caves of qud is probably one of the most retarded games i've played and i'm mind boggled how it has an overwhelming reviews. too many rng nonsense and you get killed by the smallest things more than the deadly/threating types. Unreal World. Surviror rougelike in Bronze Age Finland where anything and everything might kill you. Winters are brutal, summers are risky because wildlife is more likely to roam, and every bit of the land you claim is earned with your own characters grit and determination to thrive in the wilderness. There's a beauty to it. Even religious elements feel authentic, and lean into an older understanding of how the cosmos worked. Leaving a fish for the ancestor spirits and woodland spirits might give you a better catch because of your gratitude. Having a woman in a nearby village walk over your fishing net will also help. Mounting a bear skull on a tree helps free it's spirit and ensure it harbors no malice.

Both have pros and cons.
Muties don't have to pray to RNGesus for cybernetics, you can just get anything you need during character creation and then build up on that or play the mutation lottery if you feel ballsy.
Chimeras in particular are the kings of melee even after the multiple nerfs, and Espers can align with the Seekers of the Sightless way to get free mental mutation at zero risk involved, you only need a couple of love injectors.
TKs start "weaker" in the sense that character creation doesn't give you everything you'll ever need, and they need more expertise in terms of exploits but can also powergame way harder, they are also the kings of guns and if you really wanna powergame you can roll relatively safely for mental mutations with Brain Brine, or if you hate yourself grind for hours and try to abuse Gamma Moths so you can get the best of both worlds and become the super moon king.

Me, I prefer TKs because of the comfort of being able to swap whatever implant I need, muties can't really replicate Punchkins either and TKs are way better than muties at abusing certain mechanics like temperature changes for vaporization builds or permafreeze, Esper TKs are also relatively safe to build and are much better than pure Espers if you wanna dedicate the time to grind.
Muties are much better to pick up and play though because again, you can get anything you need during character creation and the rest is just leveling up and getting decent gear.

Depends, things like Multiple Arms, Phasing or teleportation are a massive net gain regardless of your cybernetics, I don't think playing the lottery is worth it though, you can spend the same amount of time farming bits and crafting a shitload of phase conjugate e-nukes but to each their own.

Well yeah, it's a lot of effort for not much payoff compared to other things you could be doing.
I prefer just having the option of getting them versus Mutants as far as I know never being able to use cybernetics.

Also, speaking of it, I finished jupiter hell last year, and one thing I thought is that difficulties absolutely don't belong in rogulikes.
Ruin the surprise and sense of achievement. It also introduce several layers of bullshit to a genre that is notoriously difficult to balance.
