Not really. There's like maybe 3 or 4 fights were the animation budget was beefed up out of the 28 episodes. So a majority of your time is spent watching fantasy SoL. That's why people like it.

I really would like to see a fantasy series that puts a Dwarf in the role of the long-lived species that addresses the passage of time. These fantasy settings always make it a point that Dwarves have comparably long lives compared to Elves, but never explore what they're like or how they impact, and are impacted by short-lived species. I figure something with a Dwarf would also be a little more fun and a little less introspective.

Tensei Shite High Elf does it a little bit, but that series doesn't really spend a lot of time dwelling on plot beats that aren't about how much the protag misses his dead human girlfriend.

the problem with isekai is that they're made for the mmo audience
and the show's gimmicks and writing hinges on that familiarity
its why they usually center around the characters manipulating some kind of game mechanic or have hax because they know more than the npcs

if you aren't into mmos this is grating to watch, but i think people who get their opinions from video essays have lost the plot and misunderstand that some shit just isn't made for them

I played mmos as a kid, Earth and Beyond and later Star Wars galaxies. .//hack was amazing, explored ethical questions, forced isekai, some game mechanics/fights. I'm disappointed by all the Isekai shit nowadays, its all power fantasy slop. The only one that did it right was the sword art online abridged series, the regular anime seemed to try to be as unpalatable and shit as possible.
