It actually started with Heart Gold. I was really frustrated when I was playing that game seeing things which were changed but really didn't need to be changed or benefit from being changed, while other much more important and flawed things were not changed to improve on them. Never did finish that game.Afterwards, Black and White come out and I had mixed feelings about them. Between that and what Platinum, Emerald, and Crystal trained me to expect I chose not to buy a copy and to wait for the third version. Then they released sequels, instead, so I didn't buy any of those games. XY would later come out and I was initially warmer on it than the previous generation, but I didn't have a 3DS or any desire to get one, and Pokemon was no longer big enough with me for it to be a system seller.

I honestly enjoyed gen 6 a lot more than I should've maybe it was the dex variety and trainer customization in that game. Although USUM really dealt a blow to my interest in the series and the switch games pretty much killed my interest in the mainline games, SWSH was ""okay"" and I never bothered to finish SV. I did end up buying and playing Legends ZA since I never tried Legends Arceus and I wanted to give the new battle style a try but the real time battling felt so awkward, it also didn't help that navigating trough the wild zones was a pain in the higher level ones due to the constant slew of alpha pokemon sniping you with earth power or some other shit. Overall though I still really do love the classic formula since I've been having a great time getting into the romhacks and fangames so if Winds and Waves ends up being SV2 electric boogaloo I have those to fall back on.
