Am I weird for not understanding why everyone's saying the story is bad? I just finished chapter 7 and while it could use a bit more exposition here and there to clarify some things, it's considerably better than what passes as a main quest in your average Bethesda game.

I don't get it either, it's as bad as any bethesda game and better than games like elden ring which have actually no story to speak of, maybe because games like witcher 3 set the bar so high?
Personally I skip all cutscenes in every game ever anyway so I don't give a shit, this game annoys me because I can't skip cutscenes.

It's the most by the bones generic story out there.
Bethesda's stories might not be better per say but at least they have a bunch of memorable characters not just in the main story but on side quests too.
Even Kliff barely counts as a character. The dragonborn has more charisma and is more memorable than him.

>It's the most by the bones generic story out there.

Eh. It's a pretty fun DnD campaign that has just enough weird quirks of Asians writing western style fantasy to be compelling. Other than that, it does to its story what it does to its gameplay, basically just taking from other works in the genre and trying to put its own spin on it.

>Bethesda's stories might not be better per say but at least they have a bunch of memorable characters not just in the main story but on side quests too.

I do no agree with that. I can barely tell you what a single characters personality in Skyrim or Fallout 4 is besides their role in the story. And even in Oblivion and Fallout 3 I remember maybe one or two who for being the gimmicky annoying comic relief like Moira or the Adoring Fan. Character writing is something that Bethesda is just utterly incapable of.

CD's not much better, mind, mostly on the virtue of moving from on from them so quickly they don't get time to develop but at least I can remember some of the Greymane guys and the more flamboyant villains.

>Even Kliff barely counts as a character. The dragonborn has more charisma and is more memorable than him.

I don't mind the guy. He's a generic gruff warrior but occasionally he gets a good line or a nice interaction.

>cutting features is better because it means less complaining
Nah I don't care. If made the game with that philosophy then 90% of it would be cut content and it'd be a linear beat em up.
If you don't like something, just don't do it. That's how the game works. There's only a few exceptions such as slowly following on a horse during a main story quest.

>>
>>736434316
It's not so much the story but the writing itself. You can have a mediocre overarching storyline but if the writing is good then most people will give it a pass. Plenty of Rockstar games have shitty storylines but at least the writing is entertaining.
>>
>>736434316
i like the story too. it's really well put together, and there isn't any subverting expectations so far so im enjoying myself. it just starts off slow.
>>
>>736434316
Story is borderline fine, it's the presentation that sucks, and the random series of quests at the start serving as a tutorial leave a poor impression. The devs should have pushed the Greymane quests earlier, like do the core Greymane quests first with andrew/naira/duane/yann, then have the bears attack the camp. This gets players invested in wanting to find Kliffs friends and makes him seem like less of a fleshy automaton.

>>
>>736437216
I don't actually mind that it goes "Okay, we've done Game of Thrones for a while, now we'll do a bit of DnD for a change."

I like that the high fantasy and the low fantasy side basically take turns. You get the minor stuff about the Greymanes and their quest for revenge and the political tension between these different countries. And then, occasionally, you get a glimpse at all the bigger picture metaphysical stuff with Alustin and White Crow that, I imagine, will eventually play a bigger part. It brings some variety.

Which makes most of the writing insufferable to slog through.

>I do no agree with that
You're in the minority. There have literally been threads dedicated entirely on the discussion of a single character from those games like picrel. Even more minor characters like Serana are more interesting than anything in CD.
>I remember maybe one or two who for being the gimmicky annoying comic relief like Moira or the Adoring Fan
And Crimson Desert doesn't even have that.
It tries to take itself so seriously it doesn't even have a character that's memorable simply for being funny.

Keep checking nobles, they occasionally carry gold bars you can pick pocket. Apparently there's loads of nobles in the animal park somewhere in demenyss, tho I think if you pickpocket them all and continue the game, the bars won't respawned - I got 1 from Hernand and haven't seen another one in days. You might want to do a round of pick pocketing, kys and repeat from checkpoint, which let's you keep your loot but resets some of the stuff.
If you ever see a travelling goblin merchant, pull a sword out and scare him, he'll drop his chest that has gold bar.
And there's alchemy and blacksmiths

Stam one seems pretty useless, because when you're regenerating stam it already regenerates so fast you're rapidly back to full. Stamina siphon is waaaaay better and only takes a single slot.

Spirit is probably decent since the only alternative to regen spirit is sitting there slowly regenning in focus, and spirit siphon probably isn't worth spending a weapon slot on

The health one is probably decent if you stack it way up, but realistically you can just press F3 to gain health, so this is more if you're doing a self-imposed no food challenge

I think they tell you that you are chosen after you do the bullshit tasks.
Then again, maybe it's that brand of asian writing in which they assume you already know you are the chosen one from a metanarrative standpoint so they streamline the whole thing. Like in movies when they show how a long time has passed with a fadeout or some scenes in which the character hammers in a single nail and then they show you a house or something.

There's not much point in leveling up Damiane and oogabooga because you can't use them in the main story. I'll upgrade Damiane after I finish the main quest and use her for exploring and side content since she can move faster and fights faster.

>so it's not impossible to randomly find her.
Not impossible, but very very hard, considering that she's a tiny target that's sitting down inside what looks like a completely abandoned tent that might as well just be map decoration.

It also doesn't help that if you encounter her during the night, when there's rain, when there's snow, if you are on the wrong side of the cliff, etc. you will likely not even see her. It's kinda crazy that they don't just have some kind of quests that guarantee that you find them, especially considering that they are tied to the fucking Sanctum system.

>That's it's not your typical Asianslop rpg?
What everyone else said but this too. In most asian games you can grind levels to beat anything, but grinding in this game mostly gives you more techniques. Gear differences are ultimately mostly cosmetic, and leveling the basic attributes won't help you much trying to beat a hard boss. Also unlike many asian RPGs, the generic encounters are fast and fun while the setpiece fights are about thinking outside the box rather than just whittling down a bigger HP bar.

The most asian thing about the game is the story. It's a jianghu story in a medieval WRPG setting. All the strongest beings are basically immortals. The main factions behind the scenes are competing sects ("cloisters") with dueling philosophies about cultivating power.

If there's one thing an MMO dev can do, it's player retention.
The game is addicting, I won't lie. The varied aspects of the game make it easy to play for long periods and keep coming back. Just when you've had your fill of exploring there's a big action segment, once you're tired of slaughtering mooks you get to fight a cool boss, once you're through with combat there's the entire abyss sitting there. Oh and I just have to check one more thing in camp, just craft this one last thing, might as well check that waterfall while I'm here, oh the research is done... yeah

Ngl sieges kinda suck. They took obvious inspiration from the Middle Earth Shadow of War sieges, except they cut out all the good parts. In Shadow of War, you could command your troops and if you entered a stronghold (which you could sabotage in advance) there'd be multiple points that you had to capture. Just having there be an enemy meter that you need to deplete is insanely boring and takes forever and troops just stand around and don't do anything once you've defeat nearby enemies.
>>
>>736442513
>Maybe there's some random side mission that brings you to her
There doesn't seem to be. I have searched everywhere and can't find anything, both in the game itself and on youtube/reddit/Steam. I found ONE comment of a guy saying that you need to "do a good deed" in Pailune but I literally went through the entire city multiple times and couldn't find anything.

It's a weird mix of every game that was popular in the past decade, all its elements kind of suck, it looks generic as hell, has the most boring quest design in recent memory, is filled with half-baked systems that are bafflingly poorly implemented, drags its feet for dozens of hours before unlocking what should be basic features, outright forgets to teach you game mechanics or teaches you wrong (as a joke), has frustratingly unintuitive or tiresome puzzles at times, which will always give you completely worthless rewards, and the story is complete gibberish where things just sort of happen with no rhyme or reason or even justification unto themselves. The writing is all over the place, the combat can be you spamming 1 ability over and over or you can be doing 10 different combos, the puzzles are really fucking weird sometimes, most bosses are complete pushovers but then you find one that's more Souls-like here and there.

On the surface it sounds like a horrible amalgamation but once you play it for a while, it's actually very entertaining despite all its flaws.

You can fucking palm these to solve the puzzle? That's hilarious. You're meant to stab the thing in the middle and turn it to move the pillars up/down.

if you're hoping for skyrim or even obshittion level modding you'll be disappointed

Some of the random ass letters and notes have strangely touching, eloquent and poignant wording. It's like a fever dream, just like the rest of the game.
>>
>>736443031
That's a really uncharitable description. For how many left field submechanics it has, they are all surprisingly well fleshed out and implemented. Most of the puzzles are surprisingly good and respect the players intelligence more than most modern games do. The world is gorgeous. And the story is quite entertaining, if a bit episodic.

I enjoy that every single zanzibart character mentioned in random item lore and background information is a real person in the world, the place they lived is a real place you can find, they're probably a boss as well, and you can likely kill them and loot their underpants too.

Now that I'm looking I'm not sure where you sell stone.
Lumber can go to Hidden grove ranch and armaments to Volwork Armory.

Looking by faction I can see all the trade icons on the map and a few are in areas I cleared but are clearly locked by quests so I'll check later.
I also don't wanna sell too much since the skill point mission is like 30k of each

I gotta be honest, getting Jian's journal at the end of chapter 7 and finally getting a somewhat comprehensive overview on what the actual relationships between these countries did a lot to actually clarify things.

>>
>>736443537
Uncharitable maybe, but is it wrong? Sure, the subsystems are fleshed out, sometimes, but are they good? Do they interlink sensibly with other systems? Can I use the camp job system to assign people to drive the trade cart from my camp cart garage, selling the trade goods I need to give to my camp requisition officer anyway? Does the dynamic market system that determines the prices of goods interface in any way with the bank's investment system to allow me to invest in specific goods? They're all just islands, hacked together because someone somewhere thought they sounded neat, but with no rhyme or reason, and no connection to any of the other systems, no matter how obvious those connections are at even a cursory inspection.

The puzzles are... okay. Some are better than others, a couple just rely on brute force and memorization over actual thought (the repeated pillar height adjustment puzzle comes to mind), some just waste your time to act out a trivially obvious solution (the statue garden puzzle), some are outright arrogant in what they demand (the "hunt down the murals" puzzle), and the rewards are universally shit, making the effort barely worth it.

The world is gorgeous, but bland as fuck. Good graphics don't really paper over art direction and design. I've seen too many rolling hills, cliffs, and mixed forests in other games to be impressed. The geometric aesthetics of the Abyss are a little better, but also nothing new (specific example: Remnant and Remnant 2, from which the idea of "futuristic floating world between worlds with a geometric/cubist grey aesthetic" seems almost directly lifted).
>>
>>736444001
The game has the worst pacing I've ever seen in my entire life. I don't know what the fuck they were thinking with half the quests. And I say that as someone who likes it a lot (mostly).

the necklace i think clears the weather, so if it's raining or cloudy it makes clear sky, has 2 or something in game hours cooldown
and when you boot the game cooldowns are always at the beginning, it doesn't recharge when you are not playing, so you will have to wait
i just completed that quest myself

>>
>>736444001
Yeah, I dunno, man.

But I am pretty sure that Chapter 5, which has you go to Demeniss when it's still hostile territory, establishes a bunch of stuff it won't circle back to until two chapters later and locks out Damiane for a while was probably meant to come after what's now Chapter 7 originally and probably wasn't moved to Chapter 5 until very shortly before release. Its placement in the story is so... arbitrary.

I forget where I read it but apparently in the past, Hernand was once a kingdom but reverted to the status of a duchy under Demenissian pressure. So the whole scheme to subjugate Hernand was a repeat of historical attempts. And the "alliance" between the two countries was therefore more of a protectorate. Which explains how the invasion wasn't just some act of perfidy where they backstabbed Hernand, but more like a way to convert hegemony into outright annexation.

The setting is very well thought-out and interconnected, but all the information that tells you so is obscure background text you find 90 hours in. I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing that they backloaded it so much

>and the rewards are universally shit, making the effort barely worth it.

They should really patch in better rewards especially when some of the best armors in the game are just you checking behind every waterfall you come across.
>>
>>736444534
That might be it actually.
>>
>>736444483
I think at some point late in development, they decided you should be able to try out Damiane early. So they shoehorned her in at like chapter 3 but with next to no storyline. Even in the first cutscene where she appears, she has no voice lines. Her story pretty much only begins as soon as she fucks off.

There's no such thing as "best armor in the game" Your first plate set bought from a vendor can be upgraded to have the same amount of armor as boss plate

The abyss is a representation of rationality and logic. It's made out of mathematical geometry, which is classical platonism.

The islands themselves carry pieces of the local culture around, or pieces of certain ideas such as anger and resentment in the crow nest's case. This is the ratonal thought. The idea. There is logic there, but it's chaotic.
Logic itself is represented by semiconductor technology, the electricity that powers it, cold blue. A machine-like, uncaring and cold logic, useless without guidance.

Rational thought when applied without limit ends up being evil. Logic without underlying philosophy is meaningless.
In order to clear the game, you must come to terms with THE REALITY, which is that fate trumps all.
Logic, rationality, philosophy must kneel in front of the one true god. And that god is belevolent, good, and caring. For the world is fated to not fall into ruin by those who follow a sinful way of living, but to be saved by the one who does good by his fellow man.

Technically, there's certain plate armors that have more armor than anything else, but overall it's pretty negligible, and then there's also the "BiS" combinations of certain gear that will get you to 15 attack speed, 15 crit, 15 movement speed, and then perhaps whatever resistance you need at the moment.

Did some quick testing after maxing pic related. It took about 400k to max out the one in Hernand from level 30 ish. I'm guessing it's around 500k to max it out from 0-100. Excess donations don't seem to do anything.
