It is of no doubt that the most bullshit game mechanic in the history of "Gaming" is the "Ki Pulse" in the Nioh series. It's not optional. If you run out of Ki, you're donezo, bozo.

For the uninitiated, after every attack combo you MUST press R1 at the right time to regain lost stamina. The problem? Each pulse has a different timing across weapon types and stances, making it impossible to memorize in a timely manner.

And that is the core problem with Nioh. It does not respect your time. I can't bang out a level on the toilet with my Steam Deck at work. One hour bathroom breaks are looked down upon in polite society.

This is the ultimate indictment of Nioh. A vulgar game for the NEET dregs with no respect for time itself.

The bums lost. Every moment you waste by "Ki Pulsing" is a moment solidifying your fate as a part of the inevitable technofeudalist underclass.

Get a real job. Save your future and play Tetris, Solitaire, Balatro, or Minesweeper in your downtime instead. That is far more useful and mentally stimulating than spamming R1 and hoping the input connects at the right millisecond. KiCuck slave behavior.

Ki pulse is one of the best things about this game. The loot, the yokai shift, the blacksmith shit, the soul cores are slop mechanics though

It's so you don't block immediately after attacking.
>>

It has nothing to do with that.

Why implement time-wasting busywork instead of being able to do something that's actually useful and fun, like immediately blocking or dodging?

There should have been an auto-Ki Pulse setting. It would be much more respectful to the preferences of each individual player.

Imagine if you had to tap R1 at the right moment after switching in and out of stealth mode in MGS, or else you get detected. It would be bullshit game design. Yet MGS doesn't have that problem, because it's a good game by a great game designer.
>>
The main goal imo is to get the player to use flux and flux 2, which will actually allow the player to never run out of Ki while relentlessly attacking and always be able to use the most appropraite attack string and skill for the situation.

Besides, nioh is fully playable and beatable without ever ki pulsing or fluxing. Just getting the "ki pulse on dodge" mechanic and playing like dark souls will get the job done if youre allergic to action games.
>>
>>736442441
It's Dark Souls stamina but you actually have a way to get some. There's a bunch of sparkles shooting out of the guy that show the right timing for the ki pulse.

Why bother with blocking or dodging at all? Those are dishonest mechanics. If the goal of the game is to defeat the enemy, then why would you get in the way of doing that by making me waste time by dodging? It's the definition of dishonest gameplay. If you hit an enemy, you should be able to keep hitting it until it dies, no one wants to wait their turn in a fucking game, turn base games died decades ago.

Ki Pulsing was such a mistake that they made it optional and redundant with the superior Ninja Mode in Nioh 3. The only context where Ki Pulse would make sense is if there was a separate Onmyo Mage mode.

Samurai shouldn't have Shinto magic abilities, it's utter nonsense. I just sent a strongly worded E-mail to Team Ninja asking to rectify this further in an update for Nioh 3

>tell us a story
I once "met" Hideo Kojima at a highly exclusive ping pong club in NYC.
He was invited by Nicolas Refn, while I was brought in as a guest by my coworker. I tried speaking to him, but he pretended not to understand English.

Refn quickly intervened by blocking off the space between him and I, asking for my opinions on Gundam and "Pop Tart films" of the "Vague Novel" era. It was at this moment that I told him I had no idea what he meant by that, which made him well up in anger to the point of tears.

Sensing trouble and visible unease from the veteran game designer behind him, I removed myself from the situation. A security guard watched my every move beyond that.

William has magic ghost friends who will set his sword on fire and make him invincible. The guy in 2 is part demon. Magic shit is reasonable.

>Samurai shouldn't have Shinto magic abilities
Ki Pulse is there to represent the samurai catching his breath and returning to a neutral fighting stance, it has nothing to do with magic

Foolish
The Ki Pulse is the ultimate tool for which you, the player, respect your own time.
Without the Ki Pulse, you would simply lose all of that stamina and have to bide your time, waiting for all of it to recover at a rate you would see in virtually every other game with a stamina bar.
With the Ki Pulse, you can perform many consecutive combat feats, then near-instantly recover almost all of that stamina, only a fraction of it truly consumed.

The Ki Pulse is the ultimate indictment of an undisciplined player, one who wastes his own time by not seeing the value of a simple efficiency system.

Filtered. There's a lot to criticize in Nioh, but ki pulsing is not one of those things.

Wow, great game design. I can't wait for Nioh 4 where there will be a Bladder Meter and you have to take a piss every now and then to avoid a 15% Ki penalty because your full bladder compresses the root chakra.

That's exactly how it works because the inputs are randomly delayed if you use two at once, never mind three or more.

The game is coded in the same way that South African power plants are repaired, with Rube Goldberg machines and broken dreams.
You're at the mercy of a digital ball rolling down a ramp, and you better hope to God that it doesn't miss the domino line at the end.

Don't get catty with me. You shouldn't have to unlock alternative gimmick workarounds to bypass the core broken gimmick. It's bad game design. This isn't up for further debate. The indictment has been written and handed down.

All that's left is for anons to quit coping and accept the flaws in their favorite game. There's no shame in that; it's rather admirable.

based. i love the ki pulse, and you cqn even ki pulse by dodging and i thought there was a special effect for ki pulse on timely guard. the spear becomes a great weapon when you get the spear flourish attack on ki pulse and get free hp/ki damage for each ki pulse.

Stance switching and flux is one of the most fun parts of this game by far. Lets you play really aggressively
