Continuation of Zero.
Every appearance the Star Fox team has had since Zero has been based on their appearances from Zero.
Even in the Mario Galaxy movie, Fox's design primarily derives from Zero. And the montage with the crew has their Zero designs, too.
Plus, it would probably be easier to continue a story from 2016 game than continue from a 2006 game.

I'm not even sure if Nintendo views Zero as its own continuity. I don't remember them ever calling the game a reboot, but I do remember the director stating he wanted to use Krystal in the sequel. I don't think Nintendo has the same relationship with continuity that the fans do, so the fact that Andross was developing bioweapons in 64, but hostile robots in Zero really matters to Nintendo because at the end of the day he's still a terrorist trying to take over the Lylat System.

I want a hubworld RPG where you take on various contracts. We can have rail shooter segments, racing levels, on foot shooter levels, and even some management mechanic where you maintain and build out Star Fox as a mercenary company. The main story would have you fighting in a campaign against andross, but there would be side missions for different characters.

I'd personally love an arwing builder a la kh3's gummi system, if not just making the onrail segments similar.
It probably wouldn't be anyones favorite but I'd like onfoot party segments as well if for the novelty of giving everyone a "class"/preferred weapon type, I think that would add to the characters.
Assault did similar with proficiences like Fox was good overall, Falco had the best Arwing, Slippy was best on Landmaster, Krystal had bad hp but got shields, Wolf had equal stats to Fox but was faster.
Similarly the ability to recruit Star Wolf permanently...on a New Game+ mode.
Added replayabilty and 3(4, if we add Pigma or an Andross kid) new party members for onfooting and new side missions.
