I dont really get why VR isn't more popular.
With pcvr you can play an incredible amount of non native games, with 6dof and motion controls.
Elder scrolls games, re games, fallout nv ect.
Its objectively 1000x more immersive than flatscreen when it works.
For real though why hasn't vr blown up on pc?
Pc enthusiasts love to showcase cool mods, and vr is at the forefront of that with people like praydog in the community.
Is it to expensive or to technical to set up for the average normie?
>>
It's a niche and that's okay, I don't want normalfags to ruin it
Pavlov and Contractors games remind me of old Xbox 360 lobbies
>>
Most people dont want to wear box on their face to play a videogame. Many people cant even play regular fps games because it makes them motion sick, let alone a full vr environment. It will never approach mainstream until the technology makes big improvements
>>
>>736443759
I think vr is a better medium for immersive singleplayer games that are slower paces but im glad the mp fps community has stuff like forefront that hasn't really been ruined by ecelebs and grifters yet. Every person I've encountered in forefront is a squeaker though
>>
>>736443962
Besides old people who gets motion sickness with 2d? I dont think its that common.

Try out Underdogs if you haven't yet it's awesome if you can handle a lot of british ghetto slang
>>
>>736443683
I thought VR was insane and a glimpse into the future but it sort of fucked with my brain. I’d feel depersonalization and shit. I also wanted more FOV and clarity. But the last headset I used was the rift S

Brute ancient dungeon is far better than eternity its not funny
>>
>>736443683
because flailing your arms around to swing swords is not immersive or engaging

>>Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow
Opinion fucking discarded

Reasons VR isn't adopted are costs, space requirements and comfort, in that order.
VR is a gimmick, like all gimmicks it's nice to use every now and then for a little fun but that's it.

Oh shit I actually forgot to remove that one.
Was anticipating it but the reviews told the truth.
Never actually bought it.

blade and sorcery and asgards wrath have the only decent feeling melee combat
and gorn i guess but it also has wacky rubber maces and shit so it feels less like real melee

You've never played VR and it shows

I play gzdoom vr, finished sunlust recently on UV

If you're comparing VR motion controls to the Wii you really have nothing of value to add to this thread

Compound is better than doom for the vr medium

i like into the radius but i kind of wish i was fighting real people instead of shadow niggas
>>
vr headsets unironically give you a norwood number within about a year
>>
>>736445748
i hate how everyone calls it vr stalker
nothing will ever compare to the real game
and im convinced that a VR mod for stalker is entirely possible, people just havent tried yet
hell they released a multiplayer mod for it just now
>>
>>736444474
But pressing a button is?
>>
>>736445952
at least stalker 2 has a vr mod but i feel like 1s engine is too janky it would probably take some autistic slavic years to get it working
>>
>>736445952
Apparently it's pretty much impossible to add VR support to the Xray Engine because it's just about held together as it is
>>
>>736444474
you know you dont HAVE to flop the sword around unrealistically like youre some cynical fat slob. you can just swing your arms as though you're really holding the sword and then you get good visual feedback and it feels cool.
>>
>>736445887
I'm already norwood 3. Am i safe to use vr headset?
>>
>>736446221
some games like skyrim vr you can even change some ini files so that waggling the sword wont do dick because there is a swing cooldown
i try to limit myself like in re4vr i autistically do leons knife animation to slow my swings down
>>
>>736443683
It's cool but I like the gameplay of 2D games more than 3D games.
>>
>>736443683
Because vr as it is now is shit that doesn't come close to the appeal of it. Nobody is going to care until it massively miniaturizes and becomes far more immersive, or when full dive becomes possible.
>>
I kind of hate games that don't have all the realistic gun stuff. Don't most of these ports just have a reload button?
>>
if your vr shooter does not have a virtual gunstock i SHANT be purchasing
>>
>>736443683
>FPS game :(
>FPS game with motion controls :O
You're onions.
>>
>>736446504
All my enjoyment of light brigade went of the window because of this
>>
>>736446432
Yeah, they're glorified Wii games. There's some retards on the Flat2VR discord who think manual reloading (you know, the actual VR part of VR) sucks so they refuse to add it to their mods. So you just get a glorified Wii game with stereoscopic 3D
>>
>>736446684
i have a real gunstock but i cant be assed to constantly detach the magnets to reload and then fumble around to reconnect
using a shotgun with the movable front grip is pretty cool though no gonna lie
>>
>>736446317
I can't wait to try skyrim vr eventually. I limit myself too, I even do that in 2d games if I don't like the animation of something. man I need to setup my psvr2 and try RE4vr.
>>
>>736446587
>anon hasn't used the rear bumper of a car as a stabilizer while shooting a sniper rifle
I swear being anti VR should be considered a mental illness
>>
>>736446809
i dont have psvr but atleast the pc port got a VR mod now
>>
>>736446809
I played Skyrim blind in VR. The Dark Brotherhood intro quest is beyond kino. And just riding around at night during a storm, literally nothing more comfy in all of vidya
>>
>>736447024
there is something special about going into a dark cave and grabbing your torch off of your belt
VRIK elevates skyrim to top 5 VR games
>>
>>736446771
aww I always wanted a gunstock to play immersive stuff
what game do you think worked the best with your stock especially for pump action goodness?
>>
>>736447148
zero caliber probably
good variety of guns
reloading itself isnt too bad but using a bolt rifle can be kind of cumbersome lots of reattaching the controller to the stock blind
im sure if you used it everyday it would become second nature but i flip between melee and shooters too much to get it muscle memorized

i literally had to stop VR entirely because it was taking the hair off the front of my scalp. luckily it grew back but whew fuck that. anything with straps that go over your head (quest) or sit in your hairline (WMR shit) should be avoided.

Halo VR is the fucking bees knees btw

most are too retarded to get into modding or using simple utility tools like UEVR to force flats into VR.

There is also the ongoing rift that a lot of confusion arises around the definition of VR. for the likes of me the goggles themselves are where the magic comes. To be inside the game world instead of staring it through a tiny little window. For controls I prefer traditional mouse and keyboard as they give unparalleled control over movement and aiming speed. Like try playing something like Brutal Doom with the motion controls the VR source ports try to implement.

For a subset VR means motion controls and having the hands are an absolute must. This includes most developers and in practice implementing that means dramatic shift in gameplay balance and speed to accommodate with the player waffling about. So they all nope out of it instead of making rather simple "run it on the HMD" patches. Like for example elite dangerous VR version is bought as a example. Well what most don't know is that it was implemented by a single guy who was a VR enthusiast working in the company. When he left the VR support was dropped yet it works perfectly with the ship mechanics to this day

tl/dr they really over stretched with trying to force motion controls straight out of the gate. Instead of building it up as an accessory to PC and consoles as a pure upgrade to traditional monitors. Motion controls should have been the next step accessory after establishing a clear use case
>>
>>736443683
It has no appeal to me. A screen is fine. VR controls are worse than a keyboard+mouse to me.

>Its objectively 1000x more immersive than flatscreen when it works.
The general audience doesn't care about immersion. They care about showing of their Roblox and Fortnite skins.
>Is it to expensive or to technical to set up for the average normie?
Yes.

I would love to play around in VR, but I'm not throwing $650(fancy cables and shit for PCVR not included) on a Quest 3 just to experiment and replay Morrowind for the 10th time.

he is right. there is not feedback of either the weight of the sword or cutting into objects. You just sort of flail it around until it pierces the target.

Two handed weapons are even better example. IRL you have four points of contact to stabilize the weapon. two arms, the cheek and the shoulder. With motion controls you get only two. The other ones only with a special stock attachment to the sticks

IMO motion controls themselves are really half assed implementation right now. In practice its a traditional controller spliced into two that the HMD tracks via combo of its in built cameras and beacons on the stick. VR gloves with haptic feedback is the place where 6dof starts taking shape. So you actually get resistance from pressing against objects. pic related

this any good? looks very Thief 4-ish. Would rather find a way to make the original dark engine run in some 3d runtime
>>
>>736447289
It's really that bad, huh. I've always wanted to give vr a try but I rent a tiny shitbox studio apartment so I imagine I couldn't get full enjoyment out of vr if I had only a wardrobe of space to move around in.
>>
>>736443683
I had an HTC Vive and moved onto a Valve Index. I've tried a wide variety of VR games. I do enjoy the VR stuff I have played, but I strangely find it not very immersive most of the time. I was very immersed in games like Half-Life: Alyx and Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners. But most other games I've ever tried, or mods to add 6dof to native PC games just feel like nothing to me. Somehow it strangely feels even more gamey to me than just keyboard and mouse or controller. I think games just need more reasons to have the 6dof. Alyx and Saints and Sinners both offered me a looting experience. I'd find myself crouching and laying down just to get vision under a desk or in some rubble to find things to scavenge. If a VR game is too simple with the need to move around, I can get bored fairly quickly. The depth perception and interactions can be nice, but I feel like I need every game to require more out of my real life physical movement for me to truly enjoy it long term.

It has decent level design but absolutely mediocre graphics and dumbfuck AI
