Why did these type of action games die out
>>736429373>to much mechanical depth>actually difficult on higher difficulty settings>ranking system makes casual have bad fee fees when they get D/Stone/Ninja Dog rankson the whole the video game market is not interested in single player games with deep combat mechanics. they want "le experiences" or ebin "PREPARE TO LE DIE" shit they can watch on twitch.
too hard. embrace dodge rolls and gratuitous parries
Replaced by Soulskino formula
>>736430083but isn't that completely different?
>>736429373To braindead for hardcore(souls)gamers and to hard for casuals
>>736430083ThisSouls are the natural evolution of action game and only luddite disagree with meDmc/ng/bayo like are to primitive and become obsolete
>>736429373Short campaigns and complex combat systems.People don't even finish the games the buy nowadays so a single player game that relies on mastering mechanics by replaying the game over and over will inherently be niche.
>>736429373Yeah I bet they died out so badly there wasn't a sequel to one of those released last year.
>>736429373Most studios lack the talent to actually make fun stylish action games, let alone animate itThat's like asking >Why don't we get more MonHun-likes?Most studios figured out they're just not capable
You gotta understand that when Ninja Theory made DmC: Devil may Cry, they tried their hardest. They had some insulting opinions about the old games, but they really did the best they could to make a game that was even better than them. And everyone fucking HATED it. It's way too hard to make a decent action game that the fans actually like, and only a handful of people in the industry seem to even know how to do it. So no one even bothers throwing their hat in the ring anymore.
>>736429373lack of pvp
>>736429373If you mean PS2 Era Action games (which is honestly a far better name than CAGs, Stylish Action, FAGs, Cuhrayz, hack n slash, etc.). As for the guys saying that it's too much mechanical depth, honestly overestimate how much these 3 games (as well as a couple more) carry the genre. Like, sure we jerk off to DMC and NG but truth is, not evey action around the same period has that same depth or complexity. For instance, been playing Sword of Etheria has quite the basic combat, and the level design is pretty much hallway/arena/hallway. Otogi has a pretty basic combo that is your bread and butter for combat, and everything else is more movement than anything.Truth to be told, Souls showed a more appealing way of making games, and i don't only mean stuff like having bosses autism over combo autism. Think of it this way, Souls are to Action games what Metroidvanias are to 2d Platformers. Why have levels when you can show off your interconnected world with passages, bonfires and stuff. Basically, this is a very long rant to say that honestly the biggest characteristic linking all these games is that they are structured with levels, missions and objectives, whereas souls games have more of an open-ish world where the player explores and gets lost. Not to say you can't have classic combo autism in an open enviroment, but that is more of an outlier.
>>736429373These games are shallowly difficult. Mechanical depth and styling on enemies is fun for a while but anyone can do it. It's the safe haven of people who are good enough to possibly play competitive games but they don't play competitive games because they don't want their egos being hurt. Singleplayer games are their refuge. This is why you never see prominent character action game or even shmup figures online (mork, mike god hand guy) actually stream their gameplay, they ALL post curated footage of their achievements if not just lie about their prowess. Their feats have the exact same value as someone beating dark souls with a guide open on their second monitor (i.e: zero)
>>736430698And now even Capcom forgot how to make Monster Hunter.
>>736432636Go ahead and stream yourself beating DMC3 Dante Must Die if it's that easy.
Does anyone know why NG4 sometimes won't register stuff like untouchable in the chapter list? I've beaten chapter 16 twice in a row now with untouchable being acknowledged on the ranking screen, but it's still not ticked off in the chapter list. This has been a thing since release and they haven't fixed it. Fucking unacceptable.
>>736429373Devs believed they were too hard I suppose, look at how the actually fucking added yellow paint to ninja gaiden 4. They think everyone is a 75 IQ subhuman
>>736429373Because they are bad>>736429776It’s the opposite, there is no depth to these games at all
>>736429373Because they are fun for one playthrough, but only truly appeal to people who explore it's mechanics and secrets through replay. The average person will get it's ass kicked relentlessly and thus , the game won't be known or sold among normies.
>>736429373The games were too hard for the average person. Literally.
>>736429373I think it's because they are seen as button mashers, and you can definitely play them as one if you don't care about score. The good part of the game is not obvious.
>>736433486The games aren't bad. And they have incredible depth. But the core mechanics are hard for normal people to get immersed in, and it's something you have to be somewhat autistic about to want to spend time understanding/mastering.
>>736434847Will have to take your word on that one, anon. I don't play furry shit.
>>736429373They are seriously difficult to design and develop, and most players don't want mechanical depth or high difficulty in their video games.Capcom searched for a middle ground with DMC5 where the game retained deep and complex movesets/combos but without being difficult, and it resulted in by far the most successful game in the genre, but it STILL wasn't successful enough to warrant a sequel.
>>736429373They're hard to make well and to play well, and they can be drastically different from one another. NG, DMC3, God Hand are all distinct. There's no Final Fight of character action which was so good, the whole genre is still defined by it.
>>736435063And the DMCs before that had big difficulty in terms of beating the game?.. Go replay them now when you're no longer a toddler.
>>736431725About comparing them to souls design, since those are a hybrid genre it's trickier to compare them directly (despite the camera perspective and superficial similarity). Even in DS3 for example where rolling became more emphasized than ever, you can fight Nameless King like a jrpg boss by equipping lightning resistance and a shield.
>>736430083Soulslop isn't action.>b-butIt's not action.
>>736433486Post your DMD clear.
>>736435063>it STILL wasn't successful enough to warrant a sequel.i think a sequel is coming, the director of the last one left so they got to find someone else
>>736435635No, but I would say DMC5 is the easiest game in the series. Really there's only two or maybe three fights in the game where the enemies try earnestly to kill the player.
>>736436016Its rpg action that evolved from D2 and PSO
>>736429373Bigger ones the size of DMC maybe. But I still find bite size games like this from time to time.
>>736429838dmc is full of enemies that just stare at you while you do your wholesome chungus epic SSS combos>b-but muh donte must die modegames should be judged by their normal difficulty i shouldnt need to go to ng+ to have fun
>>736429373Ninja gaiden 4 came out last year and it's fucking great.DMC5 is still great. Bayonetta 1 & 2 are awesome. For me, it's vanquish. Wish I played it sooner.
>>736436679>games should be judged by their normal difficulty i shouldnt need to go to ng+ to have funwhy?
>>736438102Not that guy but if you weren't entertained the first time why would you keep playing?
>>736438102why do i need to play revengeance twice to unlock the difficulty that matters?
>>736436627I would've kept playing this if it had just been boss fights, too much fluff for little return
Just played through the first set of bosses in Malicious Fallen, definitely a slept on throwback to PS2 style action.
>>736432745I mean you say that, but look at the production quality in the combat and animation and lmk who's matching themsure as shit no else is trying
>>736429373Some will say the audience isn't there. Idk, I think it's worth considering that the talent and inspired innovation is what's missing. What new place can you even take DMC or NG?
>>736429373You didn't buy them
>>736429373Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden were 2 different Evolution from what we saw in the PS1 era ,but a single developer named From Software decided to reject Evolution and go back to basics. It proved extremely succesful and the games were extremely easy to make and copy.Meanwhile DMC clones were always sloppy. And thats all.I myself was at one point a "casual" Ninja Gaiden fan Who just played the Game once on normal and thought >Cool Game lets move on to another GameOnly for many years later replaying the games over and over again and realizing just how fucking deep the combat is and how fun It is.The sad part? There are no other games like It.
They basically need to be nigh perfect and hit hard on every level and not just gameplay in order to justify for people the idea of spending full price for a 5 hour game even if it has good gameplay.
>>736438361The shittiest one? Hard is hard enough for a first playthrough and Very Hard is exactly as the name implies.
