As an autistic millennial who prefers the classic, fixed-angle RE games, it took me years to overcome my hatred of Resident Evil 4. The original RE4 is literally one of the worst games EVER made, and is perhaps the ONLY action game which controls worse with a mouse and keyboard than it does with a controller. Leon moves like a Lego man, and the gameplay is like trying to spread frozen butter on a slice of bread. Fans of the original RE4 may be right that they removed some of the SOVL from the game, but I don't give a FUCK about ANY of that. The remake of RE4 is mechanically smooth, the action is perfect, and the gun + knife gameplay makes it infinitely replayable. The original is for knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing, cave-apes with Parkinsons disease, sorry but not sorry.

There was obviously an effort to keep a lot of the same enemy moves, but they had to change them to automatically track the player, who can move around much more freely in the remake. This means you don't have to worry about enemies closing in around you at all, because you're expected to be flying around and weaving through them anyway. One of the coolest things about the original was how enemy attacks were tailored to work with the movement system. If you knew how to play well, you could make small adjustments to handle enemies swinging at you and counterattack. No such subtlety in the remake, unfortunately.
