been wrong to turn off depth of field in Fromslop games, having the rally distant stuff blurry probably looks much better.
It's often ugly as is (before Elden Ring).

Ray Tracing has been anti-cinematic. Devs no longer light their scenes deliberately for effect, they just trust the ray tracing to make it realistic.

Okay, but the ray tracing IS there. Thank you based Film Industry for solving lighting. Now that our computers are powerful enough to render it in real time we will continue to piggy back off of your development and charge gamers for shit they never asked for.

Zoomers and console players like it.

They're checkbox every aaa developer had to fill just like how frame gen, upscaling and rtx are so common in every game
Nvidia pay them alot for this

> Suits wanted games to be more cinematic
I hate that
I hate it when a game takes more than 15 minutes to start
I hate it when a game interrupts me every 30 seconds,
I hate it when a game forces me into non-gameplay phases like following an NPC while they're talking
I hate to PLAY, not to WATCH
>>
>>736423689
I just tried playing Monster Hunter World, impossible.
The cutscenes are impossible to skip, the NPCs are unbearable, the sequences are just on rails listening to them talk, and after 30 minutes I still haven't been able to hunt a single monster. I just want to HUNT MONSTERS, let me loose in the forest and let me play, damn it!

It's not film industry related though. Films don't use realistic lighting because it's actually not as dramatic and interesting. Ray tracing is so shit BECAUSE it doesn't try to do film industry stuff anymore, and when you turn it off you don't get back what was lost because there's nothing baked-in.

>wear glasses
>have to put up with bloom and dust and flares and chromatic abberation as a fact of life
>enjoy games with sharp clean graphics because I can finally see 20/20 without aid of 1800s technology
>dip fuck shit ass niggerfucking game devs add in fake bloom and lens flare and motion blur and dof, whack the contrast out and color tone everything to make it more cinematic
>every game looks to me like the player char is just wearing dirty glasses, has glaucoma, and the game now requires an insane amount of graphical horsepower only to make things even harder to see.
>>
>>736423036
Depth of field and vignette are the ones I really don't understand. It's just seeing less of the game. Do normalfags even like this shit? I know they like motion blur.
>>
Chromatic aberration for me is the worst shit ever conceived.
I don't like that in my fucking photos. Why should I want it in my fucking games? No it's not "soul". It's garbage. It makes every single god forsaken game that has come out with it worse. Every single one. When Deus Ex: MD came out and I saw that it had this option, I was genuinely irked by it. How many more games would come out with this option? Well it turns out, some games have it FORCED and you can't disable it unless you use mods.

Like Crimson Desert.

>>736423036
most of these are fine except chromatic aberration
>>
>>736424949
fog isn't
>>
>>736425050
It depends on how far
Something kilometers away shouldn't really look crystal clear.
>>
>>736425150
this is why I hate nu zelda, can't see shit, fog is everywhere
>>
>>736425290
They have to cover up the fact a lot of shit at the distance is 2D, just "cleverly disguised". You'll find many games that do this sort of stuff.
Instead of gaytracing they should have focused on getting rid of distance pop in and making things at the distance look populated.

to mask the shit graphics
